The whole village was destroyed and Shackle's entire family was destroyed while helping him to escape. From that day on he swore to avenge the village and his family by killing everyone associated with the attack and will stop at nothing to make it happen.

When he did escape from the marine base he took a young boy with him as a hostage. If a pirate or person, however, is being attacked by the marines or just being treated unfairly in general, he will not hesitate to help them out (whether or not they are evil or good).

Past: Since she was a little girl Sil had always wanted to live forever (Forever as in living forever in peoples hearts). Her mother married into the wealthy Mari family. Unfortunately she commits suicide by eating a devilâ€
s fruit and jumping off a bridge (thus giving Sil her powers by giver her child one too). The poor thing never even cried when her mother passed in order to prover herself as not being soft. Her stepfather dies shortly after and she is left with her greedy stepmother. When the evil woman heard that Sil was getting the inheritance (even though Sil wouldn't even touch a filthy cent from the Meri family) instead of her she tried to kill the child. Long story short, Sil survived and decided the life of an arisicrat wasn't for her so she goes off to go after her childhood dream and become an "imortal". What better way to do that than to be pirate king! (Yes I said KING)

Skill: He has the ability to speed up the aging process in whatever part of your body he's touching. The body part will begin to rot away very quickly and fall off.
Past: He doesn't remember his past or how became what he is today. His name is known and feared by those that have seen his deeds. His poisonous blood makes for a great potion of genocide as he pollutes the water supplies of towns and pirate crews. He is credited with thousands of deaths but most say people don't live long enough around him to tally up his kills.
He met with Gold Roger years ago and Roger defeated him but let him live….Roger told him one thing before he let him go. "Let's fight again some day!" he said with a big smile and left him there in a puddle of his own disgustingly potent blood. The smell alone could render one unconscious.
He heard the news that Roger had died and since then has been searching for his incarnation. Rot is searching for the next D. As he walks by Water 7 he notices two floating bodies in the water and grabs them by their shirts as to not touch their flesh. He walks them to dry land and waits for them to wake up. Both seem to burst out of their comas. One swordsman and the other a fodder with a strawhat. The starwhat one then smiled and thanked Rot for saving them.

Abilities: Bake Bake Fruit; Assasination/Espionage; Jiji Kenpo
The enigmatic leader of the SONs (Saviors of Nations), a freelance organization that is frequently employed by both the World Government and the other individual governments (generally assasination and espionage). He has a seemingly care-free attitude, always walking around with a spring in his step. He also has a great admiration and respect for the other SONs, even if some of them think he's either crazy or senile. However, he always leaves a sudden chill and feelings of gloominess wherever he goes, which reflects his true nature. This is most likely due to the powers of the Bake Bake Fruit (Ghost Ghost), a Logia family fruit that allows him to turn his body into ectoplasm, giving him ghost-like abilities (flight, intangibility, possession). This, plus his mostly improvisational "Jiji Kenpo," makes him almost invincible in battle (although he prefers to use these abilities for espionage).
P.S.: I came up with the SONs (seven in total) before CP9 was revealed. So, any resemblance to them is purely coincidence (or simply unoriginality on my part).

I have a friend who would so love this topic. If/when I get her permision I'll put up some of her characters.
Meantime, here's a couple I made up for fanfiction.
Name: Leda
Age: Varies
Hair/Eye: Blond Hair, blue eyes.
Height: Average for a young woman
Skills: Her Devil's Fruit, Era-Era Fruit, allows her to change her physical age as she wishes. She can also create this change in others, but it takes far more concentration than doing it to herself.
Personality Traits: Mother-like. Loves children. She runs the Chibi no Mi Nursery. An orphanage on Redisca Island. While she takes on genuine orphans, she also uses her powers on people seeking a new lease on life (criminals on the run, people who've endured severe trauma, etc.).
**Other Details:**Created for the fanfic, Sitting on the Waves, I'd had the idea of the Baroque Workers from Little Garden finding their way to her while running away from the inevitable reprisal for failure. In the end though, I chose not to use it as it would've gotten in the way fo the actual story. Good thing too, as th enewest cover page story nullifed the idea.
Name: Nicoshi Kohato

Hair/Eye: Black hair, blue eyes
Height: Shorter than most her age
Personality: Kohato is a bright, energetic child. She tends to be quick on the uptake, figuring things out with only minimal clues. However, she can be hot-tempered, especially where her height's involved (she's sensitive about it). Like Robin, Kohato adores history above all else, and likely woudl have carried on her family's legacy of archaeology even if she'd remained ignorant of her past.
Skills: Hana-Hana Fruit (Inherited). Kohato gained her powers through genetic inheritance, rather than actually eating a Devil's Fruit. This creates a different set of rules from yoru average Devil Fruit muncher. She can swim, and seastone has less of an effect on her. However, overuse of her powers can actually exhaust her, where most DF users have little trouble in this regard.
Other Details:
Created for the Fanfic, Nest Egg, Kohato is the daughter of Nico Robin. Born when Robin was 21. Her lover, and Kohato's father, Adoyoshi Shuban died the day of Kohato's birth hiding Robin from pirates she'd betrayed. Kohato was raised by cousins, who raised her as their own daughter, trying to kep her heritage a secret. Kohato learned the full truth when she was seven when she was targed by a scientist studying the children of those who'd eaten Devil Fruit.
The friend I said would like this topic and I have toyed with the idea of creating stories centered on Kohato in late-teen/adulthood. My basic idea for a teen Kohato (age 17) was a girl with Robin's powers but a very different attitude/personality, due to a relatively normal upbringing. Taking after her father, who was a shopkeeper, Kohato starts an odd jobs business, putting her powers to good use. She did this as a child mostly to learn all kind of various skills and trades that could help her in the future, making her a sort of Jane of All Trades.
The name "Nicoshi" comes from combining Nico and Adoyoshi, her family names. "Kohato" simply means "Little Dove."

