On this newer computer, I reinstalled DosBox recently but I seem to have a problem. I don't appear to have a key that actualy does a "", the only way I can input it in DosBox is to press control and a button. However if I do that the program does write it, but ends the command line and jumps down a line without me being able to press enter or go back, thus buttraping the entiere mounting process.

I tried keytweek to remap it to something, but in that program it claims that the button I use already does it. So I tried remapping it to F12, and it didn't do anything.

      Any ideas ?

I use DOSBOX pretty frequently. If all else fails, you could just buy a USB keyboard.

But I would just make the \ using an alt sequence. If that's what you meant in your second sentence, then my bad.

The alt sequence is this: hold ALT while you press 92 on the num pad. If your computer doesn't have a numpad, you have to hold the Fn or Function key at the same time as ALT for this to work.

I booted up Wing Commander: Privateer perfectly doing this, and it works on keyboards without the , but it may not work for you for whatever reason. Hope it does.

What kind of keyboard to you have that you can't do \ ? Might work with / , or you can go to the character map (Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> Character Map) and copy and paste the \ from there.

Actually, I have a possible solution.

Change your locale to something like English US or English UK, and see how that works.

In Windows, I find when I change my locale to Japanese, the key-functions tend to get shifted around, like I get yen symbols instead of back-slashes. If DosBox is anything like VirtualBox, its keyboard drivers are supposed to be the same as your Windows machine, so if you change the Windows locale you might get something.

I haven't experimented with DosBox yet so I don't know with certainty of course, but it's something to try.

I had a similar problem where I would get the bracket ']' key when I pressed backslash '' on my keyboard. But from what I infer your problem is slightly different, so I'm not sure if this will work, but do give it a try.

You tried modifying the key mapping with keytweek and that failed, correct? Did you try changing the keymapping in DOSBox itself? The shortcut is Ctrl+F1

              • Once you press that this screen with pop up.

              !

              • Click on the backslash key as circled and marked as 1.
              • Now click on add at the bottom of the screen marked as 2
              • Now press the button you want to replace it on your keyboard. I chose 'home' key.
              • Save and exit as masked 3 and 4.

Hopefully this should do the trick and you get a '' everytime you press 'home' key or whatever other key you mapped it to.

Now, if this doesn't work, I fear you may have to mess with some registry files/hardware drivers or whatever. Here's a link I found that explains which files you need to deal with.
