East Asia is pretty spotless on this account in terms of the Post-Cold War compared to Europe.
I'll be 100% honest. Most of those places didn't really ting of as Europe in my mind
Neither does Russia really. Even though St.Petersburg isn't even that far from here
So yeah forgive my gross misuse of the word Europe
@Cyan:
Serbs sure are a contentious people.
Their culture is laid across an extreme sense of historic victimhood mixed with extremely delusional sense of grandeur of their history.
They're located directly in the middle of the Southeast European highway, also meaning for the greater part of the last 600 years they've been directly in the paths of the Turks and later Austrians.
It's created a very angry, paranoid, and frustrated culture.

Sometimes I think that the Scandinavian countries, France, and the UK don't register any other part of Europe as actually existing

Again duder, like we tell the Brits when they say things like "Eh we're not really in Europe so much".
Trust us on the outside, with the exception of the South Caucasus and Asian Turkey?
That's all Europe all the way, 100%.

The Macedonian Vs Serb conflict is a new one for me, is it the same "NO NO YOU CAN'T LEAVE" thing that's going on with Kosovo or something
@Cyan:

It's never been violent, and I'm not sure what's contentious exactly. But they aren't friendly. And it wouldn't be hard to imagine some Macedonian or Serb girl doing what the Japanese girl is if some situation made them even more mad.
@Cyan:

Well there's Spain, Germany Italy, and those little countries sprinkled inbetwenn that also register but your point remains true
When the rest shows up it's like oh hey kinda not Russian but not really European dudes forgot you lived here too

Eh? Are you joking? I can't seem to tell if you are.
I imagine that any country with a name that ends like that is among the more recognizable. We also know of them since they're among the two nations that on average are taller than Scandinavia
It's always been kinda funny how we kinda sorta slip Finland into Scandinavia in casual conversation
But not Estonia. That's a weird far off place removed from us. Seems kinda arbitrary

Eh? Are you joking? I can't seem to tell if you are.
When was East Asia's last genocide attempted or otherwise. Because Europe has 1999 on the ol' scoreboard.
I can't think of anything for post cold war genocide within East Asia. Plenty within China during the cold war, but nothing that comes to mind afterwards unless there is something obscure I am missing.
@Monkey:

Oh, you were talking genocide attempts. I thought you were talking about animosity in general.
@cooldud_21:
Oh, you were talking genocide attempts. I thought you were talking about animosity in general.
Naw, I meant real acting on ethnic animosity to the point of extreme violence.
The closest things I can think of in East Asia are…not really East Asian parts of China like Xinkiang and Tibet.
Would you consider Tibet East Asia? I guess it has to be.
Xinkiang is Chinese Central Asia though no doubt.

im usually good at reading holyese but im kind of stumped on this one :<
I think beasteru is doing her take on that Russell Peters bit that goes on about 1:30
@cooldud_21:
Oh, you were talking genocide attempts. I thought you were talking about animosity in general.
Oh pfft animosity. That goes without saying. The East Asians are generally suspicious of each other, but I don't think any of them would outright commit "genocide" since it would make them look bad on a global scale (note: I am just going to exclude NK's opinion on the matter since…who cares what they think).
I think a fair share of conflict lies with the fact they all think they are better than each other. (Basically who has the longest dick contest...)
Honestly, I can never see the notion of "racism" as a topic ever being taught within a compulsory school education system in Asia (verses in the States where it was taught as early as latter primary school). It kinda blows my mind.
haha this is so delayed but I just saw it. yeah these just don't exist because I think we kinda like teaching kids that Asian countries are all peaceful and harmonious or something but I remember my history / social studies lessons having a huge emphasis on racial riots that occurred here in the 60s. (we're the first result if you google 'race riots'.) I remember it well because the stories were so scary XD I guess that was kinda like a lesson on racism???
our government became extremely antsy about issues of race after that, which might be partly why we celebrate the holidays of like every single major ethnicity here as a nation (with public holidays and big parades).

Not Korean but when I went to Korea on holiday for a week, my tour guide was quite pointed in insisting that so-and-so is from Korea and was created by Koreans and that the Japanese just copied them. Also she laughingly told us that even though they disliked the Japanese they still did a lot of business with them in order to reap financial benefits from them (direct translation of her words would be "take their money"). She was really really nice and interesting and fun overall, it was just super natural lol. The same way she asked my mom if she wanted to buy a Botox package
^In the recent years, Korea has this weird cultural fad of claiming origin to EVERYTHING.
Hell they even made fun of it themselves with that Pizza commercial.

Hyper-nationalism would be hilarious if it weren't also terrifying.
Like conversations about the most powerful empires in history having angry Serbs jump in to wonder why Medieval Serbia isn't being brought up alongside the Mongol Hordes, British Empire or Romans.

It is pretty damn funny at times. I really don't know how recent it is (nor am I certain what it is a reaction to). But they do have a knack for being extremely insist on being the first to come up with particular innovations. One of the more amusing ones is the claim to the iphone (which is really strange). Supposedly the Koreans were the FIRST to come up with the idea of the iphone which…I really don't get.
Koreans are overtly nationalistic, but it makes sense due to their historical development (being conquered and over and over and over...).
I'm extremely racist. Fuck white bitch's, all about that yellow fever.

It's still racist,
but I believe you thought it was racist solely because it dissed on white women.
When it's also an example of the exotification of Asian women.
Fetishizing a race is not respectful, nor does it suggest that they are "superior".
Of course, you were probably joking,
but it's still an important distinction.

lol I went to google something and google autofill popped up "are indians asian" so I clicked it and the first result was this:
What
Well Indians technically in a region called South Asia. So I guess it is appropiate calling an Indian an "Asian"…just like calling an Egyptian an "African".

In the UK, Asian = South Asian.
Nowhere does it mean West Asian :(

I get a slightly peeved when people say "East Indian". We're the original Indians dammit! There should be no need for that qualifier
