Isn't My Hero Academia doing it the same right now?
No, the exam in My Hero Academia is only for provisional hero licenses, they won't be expelled if they fail.

It'd be nice for some to fail just so the stakes of expulsion are real. Jewels generation or not, there's no drama or tension if the main characters have plot armor from expulsion. Plus, how would they manage to justify all the first years beating the Elite 10 in competitions?
That's been my one big problem from the start of the series, which is how they have portrayed the school and how intense it is supposed to be. It's not enough to just allow random people who have no names or characterizations to be shown to fail. It was fine when they first got to the school to do that, but as the stakes get bigger we need to see failure from someone that "matters". The big problem is most things they has failure equal expulsion, and with the school being what it is people are considered failures and can never reach the top. The Autumn elections worked because someone could lose and it wouldn't mean the end of the line. In this if someone loses it's being expelled, so the author has made it so they can't fail. Top that with having them face the top 10 already, it's going to be a hard pill to swallow.
I kinda wish more than half of polar star failed out. The girls besides Megumi haven't really done anything of note. Same with the filler guys. They all have their specialities but they haven't accomplished anything other than managing to just barely pass and occasionally being the catalyst for Souma or Megumi to have an epiphany.
The dorm head keeps saying that Polar Star shall shine bright again but that's basically only because of 2 sometimes 3 (naked apron).

I think this stuff shows just how awful the Azami arc has been. The stakes are so high and the odds so skewed that both victory and defeat seem ridiculous.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
I guess Franky's right that this was a problem throughout the series, but with Azami trying specifically to crush them, it gets more ridiculous.
I'm really glad how Oda handle his Worst Generation. He established they are key players but they are still far behind from the yonkou.
To be fair, Soma and co are the top 16 of the first year (except for those 2 dude). There also roughly around 70+ 2nd years. So, Soma & co would easily make it into the 2nd year. I think the expulsion will only start when they reach the 3rd year.
My biggest problem with the rebel vs E.10 is that win/lose, it will be the Shinomiya shokugeki again. The rebel win- their opponent screw up or 2vs 1 helped them. I don't believe the E.10 can be that weak. Heck, Eizan lose because he kinda screw up!The rebel lose- somebody come to save them.
It's not possible for all the rebels to win…
We're still in the third stage and we're up against the E.10.
So, what will happen to the next challenge? Who are the rebel going up against?
The fact is most of the fight will be offscreened just make it worse.
We're going against the E.10, the best chefs in the school hyped up since the beginning of the series...but there's absolutely no tension whatsoever...
the final confrontation of this arc should just be Soma and Azami just getting into an actual fist fight in a minimall parking lot
that'd be pretty vindicating, imo
I will say the page of Hayama and Soma fighting looks awesome. And the Judges are fun IMO. Confirmed that Alice has the best parents and the twin girls just openly judging the guys by their appearance got a laugh out of me.
But back to the issue, there's only so much "pass or be expelled" shenanigans that can occur. We already know Soma has plot armor. That's just how it goes. It': the rest of the cast that either needs to go down or step up with more screen time.
As kinda mentioned, it'd be more meaningful if we were invested in the Polar Dtar members more by giving them more individual screen time. It just hasn't happened, especially as of late it's been Soma'a story (and Erina's).
For the most part when it comes to the personal stories and battles the manga still delivers pretty well. Yeah, the stuff with Hayama is a bit silly, but I still like the guy and feel for him, and despite the silliness of Azami's plan I still overall liked how much he effect Erina and how she has developed overall. This cooking battle will be satisfying and I have no doubt about that, but the problem comes down to the other characters who will be glanced over at best. At most we'll probably have Rindou give an expression of surprise where she is surprised how much better Takumi and Megumi are than she expected and be expected to be okay with that. Some of these characters have been built up, and unfortunately the most we have gotten since the Autumn Elections has been mention of them doing stuff that supposed to be impressive, but not showing it. This is very frustrating especially with Takumi being Soma's rival early on and Megumi being the second protagonist who is supposed to get the most development in the long run.
If I don't get to see more from some of the other characters I'm going to have a harder time staying invested because that's what really got me in the first place, these characters with different styles that were going to improve along side Soma.

That is pretty on point.

