Looks like they rushed the hair. Could have been so much better, but it's just been done as one big clump. with very few strands. Like Skadi said, the colors all off as well.

The ending has Toriko mentioning those pre-shot routines again, and it seems to be gearing up with Starjun scared because Toriko seems to be unleashing his final attack. It's not said what it is, but the set up is Starjun on a plate like how the Four Beast was served up before unleashing Pac Man, so Toriko's probably going to send out his own version of the attack.

Nice to see Toriko use fatal intimidation like Setsuno. If now both of them will go all out, we don't need recap on how Toriko got a hole in his chest. And it's cool that he can heal such injuries on spot. That takes not only calories, but also strength of cells. I hope Shima will give fight just as dynamic as we wanted it all this time.

Yes, how strong can be these two (and Jirou, of course, but don't forget other characters like the guys from 0th Biotope - Rapp is stronger than Zebra…-, Teppei, Zaus, Shigematsu, Mansam - we saw a little demonstration of his real power - and, of course, Setsuno and...Joa).
Anyway, Toriko didn't use intimidation like Setsuno, he send two lethal hits agaist Starjun, which forseen the danger and dodged the first and guarded the latter.Talking of other things, Aimaru teaching some technique to Toriko is pretty amazing. We just saw Ai defeating (and maybe killing) Jerry Boy (who was Gourmet World material before the Kings) in a blink of an eye. He must be really tough!

The problem is that we haven't gotten a fight yet. The pacing would have been fine if we had gotten to see the epic battle that drove Toriko to such a position. Some sort of payoff to a huge struggle. As is, Shimabukuro decided to skip all that so we're left without any sort of emotional investment in Toriko's struggle. We just got one huge infodump of a chapter on Toriko's gaymance with Komatsu instead of little bits here and there throughout an epic fight that would have gotten us invested.
Ultimately, it's just two of the most boring characters in the series mugging at each other. Sure the imagery is cool, but there's no substance to it. It's all so superficial. It all ties back to inconsistent pacing which has always been a huge problem with this series. He blazes through the initial fight and just randomly stops and slows down to a snail's pace at the most inopportune moment? What?

You do know that this is a PURE shonen series? A manly man doing manly things thing? We don't want a steady pace, it would be boring. We want either an over the top fast plot progression or even faster fights. We have other shonen titles for the steady plot or predictable fights pace. Toriko is just a rollercoaster ride, enjoy it.

Agreed. But despite everything I still think a somehow kinda different edition of the festival will be held by the chefs themselves when the battle ends. I think what Shima did there was some kind of elimination process. Many chefs will be kidnapped, others will go their way, and in the end only the ones that received special focus stay. This was also the only way Komatsu had any chance to pass to the next round since we now know Zaus won't be staying in the island for long.
Because no one here expected Shima to spent over 20 chapters in a shounen gourmet battle manga, right?

Got mixed feelings about this chapter. While I do hold Toriko to a lower standard when it comes to storytelling and characterization, the fight between Toriko and Star wasn't that interesting so far. I liked the pages with Star twice seeing himself die, and how him dodging Torikos attacks is well drawn (the choreography is good, easy to follow), but the fight itself so far is pretty boring. We had Toriko unleashing a barrage of attacks on Star, which apparently didn't even faze him that much, despite Star coughing blood, then we switch over to some other fights and back to this one, with Toriko being impaled by Star, which continues with him attacking Star again, while after 234 chapters we still haven't seen Star attack once. Think about that, we know that he can burn a tent (which is really unimpressive in the Torikoverse), and that he somehow managed to impale Toriko, but we have yet to see him throw an attack at anyone in flesh.
I suppose this is Shima teasing us about Stars hidden strength, so when the moment comes for him to actually do stuff, we are supposed to be super impressed.Star better be one hell of a fighter after all that teasing

What drew me into the manga initially wasn't the manly testosterone fights. The first few chapters where the series looked like it would be Toriko and Komatsu will be going ingredient hunting was what made me think this manga's special, a potential expansive world where Shima gets to go wild with creative ideas. It wasn't until later down the line that I realized Shima's limits as a story teller meant that the cool ideas will only be surface level, but he's still able to come up with cool designs and interesting concepts. Are the fights cool? Yeah, but I like Toriko for moments beyond that, hence why I will keep complaining about skipping over the cooking festival (and I was so confident at the time that this series was going to be great that I actually have been buying the physical copies as they come out, something I have only done for One Piece at the moment. Eventually am planning to buy series of all the manga I've read online but for obvious financial reason…)
As for this chapter, mentioned it already but I'll say it again. A great fight is all about the back and forth. Now, this clearly isn't going to be the end of Starjun since he's been foreshadowed to be bigger down the line (and I'll give Shima this. Sure, the foreshadowing/reveals tend to be superficial but he does leave the breadcrumbs for people to follow), but the fight would be much more interesting if Starjun wasn't just testing Toriko and actually fought back. Hence why for me chapter = not very interesting. Now, I can understand not wanting another Tommyrod situation where characters have shown all they're capable of, but I still think fights can have two characters get into a brawl, still have more to reveal in the future and end without having one side getting defeated.
Only other bit I'm worried about is that despite the forum's and general lack of enthusiasm for Toriko, he is the titular character. Unless the story's going to cut away for the fight, this should be the final climatic fight right before the true climax of the arc starts rolling, which implies the rest of the battles have been shown all they were going to be shown. Now, given his usual breakneck speed I prepared myself for the speed up, but after Tommyrod/Sunny and Elg/Brunch? Got spoiled and was hoping the rest of the fights will be follow through as well.
