Good luck on your friend's game project.
The only thing I would say is that I don't know if the spear is large or just very close to the viewer. Adding a shadow underneath might help.
Can't offer much more than that except keep practicing when you can. -

You don't have to post all of the nudes if you don't want to, but even if you did you could just put up a NSFW warning and say it's tasteful nudes.
You know we've had worse here.
What program are you using there btw?
-
Manga Studio 5 and it rules imo
-
Hmm, quite impressive. WAY better then what my art skills are capable of IMO.
-
That face looks really nice, especially the shading on the nose. Was it drawn after a picture or not?
I like your other drawings too, you seem to have an eye for perspective. And I'd actually like to see some of those nude studies. -

Damn, I wish I could draw.

How long does a picture usually take? That face sounds like it took quite a while.
@TheCrystalShip:Damn, I wish I could draw.
My advice: Start doing it. You won't draw professionally but you'd be surprised what you could do with just line work.
-
Great picture Holy. In terms of accuracy, I would say the nose is a little too long which makes the proportions slightly off. The nostrils look a little odd too, but it isn't a biggie. There should also be slightly more shading on the right cheek based on the direction of the light (at least from what I presume is the direction of the light due to the shading around the right eye). In terms of stylization, looks great, keep on at it.

Good advice. One can't get better unless they simply start. However, it is a…long investment (unless you are like some sort of prodigy). Takes about a year to simply get stuff looking presentable imo, but it really depends on what you want to do with art. It is also visual training to look at "things" differently and learning ways in how others draw things. Kinda hard to put into words...
-
You really should just make a gallery or something of your nudes. Nothing shows how much you get better at sight drawing better than a bunch of boobies and weewees.
The head looks good right now, you should really look into the Proko head tutorials if you haven't already, and study the golden ratio along with it. Also for rendering, I haven't used manga studio, and probably never will, but CtrlPaint rendering tutorials should work either way. Learn where and when to have hard and soft edges, especially in the nose. It's probably the best site I've ever been referred to by Hiroy.
As for how long anything art related takes.. Imagine studying or painting for 90+ hours a week for money, or at least 14 hours as a hobby.

THANK YOU NEW SEMPAIS I TREASURE YOUR ADVICE

Thanks for these suggestions, I will be all over CtrlPaint and these Proko ones look really handy as reinforcement or rephrasing of the Loomis books I've been reading. I love having new tutorials or information to read up on and practice. Been eating them up cuz it's fun having one or three a day to spend a lot of time practicing, instead of just winging it and going "EH I'LL DO WHATEVER"

I've also been using this as a warmup since it's fun

Ooh, I like vague scheduling. 12 hours a day seems pretty killer obviously for a non-professional who doesn't need to, but then 2 hours a day at the moment seems incredibly short and tends to have me coming back not long after for more. I can try and aim for maybe 4-5 hours a day as somewhere inbetween. Study study
-
can you draw your perfect m who can handle your hair?
-
I love pixelovely. The class mode is amazing, though I still can't do digital gestures…it just something that confuses the hell out of me. Another really good study method is doing a full master copy, doing lets say an hour a day for around a month. Other things you can do are bargue plate copies. These were originally meant to be done traditionally in master schools, but a lot of people have been doing them digitally. They help a lot with value and lighting.
Most of all, you already know this, after each study, try to do it from what you remember, then use it in a character or something at the end of the day or week.
For me, recording or live streaming seems to help my workflow more. It helps a lot to see just how good or bad your process is to see if you need to work on it to become faster.

Pretty much agreed, although I was talking about art more for the experience than for professionalism.
Whenever I hear someone say 'I wish I could draw' my feelings are that you can draw for the sake of drawing and no matter how bad or sketchy it looks in the beginning it's still empowering to know that you can put a picture to something in your imagination. That might not always be the thought process though. In a professional sense I'm a bad example since I tend to only get better when I'm bored of being bad/simple.

Got watercolors and it turns out I fucking love them, I love watercolors I want to do nothing but watercolors for a while.
I made the mistake of free inking before referencing the outfit on google so the bottom half just kinda tapers off because I fucked up. BUT I FINISHED ANYWAYS BECAUSE WATERCOLORS RULE
-
oooh, i really like this. watercolors are really cool to play around with, and you look like you've having a lot of fun.
also, you can use salt or sponges to create texture in the watercolor painting!
-
Let's see how am I going to blend these colors…
Smashes canvas with a fucked up wet hammer
im....learn...ing?

Cute!!! He's a spooky guy

I loooove your watercolors!!

Watercolors are fun to work with because if you ever want to come back and work on a piece some more, you just add more water. The pallet can always be used even after it dries out completely. Depending on what kind of water colors you're using(pellets or tubes), you can try using less water for more of a heavier look to your pieces.
You can check out a bunch of James Gurneys water color videos for some of the techniques he uses, and it'll really help with adding more dimension to a piece.
One of them being gamut mapping.
Can't wait to see more watercolor work from you.
-
those were both really helpful to see how someone using these, since I was working off of no working knowledge. i hadn't thought about laying down a really thin base color across the board.
And I'm using tubes! I really like tubes, I remember using pellets as a baby kid messing around and that was less fun for me.

Boyfriend collab
We just kind of did it together at the same time and it came out gorgeous because we're conjoined at the hip. It's for a Fall Pokemon thing where people draw a grass type reimagined for autumn (or just inserted into an autumn theme)
-
Well, that's pretty good. It might even be pretty to a fallt.
Alright, I'm leaving…