To be honest I have been following the series on and off. Sometimes I read the weekly releases, other I don't. Which affects my standing on the series. However, like it has been mentioned, the current confrontation should be, at worst, way out of the league of everyone in their first year, except Souma. The tension is at an all time low. My only guess is that the series is ending after this arc. Some of the first years will be expelled, however, the climax against Azami will be maybe 2 arcs from the current one? Which gives enough time to be: OH NO THEY LOST!, and in a year be, oh, they took back the school…the end? shrugs
Not one single character from the dorm or the main cast has failed and been expelled. Not. A. Single. One.
I agree with everything that has been said. We need some tension, we need some drama.
Pick your poison.

as expected, Doujima is best waifu
I laughed pretty hard at that last page, Dojima showing everyone who the sexiest truly is. Also Alice was spared which I thought either she would've been complaining about not being a part of it, or would've been the one spearheading the whole thing.
Catched up with the latest chapter and just in time for more Rindou focus. Nice.
Still, I had speculated in my last post about the nature of the coming fights against the E10 and was told to wait for further info. Thats why its funny that everyone now firmly believes that its victory against an E10 member or expulsion. Sure, it has been heavily implied and many characters have been saying that the rebels might get expulsed if they lose, but it was never officially declared.
And it still makes no sense: How the hell can they justify, that some select first year students have to be able to defeat someone from the Elite10 or they will be kicked out? Obviously, most of the Azami storylines were pretty retarded, but this takes the cake.
And how can Dojima or that Nakiri judge just stand calmy by, not giving a fuck? They treat it as some fun game where the rising stars of the new generation can face the most elite students of the school, but without any concern for the consequences. Its strange and maybe they knew that there are other victory conditions then outright winning the cooking contest.
Probably next chapter the matches will start and maybe we will given the clear conditions spelled out at the beginning.
For the matches themself:
Soma vs Hayama: Its a shame, I loved their first fights and was really looking forward to their revanche, which should have been one of the highlights of the story, but certainly not under these circumstances and certainly not with the match pretty much confirmed from the beginning as won by Soma. There is no tension in that match whatsoever and thats horrible.
Italian guy/Megumi vs Rindou: That matchup is strange. Rindou has been hyped as all hell and we now see her cooking for the first time. At the same time, the other two seriously need some victories and focus, and while I have no doubt that they will lose it, making it a close match or impressing Rindou just takes away from her hype.
In the end probably its like many have speculated, she will have her fun and lose the match on purpose.
Alice/Ryu: Its still not clear if they fight together against one opponent or against two, though probably together. I think Alice needs even more then the two above a victory, because she should be on the same level as the 3 Tournament Finalists and taking down an E10 might bring her back into focus powerwise. For Ryu it could go either way, he already had his long battle and he could be used to hype up someone from the E10. If he fights together with Alice I think both will win it. The two will probably go against one of the two new members or Eizan (who should be long ago kicked out and maybe his defeat here will be the last straw)
The other rebels will all fail. There is no way, that they even have a tiny chance. Of course wether they get expelled or not is unknown. Even if kicked out; I could imagine (hopefully!!!!) that we move into the end of the Azami arc soon and after his defeat the unjustly kicked out people will return (maybe in some sort of right-to-return/second chance cooking match)
Lastly, I agree with the people who have expressed their worry, that once again only Soma will get proper focus and that we wont see much of the rest of the matches. The next chapters should show in which direction it goes, because the conclusion of Soma vs Hayama is probably the highlight, so either we see more focus on the other fights before it or just the end results afterwards.
I feel like Doujima made a wrong turn on his way to another manga, like say Grappler Baki, but I'm sure glad he's in this one.
That omake was glorious
Funny omake chapter, fanservice but not thrown in your face, and this guy did straight up hentai before.
You can learn something Fairy Tail.
! Soma is serving first. Is he screwed ?
!
Those girls look like they want Souma's meat real bad
! Soma is serving first. Is he screwed ?
!
Ryo served first when he competed against Megumi in the Autumn contest and won, so not necessarily.
it's about fucking time they referenced using fonds in sauces, my god
Reminds me of Kuma Yuma Arashi.
Oh no Souma is serving first. He's going to be expelled now and Rindou is going to take over the series now as his long lost sister.
People can shut the hell up about this manga lacking tension.
It definitely mismanages tension. Again, when the stakes are this high, they basically have no weight. Are we supposed to believe that Soma is really going to be expelled? Or that even if he is expelled, that this will have a profound impact on the story?
I am having the impression that most of you wanna see the world burn.
None of us wanted to see the Azami arc happen.
Come on show us what's going down with the other rebels. Since Souma obviously winning this match.
None of us wanted to see the Azami arc happen.
I don't know, I kinda like the idea of a series revolving around a guy with an rational hatred of inefficiency and irrational hatred of buildings
@Purple:

