Ok I really feel like a little kid that´s contantly complaining if something isn´t to its liking but I just have voice my opinion since I feel so deeply disappointed with the anime lately. Sorry if it´s annoying to some.

Ok that cleared up I just have to say it. I can´t believe how much on crack some guys at Toei must be. I mean so far I experienced occacional letdowns on the field of artwork, animation, extensive recaps, brainless filler scenes and lately even about regressive voice acting. But is that enough for Toei? No, they just have to show how many new ways of screwing up ones esthetic reception of fantastic can be found. This time it´s by poor choice of sound effects. To be precise it´s the sound Choppers feet make while he is running around in human mode. I mean it sounds as if a giant mecha is loose in the Judicial Tower. What the hell? Is this Neon Genesis Evangelion meets One Piece or what?

I know to most of you this might not mean much but to me it certainly spoils a lot of the fun if you choose sfx that are completely unfitting to the scene. I mean what has to go through someone´s mind to even think of that being a proper sfx to humanoid bare feet running around? It is lacking any proper logic.

I actually liked Chopper's footstep sfx in this episode. Is it realistic? No. But, neither is the sfx for his footsteps when he is in half human half reindeer form.

I don´t know what that has to mean. Is it less valid to be disappointed in sfx then in animation when I watch an anime or what? Some enjoy animation, others enjoy soundtracks, others again colors and yet others the voices and yes, there´s even people who enjoy sfx if they are good. And I like to enjoy all of them if they are properly done, that´s what my esthetic reception of an animated movie is.

And if somebody does a poor work on it then he/she spoils this very esthetic reception of it. It´s a simple as that. And yes if a humanoid makes a sound as if he´s a robot when he´s walking then something is definitely wrong. Don´t blame me if I notice what´s done wrong. I´m not a yes-man and if something is lacking logic then I have the god given right to feel disappointed and spoiled.

But apparantly I will probably even get laughed at if I point out that a Gear power up will sound like a light sabre. :getlost:

Dude, I know what you mean… And yeah, I noticed that about big Chopper's footsteps... .I thought it was strange, but I didn't put much thought on it XD

But there is a lot that can be said about the anime, because some of us wish it would live up to the awesomeness of the manga. But obviously, due to time constraints, budget, etc... that doesn't always happen, and I'm ok with that. I'm not going to boycott the anime just because the animation sucks most of the time, or they have too much filler or whatever. But still, I did think that what Ivotas pointed out is true.

Yeah I´m not going to boycott it either. I myself am more of an anime person then a manga person because I think that this medium can thanks to the usage of sounds (including voices, music and sfx) make scenes much more emotional then a manga could possibly ever do. And the OP anime has times and again shown that it CAN live to that expectations. For me Choppers farewell scene or Crocodile´s defeat are prime example for that theory.

If I complain then it´s not because I hate Toei with a passion or something like that, but because they already have shown that they can do One Piece justice but half ot the times they don´t do it which is a disappointment if you think of what could be possible.

You´re right about budgets pirateneko and that´s why I often stay quite about bad animation. But if somebody does something completely against the idea of the creator (this is actually a german saying) then it makes me wanna puke because that is not what one would actually expect. :sad:

Cancelled? Gundam Seed had a constant rating of 5s and it still spawned Destiny. OP is one of the strongest brands in Japan (and elsewhere) and you think it’ll be cancelled? An 8.0 rating is awesome, insane, spectacular, basically what everyone wants. It’s more like the opposite, Toei’s getting complacent because they know people will even watch Zoro sleeping all day as long as it has the One Piece name on it.

I actually wouldn’t mind if Toei stops production after the current arc’s over and restart 2 years later with the title One Piece: The New World.

Well it´s not that I´m stressed with it but I find it always a bit of…weird if somebody complains about comlaints. I mean it´s like kicking someone because you dislike the person being violent. You don´t solve the problem by adapting the same behaviour, you become part of it.

