@jackvance:
I think Luffy had every right to say that.. Usopp had been gravely insulting him, calling him a 'fake captain' and heartless etc..
That sounds like it comes right out of a self-help book on social skills =) Not very realistic if things get as heated as they did back there..
Ah come on, even Taboo said that this was not the Luffy we knew and loved; why else does Sanji kicked him in the face?
Because Luffy was OOC, he does not have to say that. Remamber Luffy loves his nakama, it's weird to see Luffy who longed been friends with Usopp and he had loved him and all of the sudden Luffy pinned Usopp to the floor so hard it got to hurt with Luffy being unforgivible to him: telling him if he don't like it then he can just leave.
That's when Sanji went apeshit and kicked him across the room, telling Luffy to watch his words. Luffy tries to apologize but Usopp got all silly saying that he quit the crew and demanded a dual to keep the ship. Usopp did not treat the ship because it belonged to Kaya but because Usopp sees the ship as a person.
Instend of confessing to Luffy or telling him his opition or commuticate with Luffy he decided to leave "cuz he was weak". Usopp thinks he should stay behind with the ship while Luffy gets stronger people.
Usopp chose the most dumbest move I ever saw, Luffy chose him as a friend and Luffy don't even care how strong Usopp is; yet Usopp thougth Luffy chose him depanding on strength and not understanding full about friendship, he thinks friendship is just power.
Yet Luffy also did a wrong thing, he should had just ask Usopp to rest and explian him the details before deciding to find a new ship, plus he misuntermated Usopp.
I no longer believe in character termination, once Oda say that one person will leave the ship; I pretty sure Oda is careful not to give out to much details decided to speak riddles. But every fans should know, Oda does not want to waste any of the character, Oda has all time meant olny the ship and the ship is now in the ocean and the so-called character termination was over for Oda meant that the Klabutermann will leave the ship.
The dual was differant, due to commutcation problems and friendship problem; both deserve a smack in the face which will play an important role later that both Luffy and Usopp learned from the errors of their ways.
After the dual what happened to these two?
Usopp stayed behind with an bad attitude and a rude nature, Luffy sits on the hotal roof hance he became gothic and cold
Usopp continue to fix the ship, he was later taken in by Franky; was Usopp being nice? No, he was rude and mean to Franky, when Franky tried to dismantal the ship Usopp tried to defand the ship, not caring Franky was trying to him see the hard way like a friend; Franky does not want Usopp to throw his life away by sailing on the ship that will die.
Franky had to throw Usipp in the water to see the ship bottem; yet Usopp already know about but still fix the ship, when Franky protest Usopp rudly told him to shut up yet he confessed it.
When the CP9 were outside the door, Franky tried to tell Usopp to go back to his friend yet Usopp got stubborn again telling Franky "Not now, I'm still not done with the ship and I had a fight with my captain, I'm not their friend anymore".
Franky told him he should understand already, he also told Usopp he'll keep the ship safe and sound.
These two got into an cliche argument, Franky tells Usopp that it won't go to heaven while Usopp says "Tell me if you have a friend dying and your friend says 'let me die' would you accept it!?!" And Franky blared out "Your changing the subject" Usopp repiled "I'm not changing the subject! That is the point!".
Bam the CP9 broke in and they hounded Franky, Usopp has to stand there and watch the dark event unfold while the CP9 completley ignored him. Usopp could had run during this but he did not, he has to watch the CP9 demanding Franky to hand over the blueprints. When they bundled up Franky Usopp was like "Hey! Let him go!…..sorry".
Kaku realized him: Kaku; "Are you one of these straw hat crew?" Usopp; "I'm their crew anymore but I'm still a pirate!" Kaku bitchslapped him while Fanky looks in awe, Kaku yanked Usopp by the throat, Kaku; "You said your not their crew anymore but your still a pirate? We still have to arrest pirates" Kaku lets him go, told Kalifa to detain him while he saw the ship, Kaku decide to throw the ship in the ocean while Usopp was protesting Kaku not to do it.
Kaku was stubborn to listen because he's the shipwright. When Usopp was bundled up and was been taken to the Sea Train, Usopp was shouting while Sanji was in the alley, watching, Sanji; " 'Sorry for the trouble' up my ass, he's still causing trouble even after leaving the crew".
He then snucked in the ship, freed Usopp and Franky after the recent commotion. Sanji then heard the truth from Nami via Phone Snail about Robin. Sanji has to tell Usopp that Robin wanted to sacraifice 6 lives in order to save them from an buster call, Robin never knew about the fight between Luffy and Usopp, when Franky asked Usopp to join, Usopp refuse because "he quit the crew."
Yet Usopp at that point was lying he slowly start to understand the errors of his ways, he left but came back as the Sogeking, stiil embarressed by the pervious events, he even had to slip back the mask when it fell off, yet he tries to convice Robin to trust Luffy as dual effect is slowly working. While Luffy is gothic, angery and cold.
He never smiles that day, he does not have the same passion when it comes to figthing "I WON'T DIE!". When Nami told him the truth about Robin, he sets his mind on her and he started to brigthen up, when he saw the Sogeking he was unware it was Usopp, Luffy even asked him in a worried look "Usopp! Wher did he go?" It seems that these two will easliy forgive each other
