I'm glad they skimmed over the Shokugekis but really if Meat is clean sweeping the Central goons it not only makes Central not seem like a threat but also makes the rest of the school look like complete goobers. I'm hoping all the other competent 2nd years that can hold a candle to the first years just aren't in any research societies.
Food Wars - It's In the Trash

Would've been better if Azami found out about the duel, then went over the first seat and forced Souma to join Central.
-
Best character development for Azami: there's a duel about Fugu's dish between a first year and a central big cook; he's a judge and dies poisoned tasting the begginer's dish. It sure would get better ratings in the ToC.

The whole point is the first year are special and different from their senior. Hence why they are so much better.
Yeah, but I do agree that it made the other students look like jobber. If you are not first years, you can't win your match!
I called the 2nd year the "vice admiral" of this series. They only serve as a hype tools for other.
At least the third years have not jobbed yet… -
I though we would see Kuga leading the charge against Central's purge(to save his Chinese food or whatsoever research society). But surprisingly he is nowhere to be seen…and so is our Shiomi Seminar duo.

Well it's only the 2nd day of the purge still chance we could see it on the 3rd day.

Azami is slowly but surely killing this manga. The whole Central plot is so absurd that the aura around the 10 seats, went from cool rivals, to wacky villains. In a few months there is probably going to be an antagonist that would want to destroy evey Mcdonalds in the world or something like that.

That's Azami goal. He wants to destroy all restaurants in Japan that doesn't conform to his ideology aka not haute cuisine.
Maybe I'm just being optimistic…If the promotion exam is going to be outside of campus, we can hopefully have some light-hearted moment that remind us how good this series used to be without Azami...
-
Yeah I don't get why the author thought the series needed an overall villain. It was perfectly fine acting like a sports series where the main character was talented in his own right and hard working had to overcome the elite and out do his dad and rivals..
-
I want to go back to the days when Soma's biggest challenges were things like doing over 200 egg based dishes within a time limit, making something with limited ingredients, etc.
-
My favourite moments of the series are when Soma and his friends are having fun like normal teenagers. It's about making the most of your youth.
Partying till late night, drinking illegal brew, playing games, experimenting on different type of cooking and typical teenagers shenanigans.
Those were the fun days. (We're still getting some thankfully)
I also like it when we learn about different regional cooking. Now, Soma and co. have to challenge a psycho to get back their clubs…
-
Remember when they just played Ping Pong for a chapter. I miss when SnS was a ping pong manga
-
The thing that baffled me the most is how the author can make Azami so insipidly boring & bland. It takes skills to screw up your villain that badly. Azami actually has a pretty nice design but it just look stupid now.
He is literally the same archetype as Asano from Assassination classroom. And that guy was actually 1000 times more interesting. Sure as the series progress, he stop being interesting but he was still more entertaining than Azami as a villain.
Even Aizen "All according to the plan" seem like a masterpiece compared to Azami. -
With the way Shokugeki has been going with a cartoonishy evil villain I suddenly remembered I was reading Hell's Kitchen series too and made a thread for it. It's currently up to chapter 36. And it has a villain who also has it out for kids that just enjoy the art of cooking plus a demon lol.

Wow. I just binged through all 36 chapters.
It's kinda like a more exaggerated Shokugeki no Soma, but because it's consistently so outrageous, the (current) villain and his motivations actually fits well. Also, he's more likable than that Azami fellow. That was a fun read. Is it monthly?

Good lord o_o. Lol. Glad you found it enjoyable. It's monthly. Not sure how often the scanlators get around to it though.

Isn't Hisako supossed to be the cleric?
-
That's such a tease at the end, total shipper bait.
This ain't no confession, she's just going to take a step forward as a character and offer to give him personal training or something.
(Being a tsundere, she couldn't make her offer in front of the whole dorm)
Her approach and pose were sending mixed signals because it was the author's intention.I will eat my crow without complaints if i'm wrong, but I'm pretty damn sure this is just shipper bait. XD
-
Oooh #TeamErina might finally get some developments heading their way! Will Erina continue the tsun or finally reveal her dere side to Soma?
(find out next time on Dragonball Z)
EDIT: Kudos to the artist for that Azami-chappelle reaction page. Reminds me of Death Note's second opening, with the 100 Light Yagami heads all screming death metal
-
Son of a…! How can you end it here.
-
I guess it will end with obliviousness and hilarity because Shokugeki no Soma.
Also, I guess Chapelle-sensei's foodgasm is accurate to what most of us are currently feeling about Azami's action.
-
Chapelle foodgasm is like … me thinking something is enjoyable in soma, but still Azami comes to mind and everything goes away instantly.
And worst girl paying a late-night bedroom visit.

Even the author knows well.
Somehow this feels like is going to be the beggining of Azami's downfall: Erina finally takes action, Tsukasa shows he's not backing away, then there's Chapelle hinting at this camp being the last chance students who still have not given up will have, and we have Megumi implying they are close to become 2nd years.
And worst girl paying a late-night bedroom visit.
Get out of here.
-
Erina isn't even in the race. Let's see if she wants in.
-
Erina can turn up as late as she wants to this race because she knows she's gonna win
-
I suspect it will go along the line like 'how you can be so unfazed?','don't you have any fear?'..bla,blah,blah…

You sure? Looking at her mood I would say she's going to ask him about things that are more personal.

