      Geez, it seems all the threads I make these days are Help threads….

      Now onto the problem.

      I currently have about 94 songs (divided into 5 different Playlists) on iTunes that I want to burn onto 5 different CD's (the CD's themselves are the standard 700 MB Sony CD-R). I have at my disposal two computers:the Windows Vista Toshiba Laptop that this is being typed on, and a Windows XP Home Computer that is very slow. I have iTunes installed on both of them. I first tried to burn the Playlists on the laptop multiple times, but each time was proven unsuccessful, because I always got the following message: "The attempt to burn a disc failed. An unknown error occured (2131)".

      This has happened previous times before, and I never really consider it a problem because I can usually burn the CD's on the Windows XP home computer. Not really knowing how to moves the playlists from the iTunes on my laptop to the iTunes on the home computer, I decided to try and transfer them via an 8GB HP Flash Drive (because sending all 94 songs to myself via Yahoo Mail would be excruciatingly tedious and time-consuming.) I thought that this method would work, so I put the songs on the Flash Drive. Sadly, even after transferring the songs to the home computer, I could not play or burn a single song, for I get this message for every song: "The song _____ cannot be played because the original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it?" with an explanation point in the leftmost column.

      Hence my problem. even though I can't burn the playlists on my laptop, I KNOW that I can do it on the home computer, for I've done it a few times before. I just forgot how I managed it those times.

      If anyone has any help, It would be greatly appreciated.

      Please.

        This may not be the best solution, but try this.

        iTunes has an option for you to save your entire library. You can generally do this to back it up or anything like that. When I bought a new desktop computer, I transferred all (at the time) 800 songs and put them into my new computer. It did give me the same, "Song does not exist" issue, but if it ever does, you have to reload the library. If anything, try to reload the transferred songs. Take note that there is a difference between transferring playlists and transferring libraries. Playlists generally hold the memory of the songs were sorted, but libraries hold the songs themselves.

        So:
        -Try to reload/save the songs you copied onto your home computer again.
        -If that fails, go to your labtop and save your library. Email it to yourself. I think you can upload the library and still have all the songs you previously had.

        Also:
        -If any of the songs on your laptop iTunes were previously purchased, you can download them from any computer using iTunes, as long as you're using the same account that you downloaded those songs with. Of course, if the songs are copied MP3s, then no, this won't work.

            Yeah, someone with a similar problem had to reload their Library. How would one do that? Not tech-savvy….

            None of these songs were purchased. Converted into MP3 format and put on iTunes via Video2MP3.

            94 songs that I want to burn, yes. In truth I have a little over 50 CD's (some bought, some burned); so I listen to a lot more songs than just those. These are 94 songs that I don't have on CD yet.

              Why are you using iTunes to burn them if they weren't bought with iTunes? I've always had problems burning CDs with iTunes.

                    considering that each CD has about on average 20 songs, that's 1000 songs. That's…..a lot?

                          Holy shit, I actually have over 1400. And I thought I had too many songs.

                          Then again, what's wrong with too much music.

                          I remember when I first got an iPod for my 17th birthday. I was in a temporary apartment and didn't have any access to any of my CDs. I could only download like…..20 songs, and I heard them on repeat about 50 times.

                          It's not so much 'tech-savvy' as much as it is 'iTunes-savvy'. I'm trying to find you a tutorial on it, but it's something you can easily do within iTunes. I believe it's under 'File' on the toolbar (if you have a PC, I have no idea what iTunes looks like on Mac >.>), where you can choose to upload/secure/save/store/….something your library. I wish I had iTunes in front of me, but I'm on my laptop.

                                It depends on what you want to do with it. A data disc is pretty much just the MP3 files on the disc and can only be played with a computer or something else that can play them. If you want to play them with a CD player than what you want is an audio CD.

                                  Burn it as a data cd and get a few hundred songs per disk. Then in the future you can just load it up to your computer and/or ipod from there.

                                  There's not much point in burning it as a music cd (which only holds 70 minutes of music) unless you actually plan to use a portable cd player… or drive in the car I guess.

                                  If you bought the actual songs from itunes, you're screwed, because they have layers of encryption BULLSHIT that make it harder to save/copy/play stuff you actually paid for, even with password verified machines. (Which is why I buy mp3s off Amazon.) If they're just songs you've uploaded to your computer, then don't bother trying to burn from itunes at all.

                                      What kind of crap is "100,000" songs

                                      I have a terrabyte of albums on my hard drive, that's what.

                                      I want to purchase music though and listen to things physically off the PC. Once I have more income saved up, I'm going to collect a library to slow convert my "digital" to actual.

                                          Woah @ all the replies….you guys have way too many songs. 😆

                                          @Sakonosolo:

                                          It depends on what you want to do with it. A data disc is pretty much just the MP3 files on the disc and can only be played with a computer or something else that can play them. If you want to play them with a CD player than what you want is an audio CD.

                                          Yeah, the point is to play them in my trusty-never-going-to-give-away CD player, so I'll try burning them through the Audio CD option now.

                                          @RobbyBevard:

                                          Oddly, I enjoy using a CD player a lot more than an iPod. Yeah, I have to change the batteries every so often and it can't hold a bajillion songs all at once, but when I'm not using it for travel purposes like putting it in the Car CD Player or my own personal hand-held CD Player, I can load the CD's into my own, private Panasonic SA-PM12 Mini Stereo System that I inherited from my Papa. That system is what I majorly use the burnt CD's for.

                                          @RobbyBevard:

                                          Like I said previously, None of these now 96 songs were purchased. I converted them into MP3 format, downloaded them and put them on iTunes via Video2MP3.

                                          @ Sankonosolo:

                                          Tried it, it looked like it was going to work, but unfortunately a few things happened:

                                          "Warning: The DMA Speed Test was skipped."

                                          "Inappropriate Audio coding in file: '/cygdrive/C/Users/Name/AppData/Local/Temp/Song Name.wav'

                                          and finally

                                          "Unable to automatically reload the media. Please try to reload it manually, then press OK."

                                          before the CD disc is ejected.

                                          --- Update From New Post Merge ---

                                          Which is very strange. I know that you can't play a .wav file (you have to convert it to an .mp3 file) But the damn song says its in .mp3 format and it plays like a baby on iTunes....they all do....

                                            Yeah, long before I had a terrabyte, like just 300 gigs of music, I was already being incredibly selective about what I had up (one giant Library was no good) and I ended up making playlists for each letter of the alphabet and it was still getting unwieldy trying to scroll through, so I'd just delete stuff I was unlikely to listen to in the face of newer/higher interest things.

                                            Which is terrible nuisance. Upkeep is so annoying manually, but no media player I have ever seen does it the way I want it done, or have really glaring faults and issues. God, basically all music players are kind of shitty, actually. There is flat out no great music media player on the PC.

                                                For srs.

                                                You'd think at least one of them would allow you to organize your playlists smartly! But I'm sure part of my problem is not deleting stuff I'll never listen to, 'cuz I'm a completionist like that.

                                                And also because people are always asking me "hey Silence I need spanish guitar music with no lyrics for this film project" and I'm like "I have 80 like that, you're gonna need to be more specific."