Well here I disagree. It most definitely is done wrong and has nothing to do with interpretations. If in the 287th episode it is the first time that Choppers makes such a walking sound, when he never did it before then it is a glitch because it doesn´t concur with the previous incarnations.

I think the whole problem here is because were talking on area of sounds. If we would for instance talk on the area of colors then it might be easier to understand what I mean. Let´s say that for instance in the same scene Chopper´s furr would have been colored violet instead of brown. This would clearly be a mistake by the colorist because it goes against everything that we´ve seen of Chopper in the anime so far. And all explenations of the colorist for it to be his personal interpretation couldn´t excuse that it would be a screw up.

The very same thing applies for the sfx. A flesh doesn´t make a metallic sound on stone. It is definitely a wrong usage of sfx and no explenation based in interpretation could be a valid excuse for a screw up.

I didn´t mean to offend anyone by saying I noticed it while others didn´t. I´m just trying to explain that I don´t search by force for mistakes but that they really sting me in the eye (well here it is the ear) when I simply lay back and want to enjoy a new episode. It´s actually cool, if it doesn´t strike you because that way you have much more fun by watching the episode then me. But my personal reception of the anime has nothing to do with it that the sfx is an objective screw up. The only subjective component here is to care about it or not.

Haha, wow, I wish you guys were animators. You'd lose your jobs in minutes.

I'm pretty anal about the anatomy on my own animations, but there comes a point in production where you have to let it go or youre never going to push anything out the door. One thing for me when I dont have a weekly deadline for 18 minutes of animation in HD no-less now, but I now respect anime animators a lot more.

I used to guffaw at the horrendous D-Team animators that did DBZ in between episodes, but after animating stuff like dust explosions and so forth myself, I am humbled.

Holding the anime accountable directly to the manga artwork just isn't fair in any way. Oda draws the manga, while animators have to try their best to clone his individual style for thousands upon thousands of individual frames. Nevermind also that their focus is probably less on the "setup" episodes that we're currently in, but the crazy insane fight finisher episodes down the line. The fights havent really started yet even, considering the opponents arent all correctly matched up yet. Egh, just had to get this off my chest after reading silly complaints for several pages.

On the flip side, I am angry that Toei chose to delay the current events through tedious ancient flashback episodes rather than actually maybe doing one or two of the title-page arcs, considering Oda has shown that they often have critical relevance later on in the story.

Yeah, I see what you mean. There are a few episodes that were animated so well, I wish they could keep that consistency… Like you said, Chopper's farewell and Crocodile's defeat were done really well! In fact, when I look back at it, the Drum Island arc had some really nice animation. A few episodes in Alabasta did, like Zoro and Mr. 1's fight.... I noticed Zoro was drawn differently, and I LOVED that look for him, though I was disappointed that the very next episode had crappy animation =(

Omg I know, I hate when anime goes against what the creator intended! If I was a mangaka, I think I'd be pissed too. But I'd say that Toei is doing a good job on One Piece with keeping it pretty close to the manga, despite the funky animation XD

I just finished watching 288. I'll let the experts comment on the animation, but I think it's my favorite out of the CP9 fight episodes so far. Chimney's reactions to Luffy (almost drowning, Gear Third, chibi form, etc.) were so cute. I loved the music they played when Franky powered up with cola (it may have been used before, but I didn't recognize it). Also, it seemed like the recap at the beginning was considerably shorter than in the past few eps.

Very good episode, probably the best after the recaps. Franky vs Fukurou is awesome as it should be, and the power up at the ending was well done.
I must say, Kazuki Yao performance get better each episode, the interaction between Franky and Chopper was made of win, just hilarious all the way.
Oh, and Toei added a little scene of Calipha undressing. How naive of me, thinking they would tone down the fanservice!

SUPA episode! Loved it.
And again, I'm loving the music…the one that pkayed during the Gear 3 scene was awesome.

Also, the way they added the Kalifa getting naked scene makes me think TOEI will give the Nami Kalifa fight to their hentai division...if they have one! XP
