! uumen even grew a mustache huh? Lol
Toriko II: Ichiryuu's Slimy Insides!!
-
-
So many cool monsters.
And Uumen being a badass is actually pretty hilarious if you ask me (in a good way that is).
-
Yeah sorry but the twist with all these traitors doesn't really work at all. The problem is that the traitors themselves are one chapter characters that haven't had any development so their actions don't resonate at all with me because they're just those really powerful guys and nothing more. Even the elimination of IGO and its board of directors is pretty underwhelming because the organization itself was so poorly developed. It really seems like such a waste to eliminate such an important organization without exploring it in detail. Zebra showing up at the end was pretty cool though.
-
Yuda cut himself to revive himself. Cute.
-
Dayum Zebra. That was crazy. I'm a little surprised that we didn't go back to Coco's fight after Sunny's.
-
what a chapter.. agree with TLC about the twist but fun chapter indeed. too bad ELG character was build up at the moment of his death. if he was developed like that earlier, i might be enjoying his fight with Buranchi a bit more..
-
@Thousand:

Agreed. If this was supposed to be shocking, it sure as hell didn't work. I don't even remember those characters.
-
Thanks as always Kewl.
Not bad but Shigematsu has been so absent from this series that that's not realy a great twist, like the others said.
-
Best part about Elg's story was his character design. His true face is much more interesting than the mask he has. Shima is limited as a story teller, and I felt like this could've had a bigger impact if set up properly, but the story itself seems solid albeit uderwhelming.
Same with the betrayals. For some reason this reminded me of Bleach in two ways. One is getting a group of characters betraying their organization, minus setting up the false persona (except maybe for Uumen from the first chapter What?) The second is that Ichi reminds me of Yamamoto in being incompetent in running his company and allowing the IGO to fall apart. It's not a perfect analogy, but that's the first things that crossed my mind when reading it.
Shigematsu being part of Neo makes sense and was a nice call by CaptainAppleJack, but like TLC said, he was probably in the background too much to have its impact, even if he was the #2 of the IGO.
Also agree with Genocider Syo in wondering whether Ume being a traitor has anything to do with his popularity. Either that or I wonder if his popularity will fluctuate because of this. And people did call this from the silhouette though a few chapters ago.
-
The wait for Zebra to step in was really worth it
I just didn't have the heart to keep spoiling myself after reaching the scene with Mansam being stabbed by that creepy snake of Shige.
-
After this chapter, I'm still not sold why would anyone join NEO instead of being directly under Ichiryuu or Midora (because there will be traitors among the high ranking Bishokukai members too). Because Ichiryuu still could wipe out all of them in a fight. It would be cool if Midora and Ichiryuu worked together to take down NEO before their final showdown.
-
Hahaha wow the guy from the first chapter. It's totally ridiculous and doesn't really make any sense, but I feel like that's totally fine in Toriko.
-
Elg is really stimulated by Buranchi calling him good looking.
-
The chapter was really badass, which is what I ask of Toriko. And the last weeks (or even months) it has delivered.
But I also agree with TLC and the rest in that, god, Shigematsu appeared for what, 1 or 2 pages in all of the series? There was simply no build up to his persona at all. We didn't even have a single reason to like him or, dare I say, remember he existed, beyond the fact that we just knew someone between the positions of Mansam and Ichiryu existed, and his name was Shigematsu. People in the Toriko verse didn't even talk about him! I mean, in One Piece we have Shanks who is barely on-panel, but his presence is felt throughout the story. Shima shouls've worked more on that front.
Umen's twist is super hilarious, though.
I never thought Shima would kill off Elg right after introducing him to the main stage, but, sincerely, I found him quite bland and uninteresting, so good bye. At least his last moments with Buranchi were somewhat cool.
And the entrance by Zebra is spectacular. Ive never been a Zebra fan, but that was overkill.
-
This entire battle is super awesome, but I hope that when it ends we will see the battle in the Gourmet World. I think that battle will make this one look as child's play However I'm afraid we will only see the aftermath of it and the people who died.
-
I'm waiting for some Zebra action since … dunno ... the last Zebra action. And finally it looks like we will have some in the next chapter. Shima you better deliver!!!
-

