      Hi,

First of all I would like to say sorry for the trouble but since I don't belong to much forum I don't know where else to ask.

Here's the problem I'm having. I just bought a new PC and a few days later a strange thing happen. Everytime I shut down my PC, it shuts down properly but a few seconds later it turns back on by itself. So now I have to quickly turn off the power switch to prevent it from turning back on again.
However, when I turn the power back on a few hours later it doesn't start by it self until I press the power button on the case. So the problem seem to occur when I shut down from Windows. I haven't tried to shut down manually by force (by pressing the power buttom for a while)

I am running on WinXP Professional SP1 with separate antivirus and firewall program running (so i don't think it's virus).

Does anybody have a suggestion or idea what is happening?

Thank you so much in advance for any kind of help

I never use those keyboard power-buttons.

Is it possible you're suspending the machine or resetting it instead of powering down? A lot of machines don't handle suspend gracefully. I never saw any of the ones I've built do it properly until this present one.

Do you have "wake on LAN" enabled, and have the machine connected to a network or cable/dsl box via the Ethernet jack? Perhaps it's just recieving some delayed messages and coming alive.

Thank you for the reply Bounty1Berry πŸ˜ƒ
I never use keyboard power-buttons as well, what I meant was the power button on the case πŸ‘…

But I am connected through LAN for my DSL connection. And I alays turn my PC off before turning off my modem…....which may be what you mentioned by "wake on LAN" enabled. I'll try shutting down the modem first and see what happens.

          Thank you again Bounty1Berry

I've had this problem before and I don't know how it went away XD

Anyway, I think you should turn off your PC after you have turned off your modem and it might work - it did for me.

Thank you so much for the reply and advice Bounty1Berry & StrawHatLuffy. Much appreciated.

This is my first time knowing that a LAN/Ethernet can do that πŸ‘…