But he keeps getting held back by this weird story about children chefs with a poor understanding of power structures.
Again, I really just want Souma and Azami to duke it out in a 7-11 or something at the end of this arc
The theme of the match? Slurpees
These matches are just building up the stakes. Azami is going to announce in the next arc "The killing meals tournament." If you lose you die and if none of the Rebels win he's going to blow up the school.
Let Souma loss and go back to Yukihira kitchen.I am fed up with this Hayama hype…
@Purple:

I would take back every shit thing I've said about this manga if the final fight was a Slurpee off.
None of us wanted to see the Azami arc happen.
Still waiting for that butterfly transformation myself.
Azami turned soma from a fun sports/harem manga where the sport was EXTREME cooking, into a artificially heightened stakes series.
Whenever he gets into the plot, things become "not entretaining serious"
Besides, an evil school director, the series didn't need a true villian, but now that it has one, it can't outlive it, as… Who can go after him? Is like if the final "villian" of sket dance showed up early, someone constantly trying and failing to close the school groups would get tyring too fast.
I wanted to give the series the benefit of the doubt, and whenever he's not around its still a good series, hell even his antics are entertaining, but leave the aftertaste of "this is bullshit"
It has been 54 chapters since Azami showed up & we are 1 year+ into this arc. It's definitely going to be longer than the AE arc.
It's kinda funny. At the beginning, most of us were ok with Azami. But as the arc progress, some of us start to get fed up with his bullshit policy and feel cynical about the arc. While some defended him & the arc with the "wait & see" argument. At this point, I think most of us just completely given up on Azami. Even the hardcore fans in reddit are fed up with Central's bullshit.
Azami's main motive for doing all this is because he wanted to exact revenge for his beloved senpai…
As for the chapter, Soma is winning this.duh.
Several arcs of Azami later, when Soma finally stops his plan to turn all food in the universe into nutrient pills as his revenge against bad cooking by beating the food conversion laser/ultimate robot chef in a shokugeki, and Azami is ejected into the vacuum of space from his fortress on the moon, everything goes black, and Soma wakes up in a high tech simulation pod. It prints out a B+, his grade on the 1st year midterms he just took. Then Senzaemon, still actually the headmaster of the school, tears off the print out, and shakes his head. "Tsk tsk tsk, couldn't ace the Azami test, eh? I guess you aren't fit to be a real chef, after all." Soma gets expelled and the series ends.

I'd rate that ending a 5/7.
How does he strip like that?
http://mangastream.com/r/shokugeki_no_souma/187/3732/1
Shokugeki no Soma is a manga where「Alice」has the best dad
This chapter made me insanely hungry. I need some juicy fried meat stat.
I've picked up this manga as a time waster for my VGM listening. Does pretty much every girl eventually want Soma's wang?
Hm, the stripping was not too extensive (besides the girls who like usually go all the way), there is a lot of room to lose more clothes.
This and that Souma just made the best with the meat at hand, finding the exact perfect line between savour and stinkyness (whatever the hell that means, even with all the chapters and explanation I have no idea. Is he supressing the bad odour, is he making it smell good somehow?) but not taking the next step, just gives me hope, that somehow Hariyama might still have a chance.
Because I though that was exactly why he lost in the final against him, by not making it a speciality. If you are a good enough cook everyone would come up with the meal that Soma just made. Its not like he made something really original, that made the bear meat stand out, like he did during the Tournament matches.

Most of them, yes.

Yes it has that typical japanese shitty harem trait, and females losing their clothes and having orgasm's is pretty common, and becomes annoying really fast. But it's still fun…... most of the time.

That's the general vibe I got. Yeah, its fun I guess. So many food orgasms…...