I kind of like that Shima doesn't fuck around with the villains.
If they need to die then so be it, he doesn't elongate their fights just because he made a semi-interesting character. -
Oh my, so Uumen and Shigematsu are traitors for real. Yeah, maybe Shigematsu has been in the underground too much but his betrayal hurts because first he did something against Mansam, who appeared to be one of his closest friends. And maybe his development will start now.
Like projectelf, I can't understand why some (so) important IGO members are betraying leaving Ichiryuu's side. Maybe, in the end, we don't know but Shigematsu is some monster comparable to the "Big Three" or Setsuno. He got to be one of the top fighters in the world. Still I don't get why he and Uumen betrayed.
I exepect someone (big) of the Bishokukai (not only Joejoe) will betray too.
The thing about Buranchi's village is quite interesting. At least there's a village in the Gourmet Wolrd, so everybody in there would be strong enough to survive the harsh enviroment. And Zebra having made contact with the Dharma Hermit? Does this mean he went to Buranchi village? So Zebra was ready for Gourmet World long ago.
And now Zebra. The chefs remaining are in despair (but who would have thought Kopuriko would last till now?) and Zebra arrives and kills. Interesting enough but not so much. Now I want to know what's happening with Coco vs-Grinpatch, Limon and Setsuno vs.Chiyo (and then vs.Zaus).
I love Toriko. Thanks a lot kewl for your great work.
-
And suddenly everything makes sense. I always found strange that Shigematsu wouldn't show himself most of the times. As for Uumen, this guy always used the IGO to do the dirty job for him. It also explains why he did stop Mansam from slaughtering the Fourbeast since the monster was revived by someone who is part of NEO.
But… if anyone here thinks Ichiryuu wasn't aware of this, then you're underestimating him a lot. I'm sure, pretty sure some of those NEO are double agents.

You are surprised? Somehow I think am the only one who knew from the very beggining this woman was strong. Her wardrobe got my attention.

What? Where was this from?

Even so, the IGO human world seems to be crumbling. Sure, the human world will probably stop being significant after this arc and everybody is in the Gourmet World, but still.
It's a good point though with the whole Four Beast and Uumen scene.
One final bit, and this is another nitpick, but since Toriko's world is all about unique designs I feel like it's more valid to complain about this, but Rin and Chiru look so alike, especially given their faces are shown back to back on the same page.
-
What? Where was this from?
I got this idea because every time Shigematsu appeared, he and only Mansam interact: they drank together, they went and protect Gido's GT Robo from being rescued by Grinpatch, they gathered the Giraffes for the Cooking Fest. So the fact Shigematsu showed his real face attacking Mansam is quite an upset (to me).
Now I hope some of the IGO betrayers are double agents. I can't believe Ichiryuu being so careless!

One interesting bit is the panel after the Fourbeast defeat. Mansam is looking at Uumen with a glare that says "I know who you are working for".

Fair enough. But I fell for Kopuriko, so I don't care.
-
@Area41 Good point. He did only interact with Mansam when he was shown. In that respect, guess attacking Mansam is the best possible scenario for betrayal given what's there.
And with all the talk of Kopuriko I had to recheck the chapter cause I didn't catch her. And even then I kept missing her panel this chapter till' now.
-
You guys not caring about the badass Alakazam are making me sad.
-
Haha didn't even see that.
Mansam :(, good chapter I'm really liking Neo involvement and making this a three way "race" from now on, I'm assuming they probably have moles on the Bishokukai.
-
With Uumen is evident, but with Shige they are misleading us. What with the scenario switch immediatly after Mansam gets stabbed from behind.
-
In his translation Kewl calls it: in his opinion Uumen is Joa. I don't think this could be possibile but it would be quite a surprise.
-
The one thing I didn't like was that Zebra now looks way more powerful than Mansam who is vice president
-
The only one who could be a double agent right now is the first old man who was suspected.
-

Why? Mansam was ripping through everything and got caugth when he wasn't expecting.
-

