I was curious to know how people on this Board feel about people using terms from the American Manga and/or Anime, such as "Gum Gum", "Zolo", "Curs-ed Fruit".

It seems most of those terms sort of "rot away" as you expose to the fandom. I see Gum-Gum and know they mean Gomu Gomu no, and Zolo becomes Zoro. Nobody seems to use 'Cursed fruit', perhaps cos Devil Fruit sounds more ominous.
As long as people don't do stupid things, like insist belligerently that it's Zolo, nobody seems to mind.

Well, it depends. I prefer the Japanese in all cases, but some English translations I mind more than others.
"Gum-Gum" sounds silly IMO, because it makes me think of chewing gum, but I guess it's closer to the original than saying "rubber-rubber".
Zolo - well, we all love that one, don't we? That's not an issue of Americanizing it, it's just that apparently somebody decided that kids were too stupid to distinguish Zoro from Zorro. It's been established that there is no copyright issue. It's just a pointless change.
Cursed Fruit was changed most likely because some paranoid parents might hear "devil" and think "OMG the show's evil, Luffy ate fruit of the Devil!" I don't see how cursed is any better, but whatever.
What I find strange is that they actually leave Zoro's attacks in Japanese. o_OBasically, if the change makes sense, I can deal with it. If it is pointless, than it bugs me. I don't ever use the English versions, and I never will.

I feel the same as Cosmic. Gum Gum just… doesn't sound right with me. Same thing with Chop Chop (Bara Bara, Buggy's fruit), and so on.

Well Gum-Gum does not bother me but it won't hurt saying the Japanese term. I still use "Devil fruit" "Gomu-Gomu" and "Zoro" because it's a real name.

Some people are more sensitive about the US terms than others. It's nothing I'd get irate over and jump down the throat of the person using them unless that person was trying to shove it down everyone else's throats or being obnoxious about it. Frankly, I don't think people on either side should act that way, though, it's just such a relatively minor thing to get worked up over. So yeah, you can use them, but most of us use the Japanese versions of names and terms.

Well said, ya know I'm a member on alot of DragonBall boards & you'd be surprised how mad people get at people who say "Krillin" (his name is acctually Kururin). But I totally agree with you, people should just let it be.

Personally, I prefer Gum Gum Fruit. For most of the other Fruits, I prefer the original, but Gumo Gumo just sounds odd to me. Probably because I just encountered Gum Gum first in Viz; the rest of them I first encountered in Stephen's translations so I use the Japanese names for those. It's my own private way of seperating Luffy from the herd.
Zolo… I'm not bothered by it so much having gotten used to it; that and many of the complaints against the usage of it have put me staunchly in the "it doesn't matter" camp. I was never really bothered by so much as I bothered by Viz's retconning of it and dismissal of questions/complaints about it. I prefer Zoro as that's what Oda intended, but other people using Zolo is fine by me.
Devil Fruit just sounds better to me than Cursed Fruit, largely because the latter smacks of "We don't want to offend stupid people".

It isn't that "'Devil Fruit' sounds better," it's the fact that it's the actual translation of the phrase.

I wish they'd keep the original elements intact, but them's the breaks. Sanji's use of 'crap' in the manga kinda irks me though, because I always saw 'kuso' as being a harsher word than that. His harsher phrasing comes with his character, so using a toned-down curse makes him sound wierd to me. I mean, 'crap' is such an immature phrase :/. It doesn't really suit him as much…
I don't mind the other changes that much though, even if reading 'Zolo' makes me shake my head D:
