The sauces won't change anything. I bet the writer will pull a Naruto and be like "hey I like Hayama more than Soma, lets make Hayama the main protagonist and re-title the manga Shokugeki no Hayama."

But yeah the author seems to favor Hayama. Some of the things Hayama has been used for plot wise I thought would have been Takumi's parts.

Didn't Soma use sauce against Hayama in the Autumn election and still lose. I hope this isn't just some bullshit suspense device that amounts to nothing but Soma losing (again).

Hahahaha wow this "Hayama won but let us first taste this food with the sauce that has been here but wasn't brought up because SUSPENSE" plot device might be one of the most laughable way to drag out a match in this series. This chapter could have easily covered the sauce part but i guess the author wanted to shove in those filler flashbacks that we as the audience already knew from few chapters ago.

At least the fight panels are still top notch. It'd be awesome for the artist (forgot the name at the moment) to move on to a true battle manga afterwards.

Since the bear theme was introduced, it has been stressed pretty much every chapter that the most important thing is to neutralize the gaminess of the meat. It is the basic minimum requirement to even participate in this match. So it is kind of obvious the judges would first taste the meat alone despite the sauce being on the plate from the start.

I hope the guy does a yakuza series after Soma with sick brawling fights. I look at half his character designs in Soma and they kind of fit right in. Heck I'm half convinced that Tootsuki is only a front for money laundering and drug cooking for the criminal underworld :ninja: explaining how they're so obscenely rich beyond any reason as well as the top of Tootsuki being fucking buff as hell. tinfoil hat

Yes but they should only be tasting one contenstant's dish at a time instead of moving on them going back. It's fine to test a dish without the extras then combine additional components to get the full effect. If the challenge was to create a fried dish and dipping's it still wouldn't make sense to do a back and forth. That's a bunch of additional palate cleansing.
It was a wonky attempt at drama with an illogical spin to give Souma an edge. Was he hiding the sauce or did the judges just not see it the first time? That's even weirder.
It should have gone taste Souma's bear alone, foodgasm, dip the meat, foodgasm, commentary. Then try Hayama's dish.

Argument goes both ways. They might as well have disqualified one of they fucked up the sauce.
When you taste food, you taste all of the food. By waiting, they're letting their dishes get cold, and messing with your perception of the flavors. Plus, it's really just inconvenient moving between the two dishes so much. It's not helpful, or intuitive to go through the dishes like that.

Honestly, I actually like this chapter despite not caring about the match at all.
I know the match is dragging on. But it make sense to end the match at 190, which will wrap up the volume. The Subaru match also lasted around 10 chapters.
Since last chapter was the 1st round, this chapter will be the 2nd round. The next one will be the 'final round. Just like a boxing match.Though it is kinda weird that the katsu never touch the sauce at all when it's clearly sitting on it…
I guess the author is going the supernatural route with the Nakiri's stripping ability. Soma's ultimate dish for Erina is going to make everyone literally naked.:ninja:

What I'm iffy about is how the manga's trying to explain the stripping phenomenon. Seems silly. But at least we can say for certain that the strip scenes were visuals unless a Nakiri is present, then it becomes real? That's my takeaway from the chapter.

Foodgasm & stripping normally happen in the mind. It's not real just people's imagination.The Nakiri are the exception to the rule where their stripping actually happen in reality and people can see it.
I think Soe is way more insane with his stripping since he's able to magically make clothes disappear & appear after stripping.:ninja:
But then again, there are instances where foodgasm are so strong that others can see it despite it being someone imagination. Eg: Soma being able to see the foodgasm that turn Fumio into a chimpanzee & the girls reaction to Subaru's stripping in the AE.
There are cases where they got carried away with the foodgasm and started acting it out. Eg: Fumio trying to kiss Soma & the judges holding hands in the AE semifinal.
