Yeah I was hoping we'd actually get, like, any cooking at all over this story, but I suppose I can make do with Brunch and Mansam getting to show their combat skills and all that. Just have to hope this isn't being used as an excuse to head towards an end-game already.

My favorite part of this arc is the introduction of all the ranked chefs, especially Wabutora for some odd reason. Your right though there has been a server lack of cooking in this cooking festival.

I am so excited to see the top Gourmet World people with true power fighting… like Setsuno, Chiyo, the two Oth Biotope guys (Kuriboh & Kousairou), the unexpected twist from the 3rd faction besides IGO & Bishokukai.
I think the 3rd faction also has some notable chefs among them.. like Ume friend of Komatsu... they took him away when they sensed Bishokukai is coming..
Lets see if the fights in this arc will be more awesome & epic than IceHell arc.. -

"Remember that big epic battle against the last boss we had? And when we resolved everyone's backstory problems? And that time every side character got a moment to shine and each subplot from the last 10 years was given a nod and some attention to detail? And wasn't it so cool when that one guy did that thing? And how Negi admited he was in love with that one girl out of the class but we won't actually mention her by name? Yeah. Those sure were good times we had during that 10 year timeskip. Oh, and the final outcome of everything doesn't matter because we introduced multiple realities and who knows if this moment right now even counts.
…Now lets have a slime monster dissolve some clothing!"
Basically he finished up a big multi year arc and then skipped the final arc straight to the ending wrap up. Missing two or three years of content the story needed to actually wrap up that would have made it work.
It would be kind of like Dragonball having the crew fight Frieza, and then jumping the epilogue of the Buu saga and then talking about all the stuff that happened inbetween like the big fights, transformations, kids and new characters for a couple pages without it ever actually happening.
Or One Piece wrapping up Skypeia, and then having a timeskip and three chapters later talking about the great adventure they had on Raftel and how hard a fight Blackbeard and Mihawk had been, and that time Ace died, while Franky, Brook and Jinbe stand around in the background like they'd been introduced and we'd gotten actual stories with them.
If it had just been an open-ended "well, someday we'll accomplish our dreams" ending, it would have been bad, but acceptable... instead it was "aannnd I'm tired of this, screw resolution, stuff happened, we're out."

Speculations: Zaus is Joa and works for Jidar Kingdom. Moreover, he's not a bad guy, maybe he's suffering from multiple personality. His level is on par with Setsuno not only for the cooking skills. If Kousairou is a traitor, he's working for Jidar Kingdom too. If he's going to appear, the Mastermind behind the Four Beast will be Mohya Shaishai or a super brainy Nitro mimicking him. However, he will be freaking strong.

The very best thing I could´ve asked for happened already. I really REALLY REALLY needed to see Cedre again to confirm his usual (non bandaged) appearance. The difficulty to cosplay him became extremely higher now, but some of my headcanons were confirmed
I´m counting at least 26 scars, the guy either sleeps on a blender or is a piñata for beasts. I wonder if he drops eyeball shaped candies if the monsters make a hole on him.
I´ve used each and every second since I saw him on the spoilers to draw him like crazy. So far I´ve completed 3 drawings but there are dozens in the oven (I have a college exam coming soon so…)

OH, MY GOODNESS!!!!! i use to read negima but stopped. no specific reason, i was suppose to pick it back up but never got around to it and now i find out this is how it ends? this is ridiculous the potential he manga had was pretty good and that ending u explained, so horrible and just makes me entirely sad :sad:

I think this is the start of the Jidar faction getting super hyped up. Including a trend that tries to paint them as getting the best of everything. Presuming a bit here, but I think the following trends might be set.
(Note the significance of the ranking)
#1 - Zaus/Joa - Jidar
#2 - Setsuno - IGO
#3 - Brunch - Soon to be Bishokukai (He has captured chef turned into antihero written all over him)
Now you have a connection with Komatsu's group as well. In fact, I'm going to go so far as to speculate that Ume actually has more talent than both Komatsu and Ootake. Leading again to the following ranking:
#1 - Ume - Jidar
#2 - Komatsu - IGO
#3 - Ootake - Bishokukai
Now, this is really going into far out theory land, but there's another significant 123 pattern in Toriko.
#1 - Ichiryuu - IGO
#2 - Jirou - ????
#3 - Midora - Bishokukai
I have no clue how it would be written, but there's a part of me that really wonders if a face-heel turn is in the works for Jirou at this point. The manga is clearly being driven in the direction of 3 powers opposing each other, and the fact that Jirou is the only disciple that's unaffiliated seems rather suspect. Even though I can't imagine what angle could be used to say Jirou is working with the Jidar faction, I can't help but think that all the non-Jirou evidence is pointing in that direction.

The entire purpose of this arc from the Bishokukai's perspective is to kidnap chefs. It'd be incredibly weak storyline wise if they didn't make off with any significant prizes as a result of their attack. For long lasting story consequences, one of the people they pick up needs to be someone the readers will actually give a shit about. Brunch fits the bill perfectly, and completes the 123 symbolism between the factions. I think the odds of him ending up with the Bishokukai after this are actually quite high.

But Buranchi could already be associated with the Four Heavenly Kings and Komatsu. Yes, I think some chefs will be kidnapped but Buranchi isn't in this group. After the last page I assume Yuda could be one of these (though we know how tough he is). However the Bishokukai already have the counterpart for Setsuno, the other old "lady", Chiyo. They don't need Buranchi. So we could have: Setsuno for the IGO, Chiyo for Bishokukai and Zaus/Joa for the third faction.
Don't look at everything divided in three factions. The Nitros in Gourmet Pyramid were free "sleeping" Nitro. -