You say Kousairou? I hope so. But NEO needs characters as strong as hell, till now they seem to have only top fighters, but they're few: Kousairou, Kuribou, Zaus, Joa, Shigematsu (among the top fighters) and Uumen Umeda.
-
Why? Mansam was ripping through everything and got caugth when he wasn't expecting.
Because Zebra took all those monsters down instantly. I know Mansam was doing well but Zebra now looks even more impressive
-
@Essam:
I'm with Shigematsu is just stopping Mansan , no way in hell that he is with NEO , a second in command the old man can be so careless like this , lets wait for full chapter and see
Sorry I don't know how to make a spoiler tag :(
Then you should wait for the chapter release to post, half the times a chapter is released I get spoiled when I enter to read the discussion about the past chapter, because someone doesn't use the tags -.- I think I won't check the thread before the week's chapter is out ever again, it completely kills the fun for me to know what will happen.
By the way, to create a spoiler tag you have to write:
! [ /spoiler] ( no space between the [ and the / )
! About the chapter itself, well:
! Evil Uumen is awesome. Not much more to say, I hope we change to Coco's fight soon. And I hope Mansam doesn't die, he's one of my favorites :/ -
Because Zebra took all those monsters down instantly. I know Mansam was doing well but Zebra now looks even more impressive
It's possible some of the monsters are weaker than the Giant GT Robos Mansam was taking down one after another like they're mosquitos.
-
Because Zebra took all those monsters down instantly. I know Mansam was doing well but Zebra now looks even more impressive
Zebra also has a different fighting style than Mansam. Zebra has a pretty good AOE attacks. Mansam seemed to only just be using his fists.
-
This whole betrayal thing would probably have more impact if I knew who the characters were. I had to look up Shigematsu to have any idea why he was so important, and I only remembered Uumen because his inclusion in the top ten of the character popularity poll was so random, given that he had only appeared in a handful of panels up to that point. The same thing goes for most of the members of NEO - with the possible exceptions of Zaus (who stood out given his rank), Joa, and Kuriboh (who was made conspicuous by the fact that he was the one that Ichiryuu chose to find traitors in the IGO), I don't think I recognized any of them so far.
-
I'll share this feeling of mine once again. I just can't believe that Ichiryuu of all people could be this naive. I mean he is one of the persons who are above all others without a doubt and can't see through some low-leveled cells boy's treachery and tricks? If he didn't tell Jirou to go there or he himself doesnt appear, which i really doubt since he is really chasing Air, it is such a let down. To grow mindlessly strong just because you eat shiny food… And all on all i still really don't think Ichiryuu could be that naive. Because at Sani's flashback he showed great wisdom. Those words were great and meaningful... If Jirou is not Joa I really hope he appears this arc. For god's sake GOD will apear and his combo might die!
-
I knew Zebura got the haoshoku.
-
Ichiryuu isn't careless. The man who predicted the Four Beast were just one single being that was being controlled by a mastermind, the man who carefully crafted Toriko's training, the man who knew the one who told the Bishokukai about Center was one of the members of the Biotophe 0, wouln't make such mistakes. Something is not right and I have no doubt at least one of those two is a double agent. And Shigematsu also is, but just if he did that in order to prevent Mansam going full rampage.
-

Yep, that's how I feel too. Had to look up Shigematsu, and I still don't remember seeing him before. That's the problem with Toriko, there are too many characters introduced at once and never seen again. Maybe I really need to read it again from chapter 1.
-

Not even Darnil ? The guy who appeared alongside Joa ?
-
I didn't know him by name but once I saw who he was I recognized him. I believe he showed up for the first time at the very end of the Regal Mammoth arc. After that he may have only appeared once or twice.
I agree that Ichiryuu isn't stupid, he diffenetly knows that NEO exist and hr may even know that somr of his close allies are members of it. He may not want to act against them right now but he probably does have a plan to deal with all of them. There is no way he is clueless about the organizations existence.
-
I'm happy that Shima gave Elg some final panels. I was sadly convinced it will be dropped like that, with Buranchi going away. Last week I found it underwhelming that Elg got caught in the shock circle and that's all. I really wanted something more convincing to be the finishing reason, at least the calories taken and running away. So I'm happy Shima gave some resolution to the fight. Since Gourmet cells seem very rational matter, even posessing some kind of personal entity, them finding it vain to regenerate is a good cause for defeat.
And Zebra is finally taking action. Sweet!
I'm happy that there is such thing as Food Density. I remember thinking that if IGO and all legal food-affilates are on Food Honor or Food Respect, Food Order side, Bishokukai are more of Food Domination mentality. Because apparently concerning food, in Toriko world there is no such thing as evil as long as they are not wasting it. But there is difference and Bishokukai are villains, so there must be something to divide them on.
-
The only one who could be a double agent right now is the first old man who was suspected.
Exactly. Kuriboh, Shigematsu, and Uumen already did something to "evil" to really be considered double agents, unless Shigematsu did that for Mansam's sake like Nekketsu is suggesting. (Kuriboh holding Ume should be the clue like Uumen killing IGO that he's not a good guy since he could've let Ume escape otherwise)
But if Kousairou is a double agent, what's the benefit of sending Kuriboh down to protect the cooking festival as well? Doesn't make sense if he knew Kousairou is loyal, regardless of whether or not he knows Kuriboh is an agent or not.
-
I had a reason when the traitors were just them (Kuribo and Kurosario) but I forgot.
There should be a mole anyways.
-
Has Uumen even shown any combat proficiency before this chapter or at least some foreshadowing?
he kinda seemed like the manager type of guy who is weak and useless in combat. -
Has Uumen even shown any combat proficiency before this chapter or at least some foreshadowing?
he kinda seemed like the manager type of guy who is weak and useless in combat.Nah, he only had few talking parts. I'm also not sure about how strong he is for killing the bureau chiefs, since these guys (Glass, Bull, Wyne and possibly Naroid) all seemed like business types, not fighters, so maybe he killed them with the most simple methods that any of us can do.
edit: looking at it again, the way the blood is splattered everywhere implies that he did go wild. -
Now…who are the double agents on the Bishokukai side?
-
I hope Alfaro is not with NEO. But I sorta got that feeling :C
