Most Addictive Anime/Manga

Whats that anime/manga that you get severely addicted to?
Like…To the point where you literally do nothing else during all of your freetime until you watch/read all of it...

For me, Hajime no Ippo was probably one of the most addictive ones. I think I watched every episode and read all of the manga in about a week and a half. I dont think any other anime/manga series has ever made me that happy though (aside from One Piece, of course).

Berserk caused me to become a recluse for about two weeks. It also caused me to be depressed and want to die though.

I read all of Holyland in a day.

Vinland Saga was done in a day too.

What are some series that are nearly impossible to walk away from?

One Piece. The anime was my first exposure to it and during Skypiea I'd watch 10 episodes every day in the summer, in front of my big TV sitting on the floor peacefully. Glorious times those were.

Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind. It's one of those where you feel like you're committing a sin by putting it down after a certain point.

Lots more honestly, manga is a really good medium.

Lucifer and the biscuit hammer had me pretty hooked, but that isn't a super long series, so the time I spent on it isn't really comparable to other series. I read Hajime no Ippo when it was about 950 chapters in about a week, but I actually could have finished it faster as I wasn't reading non stop. I've marathoned a lot of anime and manga though, so thinking of every example would take a while

I once skipped a midterm exam because I was in the middle of reading the Golden Age Arc of Berserk, lucky for me I got a flu afterwards , perfect chance to obtain a doctor's note.

So, there's Berserk.

Dragonball, Slam Dunk, One Piece, D grayman at some point, Hiatus X Hiatus, Neuro, Dorohedoro are only a few that really got me addicted to glued to my chair.

Berserk I suppose. Every time I start reading it, maybe absent-mindedly see a page or something, I can't help but going on for hours.

Its One Piece for me. Animes aren't much popular where I live and most of my friends don't even know what a manga is. All I watched was dragonball/Z, pokemon, naruto and some others. Unfortunately, one piece never aired here.
I started reading one piece a little less than two years ago and read all those chapters in about 16 days. Sometimes when I'm free I go and reread old arcs.

I'd say the only series I really look forward to at the moment is Animal Land (Doubutsu no Kuni). I just love the story despite the main character's dream being way too romantic (basically world peace, but among all animal species in a planet with only a couple of humans left) and the author re-using ideas of his previous work (Gash Bell). I also don't care about not understanding japanese while checking the raws of the latest chapters because it's one of those stories that's really easy to comprehend if you have read it from the beginning. It's a world full of different animal species that can't understand each other so there's really not that many actual conversations to begin with. And once I started reading the translations of Kewl, which you can check in Mangahelpers, and Stephen, who is the one translating the series for Kodansha USA, I noticed that there were only a few key plot points that one could miss due to not understanding what's in the text bubbles.

It's also one of the first series I've felt like buying because it's the kind of story I'd love my children to read someday.

My only real beef with the series is that Raiku relies way too much on flashbacks to flesh out his characters right before their deaths, but that doesn't keep me from enjoying the recent fights between the main character's animal companions and man-made monsters:

There are mangas designed to be basically like a drug, and you need to know more and more. In that aspect, Naoki Urasawa is the absolute master, specially by the way he constantly sets cliff hangers everywhere and mysteries keep piling. Kinda like Lost or Game of Thrones.

20th Century Boys is basically crack made manga. I couldn't stop. The ending left a bittersweet aftertaste, though (the build up, the cliff hangers and the developement are top notch; the climax, not so much.)

Same kinda happens with Pluto, although that one had an even weaker ending.

(Curiously enough, Monster, which is Urasawa's masterpiece, felt far less addictive to me, and even felt like dragging at parts; but it is, undoubtedly, the superior work. Weird.)

From the mangas I'm currently reading, Dorohedoro fits the description to a T. It's so damn addictive! Once you start, you can go on for hours.

And of course, One Piece, but that is out of the question.

Well, since the scanlation got its pace, I started reading from the start again (read it before when the first scanlation popped-out) and finished 4 volumes in one go and just really made me crave for more. And I actually just read the bulk release of volume 7 a while ago and even though it's an end-of-the-arc volume I just can't help but want to read more.:sad:

Really a great series for me. Great art, very excellent storytelling, lots of action, lovable characters, twisted plots and political schemes OHYES!

YEAH, sirously people who have not read Kingdom should do it NOW! History battle manga with crazy but not supernatural fights! its great. I picked up Kingdom several days ago, and I'm already a fan.

Gonna mention Soul Eater, as I remember reading up to chapter 90 or so in a single day after watching the first half of the anime(I heard the anime had a dumb ending).

Slayers is also like crack, especially to a nerd like me who is into RPGs and high fantasy of all kinds.

I'm planning on watching through Galaxy Express 999 soon, I'm hoping that series is addicting considering it's over 100 episodes and it'll prolly take me all decade to finish.

I got hooked on Billy Bat, after Judas appeard. It just fascinated me how in this manga many characters are people that really existed, though I haven't noticed that Shimoyama was already one of them back then.

So right now it's pretty much One Piece, Toriko and Billy Bat, I get hyped up most for, though the Promised Day in Fullmetal Alchemist also just kept me on reading.

Anime : Kaiji (season 1). I made the mistake of starting the "bridge" bet at 11pm. I ended almost pulling an all-nighter to finish the season.

Manga : 20th Century Boys is a good candidate. When you start it, it's hard to find a good point to stop.

Right now, my most anticipated manga every week are One Piece, Kuroko's Basket and Shokugeki no Souma. The majority of the "Refresh" I do every week is to check if the new chapter of one of the 3 is out.