too early for that..though i would like to be surprised..
-
Oh! This manga totally went the Spykids route. It's so sad I'll just laugh away.
-
I still only half think the part of Azami's plan to have the students learn by sticking to recipes isn't a bad idea. Yeah they lose some individuality but they are students. They can expand outside the school. They should be learning the proper techniques. Also it's preventing so many drop outs.
But then again. Being able to experiment shouldn't be punished. They are only high schoolers. But also the other flip side is that there was such a strict criteria for even getting into the school in the first place it seems. So they should already know the basics.
I dunno. Azami plot is stupidly handled. When is Azami going to have his Rattatoui moment? That's basically the only end I can see happening for him to be removed or undo his mess.
-
Azami's entire motivation for doing this is revenge. And until we won't find out what happened that made him like that, we cannot fully understand his character.
-
Just Soma and Erina talking is literally enough to get the shippers so excited…When they finally hug, will the internet crash?!
I'm honestly apathy...I shipped them primarily because the story tell me so. But personally seeing them interact is so meh. I really just can't excited for it at all.
But if you like them personally, good for you.I don't get the big deal of the students just following Azami's instruction during the exam. They can just play along with him and when they get back to Tootsuki, they can just go back to normal. And Azami will flip because his genius plan was foiled!
Edit: I see the problem now. But randomly expelling the first year kinda make Azami afraid of them that he has to resort to this.
-
Now now, we all know the OTF (one true female main) is Takumi. :ninja:
Hey Mr Author, are you doing this stupid exam format just because you have no guts to send any fan favourite character back home? What happened to the good ol' Shokugeki style rivalry? Not even going to give us some Autumn Tournament style fun? So its now hooray lets take down Azami the oh so scary big bad? How did a manga I once loved religiously mutated into this?I hope the exam will be fugu preparation, like someone said before in this thread. Even better, they are going to cook some spine-filled fish dish. Azami swallows a fish bone, and chokes to death.
The DELFSouma's pops cries a tsunami and makes a crappy dish, which becomes too salty because of the tears, and thus Souma surpassed his dad. Happy ending. Thanks for reading, hope you enjoy Saeki Shun-sensei's new work coming soon! scatters flowers -
You seriously need to go see a doctor…

Bitchy mcbitch pants is gonna help Aw shucks Soma beat Food Stalin
While Italian Yamcha, Titty Tsundere, Alice, Girl next door and the other idiots just get carried through the arc.

It's a flashback. You can skip it if you want it.

Nice chapter. ….......
-
Personally, I'm more interested in the exact relationship between Senzaemon & Joichirou. Senzaemon deliberately wanted Joichirou to come on the day when nobody was around. He also didn't intend for Erina to meet with Joichirou…It kinda seem like Senzaemon didn't want anyone to know that Joichirou is here...
It's cool that Erina is getting more CD but honestly I don't really care for Soma x Erina. So, it doesn't interest me. I know they are pretty much going to get together. But I'm just so meh about it...
-
Hey if Soma and Erina happening means that there's the slightest chance of Megumeat I'm down
-
For a "big moment" in the series (Soma x Erina getting stronger-fulfilling chapter 1 promise), there seem to be a severe lack of response toward this chapter. Where are all the Soma x Erina shippers??:wassat:
The Tsukasa vs Soma got more comments in reddit than this chapter…:ninja: -
Probably because the 'harem' element of SnS is by far it's least interesting part. Soma doesn't even care so why should we? That along with how crappy and drawn out the last couple of chapters have been have really killed the general interest in the series.
Best girl is Alice anyway and she's unattainable.
-
-
But she isn't tho.
-
That was a decent chapter, though I don't expect Bitch mcbitch pants to give in to Soma's cooking.
-

Soma will have to care eventually to fulfill what his dad said in chapter 1.
Considering that Soma x Erina is 99% confirm, there's not much "harem". The other girls are just there to remind us of the more interesting choices Soma could have went with. But he likes his tsundere.:ninja:
From what I observed, most arlongpark forum member generally don't give a crap about the shipping in this series. Lol In other forums I visit, people have been gushing about Soma x Erina (in particular) since Azami showed up.People do care about the ships.Honestly, pacing has never been the author strong point. Since I binge read up till the AE's semifinal, I didn't felt it was slow. Once the finals started, the chapters were really draggy.
This & the previous chapter were also a bit slow imo. Also the chapter where the judges explain why ryou's dish was superior.
Personally, in terms of pacing & interest level, Soma vs Tsukasa was the one I enjoyed the most (aside from Azami's nonensical plan reveal). I absolutely hated Soma vs Eizan & was meh about Ryou vs Fodder.
I think the author is actually "speeding" up his pace…
I think the author intended the survival hunt to be a long sub-arc... But when Ryou vs fodder tanked so badly & people couldn't care less about the Central members introduced, he fast forwarded through it and introduced the "promotion exam" arc. I guess it's a good thing. And yes, Alice is the best girl that Soma can't have so he settled for her cousin instead.
-
Sure, if you ignore the buildup with megumi, who already has done the whole "think on the person you love" to make her food better. They have grown together and motivate each other.
I can't deny Alice's quality, but she is not part of the harem.
And erina, while foreshadowed, what will tie them together? You make me foodgasm like your father?
-
The thing is that Soma doesn't look attracted to any girl in particular, Erina included, nor he looks like the romantic guy. We know he has to find the girl for whom to cook, so that he can improve his cooking up to the top. So, the author should have to develop that side of Soma. Or, he could end up cooking for someone he's not in love with, like in an only-business-agreement, which is also possible yet.
-
I feel like a lot of shonen authors just really can't write romance. They stick to too common tropes but forget about how humans actually act if they like someone or have any sort of sex drive that doesn't immediately pass into pervert. That Soma has not even seem phased by all the varied attractive people around him makes him seem a bit less developed. One track minded is one thing but he seems to have very little else with his personality at times.

Time to make an ad for Sengoku Youko. A trully golden shounen gem, full of great action, cool art, great romance, and mind-blowing lovable characters!
