It's gonna officially be a draw which will enable Hayama to save face and also Souma to progress. But unofficially Hayama will concede to Souma and vow to beat him next time.

Hayama did give his best, technically he was perfect, it's just his food lacked heart. Which is ironic given that central is dead-set on removing that intangible from cuisine worldwide while even the alumni say it's a key factor of gourmet food. Remember Souma lost to Hayama before because his food lacked heart/himself.
Amur Cork Honey seems like one of those snobby ingredients that at the beginning of the manga, the antagonist would use to prove their superiority.
I guess this is meant to show growth, emphasize how much effort Soma put into the dish, but it threw me off at first that Soma didn't use run of the mill honey. Though it was brought up why the honey is specifically enhanced due to its mellowness instead of it just being a "better" ingredient. Plus the way Soma got to that ingredient, through trying tons of environmental ingredients and testing them, is very much in Soma's character.

Agreed with the above. This all seems to fit the shonen format to a tee, and allows Hayama to stay a viable rival in the future without him having to fall into the protagonist beat him and now he can't catch up trope (though I guess that can still happen).

The way that this is framed, makes it seem like.. the polaris team is going to survive. Even the ambiguos gay duo?
I mean, only Alice and Ryu were kind of safe, but if the expulsions were going to be more than these, the authors would have shown the full "carnage".
And Eishi himself crushed Isami. I tought that it could be one of the new ones, but not even a close match with them.

Well if these people are actually expelled and stay expelled for now it could actually add tension. On the other hand, if all the Polaris members actually survive but these people were taken out I have to question how the seemingly lesser cooks were able to make it.
Overall I liked the chapter and the Jun slap was funny and heartwarming, even if the whole plot line is silly.
Jun's slap was the best thing to have happened in these few chapters.

Glad it was those three. Wouldn't have cared if it was any of the Polar Star Dorm (and still don't care about the Aldine bro) but Hisako and Nikumi are characters I'm invested in. But a fake out can still happen in a few chapters so we'll see.
Shame the ending to this arc was bittersweet. The emotions didn't override the logic flaws. Still a solid chapter though.

Finally that match ended, it took too long, the final result was too obvious and the whole judging a meal again after a verdict was already made is still incredibly stupid and gives a bad precedent.
Still, as someone who liked Hayama, I think it was a satisfying end. He got defeated, but while still taking the match serious didnt do his absolute best and still was very close to winning. He didnt make any bullshit excuses and downright accepted Soma as the clear winner. But in the end, if both were going 100% I would still firmly see Hayama as better cook.
I wonder about his future role. Hopefully as someone who isnt so snooty and haughty anymore, but still has his pride and heighened self esteem. In this regard, I dont like him moving into the Polaris Dorm, he should keep his distance. It should be something like Ryu or Alice; friendly with Soma and his fan club but still a distinctive separate faction.
So, now lets move on to the actually interesting stuff of this arc and the matches against the Elite10. Some of the lesser main characters (and probably the rest of the fodder next chapter) being revealed defeated, leaves us with the Rindo fight and whoever Ryu and Alice are fighting. I really really hope we will see these two (or three?) matches in full, or at least have more then one chapter on each fight. I'm kinda hyped for them tbh.
At the end the usual criticism:
-Why the hell are cooperating Alice dad and Gin with the whole Azami farce? Why do they not protest the way the academy has changed?
-Again, what exactly is the rationale, that some random student like the Aldini bro should be able to defeat the very best cook in the academy in a direct match or he will get expelled?