I remember when I first started watching One Piece I marathoned the bulk of the Kuro arc and almost the entirety of the Baratie arc in a single sitting, practically from mid-morning to early evening.

Majin Tantei Neuro Nougami, I learn english with the sole purpose to read this manga.

When I first discovered that One Piece was a manga I kept up with it weekly for a while, but eventually when I decided to read the whole thing I read all the 500+ chapters released at that point in two week's time.
I also caught up to Magi in a few days. Shonen is crazy addicting even if it's not good. I kept going back to skim Fairy Tail a few times every week before I gave up on it completely. Same for Naruto and Bleach. I still do check out some chapters that have a particularly strong reaction by readers.

My biggest manga binges had to be Jojo's Bizarre Adventure and Flame of Recca. Horrible secondhand translation aside. I remember ripping through at least a volume a day of part IV. Recca took me awhile to get into, but the most addicting parts of it were the last couple rounds of the tournament, and the Sodom arc. I read at least 20 chapters a day when I got to the latter.

Bleach was pretty addicting when I first started reading. It was raining outside, and I had nothing else to do so I got through the intro arc and Soul Society pretty quickly.

Of course, it's only natural that I mention One Piece, both the anime and the manga. I got hooked to the anime since I wanted to get the bad taste of the 4Kids dub out of my mouth. I started reading the manga at Skypiea, and got to Water 7 a week later.

One Piece for both anime and manga. When I was catching up, I used to watch at least 10-20 a day, and finished Thriller Bark in the course of a night.

The reason for manga is because I anticipate it the most every week, but maybe that's because I don't read very many manga.

Sket Dance. Despite its tendency to have lots of boring and pretty bad chapters in between, reading it was like crack. I was hooked right from the get-go. When it's good, it's so good. Read the whole thing in maybe two sittings.

And I've also read the entirety of OP several times and own a couple of books, so I guess it's pretty addictive as well.

You're not the only one. In fact i've had a bad experience with One Pience (i started the anime twice but i couldn't stand episode 1 so i DROPPED it, maybe i should read the manga). Oda's characters just look rubbery to me, the anime is too colourful, but i think what i don't like the most is his artwork (clanky and rubbery chars).

The reason i registered is because there are practically no Toriko forums, and this one here seemed to have loyal followers.

Back to topic. Addictive mangas/animes? I'm not the type who marathons stuff, in fact it bores me, sometimes i have a hard time reading a whole volume (i think there's a special feeling that one can feel if he's waiting each week, you can call it "the reward for waiting" or something) EVEN for my favourite mangas. But the last time i got hooked REALLY REALLY hard was when i discovered New Grappler Baki several years ago… Maan it was the best thing... The fights were so brutal, the characters so badass, the art - so freakishly (yeah that's Itagake, some can't stand his art, i LOVE it) awesome! Heck NGB might be the best Baki, the 5 prisoners was so good... Then Yujiro vs Kaku Kaioh, that has to be one of the most badass fights i've ever seen! I also remember having some fucked up dreams after that... Like i said i don't like to marathon stuff but since i wanted to know the original story i remember seeing several episodes in a row (which says A LOT). I think i've kind of had a similar experience with the latest Guyver series, Monster (saw the last 3 or 4 episodes, i just wanted to get it over it! and although the journey was fun,, the ending i didn't like and i'm not sure i understodd what had happened) and Kaiji S1.

The thing is, an addictive manga is one that you want to go back to, know more, during the day you think "man, I want to go back home so I can keep reading that damn manga". To me, that's an addictive manga.

I've marathoned plenty of things but really In terms of addiction I guess One Piece and HunterxHunter are series where I can pick up an old volume and it will be near impossible to pry me away from it.

The most recent experiences I had with being addicted to the point of all-nighters and skipping school were Space Brothers and Planetes.

One Piece is a pretty obvious one, too. When I first started to read it in translated volumes, they were only up to the Baratie arc. Then I discovered that there are over 400 chapters to read(at the time) and around 300 episodes of the anime to watch. Man, that was one enjoyable summer, I still remember reading it on MSN Groups and watching it on YouTube.

Strangely, One Piece didn't have that effect until I had pretty much caught up.

I got really addicted to Psyren. I'll never understand why it didn't get the love it deserved, it was a pretty awesome thrill ride.

Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer, Trigun, Akira, Sket Dance, Gantz (LOL), and Parasyte were also pretty up there in terms of how fast I chugged throught them.

I've marathoned Yotsuba on at least three different occasions, usually during vacations. It's not a page-turner, it's just that it's page after page of refined happiness.

I agree with this. I haven't marathoned any mangas till now. I just usually read them at my own pace, and enjoy them without rushing too much.

One piece is obviously the first one. Personally, for me it is the most addictive. Its the only manga I have never put on hold, and the one I am most eager to read every week.

Naruto and Bleach were addictive for a while. In a weird way they still are, but for completely different reasons.

The other manga currently addictive are Magi, Shokugeki no Souma and Tower of God(webtoon). That is pretty much it.

I read the first two parts of Kaiji instead of writing a paper one night. I was halfway through it, and despairing about not getting my paper done, but then I used that despair to further empathize with Kaiji and continued on.

Just marathoned the first ten episodes of Kaiji.
I dont think I've ever hated an anime character as much as I just did.
So far its a pretty sweet physiological series, not quite as good as Death Note or Liar Game but still pretty good.
Props to the writers for making me hate a character with such a burning passion.
