Kuro's disappearance

Rereading Volume 5, I can't see how Captain Kuro's "disappearance" act ever got off the ground.

Okay, you brainwash someone to claim he is Kuro, and someone else to claim he's captured the first person. Still, when he goes to turn the fake-Kuro in, wouldn't someone look at the wanted poster, and immediately dismiss the fake? He looked nothing like the real Kuro except for the outfit.

I sort of wonder what happened to the "capturer" too.

If it were that easy, why wouldn't you see pirates all the time dredging out a corpse to give to a (not obviously related) associate, who then turns it in for the bounty on their head? It would be the perfect way to milk the World Government… claim a few million beri from them, stay low for a little while, then re-emerge, forcing them to reissue the bounty, repeat.

That was axe-arm Morgan? It wasn't mentioned to be him as that chapter of the story played out. I guess I'll have to re-read volume 1 and check it. It sort of explains the mouth plate thing.

The guy looked a little bit like Kuro. But you're right, he didn't look enough like Kuro to be able to decieve the government like he did.

I'm sure that many other pirates could've done the same as Kuro. But they all love to be well known and feared by the public. I also believe that most other pirates are just not as smart as Kuro. Could Buggy or Don Krieg ever pull off something like this? Probably not.

Being that we never see a Kuro bounty poster…...maybe all they had was a rough sketch?

Considering that Captain Morgan was hypnotized also, I guess he insisted that he was Kuro. Also, who would really want to stand in and be executed for someone else? You have a marine insisting it's him, and a pirate insisting he's him.

Well I donÂ´t know but when I see a marine ship that has been harvested by Captain Kuro with just one survivor, this surviror tells everyone that it was Kuro who did it and that he captured him and then the captured guy claims to be Kuro himself and says that he killed everyone aboard then I would sure believe that this guy is the real Kuro.

I mean why would anyone who has just been captured commit all this crimes if he isnÂ´t the real one? Note IÂ´m speaking from a point of view where IÂ´m not familiar with the possibilites of hypnosis.

So if the guy says he is Kuro and even dies for it, then I wouldnÂ´t doubt him, but I would definitely doubt the picture on the wanted posters to be fake.

Normally you can't make someone go against their principles with hypnosis. You can make em bark like a dog, but not commit suicide. So what they made that guy do isn't realistic.. but then again, making guys turn uberstrong with hypnosis isn't possible either, so whatever ;)

I don't think the line of thought "that's not realistic" is really valid when talking about One Piece. XD

right, so Jango could make Don Krieg look like Kuro through Hypnosis in OP if Oda so chose…

Yeah, I kinda covered that with my last sentence, but if you take the premise of the Devil Fruits existing as true, Oda seems to make an effort to make everything as realistic as he can without ruining the story.

(what I mean by that last statement is that Oda uses some sort of semi-realism which is atleast on the surface realistic.. rubber being an isolator and resisting Eneru's lightning is a good example of semi-realism.. true realism would mean that the extreme voltage used overcharges the rubber and melts it.. but Luffy dying in skypiea woulda ruined the story..)

I guess if Oda says it was Morgan, it was Morgan. But I went back and reviewed Volume 1, and he never says anything of it. Indeed, his choice of words makes it look like he's spent many years working up the ranks at the base. Though, I suppose, handing in Kuro could be a great way to do so. I would sort of love to see him now, already spiritually defrocked by having been beaten by Luffy, run into Jango who reveals the horrible truth that his past and the rank he held so dear were based on a lie. It would make for good fanfic.

Okay, we're in speculationland now, cos I haven't seen that part of the manga yet. He doesn't break the truth to him. I wonder what that means.

Option 1: He's not as dumb as you'd think. Morgan could probably rearrange his anatomy if told that.

Option 2: He doesn't recognize him.

Option 3: He has some mercy for the surely already tortured enough Morgan

Somehow, I can picture Morgan in that point wearing the standard white uniform of a low-ranking Marine, and with the axe replaced by a mop.

They don't even see each other, but just sail on past each other after having escape their respective foes; Jango ran away from the Usopp Pirates and Morgan escape Admiral Garp's forces.

Oda said it in one of his SBS that the marine officer was Morgan.

Ah. I interpreted it as "they passed by in a hall". I envisioned both were captured fairly quickly after their appearance, and spent some time in a prison awaiting tribunals.

I could sort of tell it was Morgan when it showed him getting his jaw stepped on,.. once that happened, the only thing I could think of was "Morgan has an iron jaw… thats got to be him.."