He stole Rigel's Devil Fruit, and used its power (making him rock hard) to dominate the ship. He abandoned it a month later, and after 4 years filled with countless fights, earned a bounty of 42 million at the age of 17. He completely vanished, and recently resurfaced near his old island of Risa Risa, in South Blue, to assemble a crew.

Hair: Black, slicked back

Skill: Paki Paki Fruit. He has the ability to turn into glass, shatter, and reassemble.
Traits: Cruel and clever. He has always been one, but he absolutely hates pirates, and will try to rob and murder any he feels he is able to.
Past: Shortly after being born, his town was raided, and he was given to "Jello" Rigel as a sacrifice. He was not killed, but raised, cruelly. Rigel had even tested a Devil Fruit on him. As a result, he became similar in mindset to those that brought him up. One day, another young man on the ship had killed Rigel and seized control. Blackburn was made first mate, but after only a month, the two had realized how much they hated each other and parted ways. Blackburn became a policeman on an island in between South and West Blue, but his love for bloodshed got him ran out after a year. He took to sea, killing and robbing small time pirates, while perfecting his Devil Fruit powers. Going through a list of bounties, he sees a child worth 100 Million Berry. He's sickened by the sight of a the smiling pirate, and seeks him out, to show him what being a pirate is.

Description: Average build. Ties his black hair back in a small ponytail. Has coal-black eyes and a thin, black mustache. Might be handsome, but has a constant sour look. Dresses like a 19th-century gentleman soldier, with a white topcoat and blue breeches. Keeps a red rose in his lapel, and always wears gloves. Keeps a seemingly ornamental rapier at his side, and a pistol in his pocket.
Abilities: Doku Doku Fruit; Fencing; Assassination; Rhetoric
The No. 1 assassin of the SON, Manos uses the vast wealth he inherited from his father to allow him to get close to any "high-society" targets. They all die soon after. This has given Manos an inflated ego, which he flaunts every chance he gets. Due to his wealthy upbringing, he tends to look down upon everyone else, including his associates. He believes that he should be the leader of the SONs, and believes that SON Vet is senile, but still respects his strength. His Doku Doku (Poison Poison) Fruit turned his body into a living poison factory, allowing him to create and secrete any poison from his body. Even the merest touch is enough to kill a person.

NAME: Tirsni (a.k.a. Tirsni the Dead-Eye)
AGE: 18
HAIR/EYE COLOR: Black/Green
SKILLS: Sharpshooter, brags that he couldn't miss if he tried. Devil's Fruit - Toka-Toka Fruit - Chameleon Model
PERSONALITY: Cocky, self-assured. Holds disdain for swords.
BACK-STORY: Originally created as a villain for Sitting on the Waves, Tirsni battled against Zoro to try and discover which weapon, gun or sword, was superior. Tirsni's sniper rifle failed before Zoro's 108 Pound Cannon attack. After the events of SotW, he sets out on his own.
I had a second fic idea where Usopp got to take him on, sharpshooter to sharpshooter. Only that time, Tirsni would have the pwoers ofa devil fruit backing him up. The Toka-Toka (Toka=Lizard) Fruit, Chameleon model. Tirsni can turn into a lzard and control his coloring, but if he gets angry or otherwise emotional, he loses that control and his colors change to refelct his emotions.

She absolutely hates pirates. Even more so because her sister, Oceania, has become one; in turn disgracing the family name.

Being a pirate doesn't help her either. Basicly, she goes from crew to crew to do her research. Iratable at times because she hasn't had a good sleep in over four years. She doesn't drink coffee; instead she eats the coffee beans.

Abilities: Inu Inu Fruit (Tanuki Model); kendo; espionage
The youngest of the SONs, Panda is a extremely cheeful person who loves physical activites, especially kendo. Because of this, she is extremely strong for her age, even without her Devil Fruit. While she enjoys fighting, she refrains from killing her targets due to personal choice, and always pays respect to her fallen foes. Of course, his super layback style ended up in his crew dumping him off on a small island near the end of the Grand Line. Narcissistic to its original definition, Satinâ€s own flesh and blood, swav, smooth, and seductive like a jawbreaker between red sugared lips. Always seen quivering. Addicted to cigars and women and you better not mess with her coffee.
Story-This life of darkness started when her father was murdered, before her own eyes, by her mother after catching him in the act abusing their children (This is probably one of the reasons why she isnâ€t too fond of the opposite gender). Her mother was executed for the murder leaving Nera an orphan. Threw ought her childhood anything she grew attached to would slowly and slyly destroy it with the out most cruelness. Her younger sister suffered such a fate by her siblingâ€s hands, a fate that cannot be spoken of, not even to this day.
Unlike most baddies, being on top of the world doesnâ€t tickle her fancy. Itâ€s the a high and rush that keeps her blood pumping and slaughter gives her a high that not even cigars, women, and coffee can give her. She shook up the ground so bad the earth swallowed up two villages with one gulp. She was a pirate once, even was the captain of her very own crew. All of them were loyal too. Even had a blind girl with as a first mate who was also her lover. But she murdered them, all of them, for killings sake. You would think she makes death into an art form. Surprisingly or not, despite her few in years she is a candidate for the Seven (or should I say six) Gods of Pirates. The reason is that with such a power as hers, the government needs to leash her somewhat.
I may a bit late with to reply in this thread, but better late then never. So here´s my character:
Name:
I haven´t thought of an adecuate name so far, since my thoughts were dwelling only about what the entire idea of this character is and not how he should be called.
Team:
This character is supposed to be a member of the Strawhats. He would be the “priestâ€? of the ship. Donâ€t shout at me let me first explain what I had in mind.
The Age:
I think having him somehow around 21 years would be fitting for a young priest. He would be a little older then most of the Strawhats but still a youngling who has much to learn.
Basic Idea:
Labeling him as a priest is not intended to mean that his purpose for sailing is a crusade or that he´s some sort of missionary. NO! What I had in mind while creating him is that in pirate stories there´s much story material based on mystic powers. For example, ghost ships, cursed treasures etc. And my priest is actually a character who could deal with such things.
My character is actually more some kind of priest-monk-medecineman-magician-combo.
Let´s say if the Straw Hat´s should ever encounter a ghost pirate crew, he would be the only one to defeat them because the strong Luffy, Zoro and Sanji might be, they can´t kill dead people.
His Aim:
I always had the idea that there´s more to the Devil Fruits then we know so far. So this character´s aim would be to find the origin of the Devil Fruits. Since he is a priest and many people get hurt by evil DF users his aim would be to search for a way to either counter or permantentally remove the DF powers from an evil DF user.
I didn´t think of an adecuate backstory so far, but I think in his past something must have happened to make him wish to be first (the best) priest to stop DF´s powers being used to hurt innocent people.
Skills:
Now for the interesting part. When it gets to fighting the opponent then he is the only one of the Strawhats who could defeat a ghost or a demon. Luffy, Zoro and Sanji couldn´t do anything against them because in my book ghosts and demons can´t be harmed by mere mortals. The weapon of he uses would be (hold your breath) a fan!
But what would a Strawhat Pirate be without some large flaws? His would be his fighting skill. While as a priest he has great potential to defeat ghosts etc. his human fighting skill would be somewhere between Usopp in the Kuro arc and Chopper in the Drum arc. That means whenever he fights normal guys he would get beat up which brings me to my next point…
Character:
Among the Strawhats he would be the very calm voice of reason like some sort of a ships councelour BUT of course with the temper of a true Straw Hat Pirate, meaning even he would kick Luffy´s ass if he bother´s him too much. But when this would happen he would do it in some “religious� kind of way. For example punching Luffy while saying “May your sins be forgiven� (or something like that).
He would be one of the “wiser� crewmembers, but at the same time he would have a very bad sense of knowing his own limits. For instance, if the Strawhats get into a fight with lots of opponents he would bravely follow Luffy, Zoro and Sanji into battle only to get the crap beaten out of him, because he´s completely useless when it gets to fight humans (remember fighting power between Usopp and Chopper). That would be one of his comedy parts.
Other then that I intend him to be the cute boy of the Strawhats, meaning that the ladies of One Piece tend to find him hot (though they wouldn´t molest him like Sanji does when he sees a hot lady). But since he is a young priest he wouldn´t even care about how attracted the ladies feel towards him, which makes him only sexier to the female gender. This would make for great interactions with Sanji, since he would always be pissed that a guy who doesn´t care for women gets all the attention.

Well that´s it actually. I don´t think that I´ve forgotten something. Actually I when I first thought about the character I thought he would be a possible future creation of Oda. But then my own idea of him became more and more developed until I realized that it is just wishful thinking of me to have such a guy in One Piece. So I have to admit this guy´s definitely just my own creation and nothing that we will ever see in OP.
As far as the picture above is concerned. In order to have a One Piece character I thought it would only be fitting to include “original� Oda artwork. The pic consists of two characters from Oda´s oneshot “Ikki Yakou�. The body is from the main character, a young unexperienced priest (sound familiar?).
The head belongs to a guy who plays the forrest god. That´s the reason why the face and hair don´t really fit the clothes designwise. Actually I just made this photo as visual reference for my character. You should all see the basic idea behind the character´s design. He should have an attractive face, but a priests outfit. Here´s the some more pictures of the forrest god´s face aswell as the true pic of the young priest.
