Well unattainable ideals are sad in general.
Yeah it's very sad. Also it really makes you more aware of advertising and it's subtle racism. I think people of your own race treating you like dirt or raising you on a pedestal is also sad.
I'm on the lighter enough of the spectrum I don't have a weave and my hair is long enough to rests between my shoulder blades and is straight from getting relaxers. This random black guy with an African accent of some sort was trying to chat me up while I was waiting at a gas station. He said things like. Is that your real hair? Are you nails real? Are you mixed?
I told him I wasn't. And he just kept insisting like I must be lying. It was really weird to me. I'm not of 100% African decent like a lot of African Americans, but my parents are identified as black. Not Black with a touch of European or Native American ancestry, it's too many generations behind us to qualify that.
I've also been called redbone. Which wasn't a term I heard til last month. I think I just happen to live in a state where the white people are super pc and the black people say whatever comes to mind lol.
On the last point I said I wasn't
