I'll admit.
My interest in anime and manga over the years has been diminishing.
Too many tired and true tropes and rehashed plots and character types.
That being said…
...there's still that one basic feeling of excitement and enjoyment that ALWAYS permeates my cynicism and jaded outlook.
It's really one of the most basic elements of ANY shonen battle series or even most any action series...
And that's characters punching shit.
Not just any sort of punch. Not as a part of a battle... no...
...but as an unforgettable moment. A checkpoint. A point on a timeline.
1940- A country was thrown into civil war
1943- A peace treaty was signed
1944- A great bridge was constructed
1944- War erupted again
1945- Kamura punched a tank into a mountain
1945- Peace was restoredWhether it's a barrage of punches that lifts some poor sap off the ground. A punch that sends someone into another zip code. Or a meaningful last ditch punch that dramatically turns the fight.
Or in King Elizabello II's case.... a punch that erupts like a military grade weapon.
It never gets old for me... and it's fucking awesome.

Just on their own merits, I honestly like both characters alright, but am not really crazy about either of them. Campaigns aside, if I were to vote for one or the other, it would actually likely be the King.
That said, the campaigns are what make these tournaments as amazing as they are, to me. With that in mind, there's just no way that I can't vote for Smiley, considering just how much effort is obviously being put into the campaigning for him. A vote for Smiley is a vote for the very spirit of this tournament!
