I put this idea up on the One Piece Podcast's Facebook wall yesterday and I thought I'd share it here.
With the 15th anniversary of One Piece coming up next year, I propose we as the fanbase here in the states should do something big, something big enough to reach the man himself. I'm proposing OPERATION: ARIGATOU MUGIWARA, a fan book from the American fans of One Piece to Oda with items ranging from cosplay photos to fan art to just plain letters of gratitude and congratulations from fans, the American voice cast and crew for the series and the manga and maybe even celebrity One Piece fans if it's at all possible to be done.
The idea has been done before for CLAMP about two years ago to great effect, I think it would be something Oda and the publishers at Shueisha would appreciate. Now, mind you, I have no idea how we would go about doing this, no knowledge about how to get into contact with Shueisha and very little contact with the English cast and crew (I did meet J. Michael Tatum once earlier in the year, but that's about the extent of my contact with FUNimation. With Viz I have zero.) I'm hoping if I can get enough support here and on Raftel, I might get help from the people who would know how to get in touch with them (namely OPP).
