Just wondering if it was ever mentioned how Gold Roger became pirate king? and also were there ever pirate kings before him?
Question Concerning Pirate King
-
-
no nothing like that was ever mentioned.
on a side note: i think ussop should be pirate king.
-
He's the pirate king because he's the one who found the One Piece.
Right? -
I've always wondered, is One Piece the name of a treasure Gold Roger found. Or is it the name all the treasure he made when he put everything he ever found and stole in one place? Because he can't become the pirate king by finding One piece if he's the one who made it.
I think he's the pirate king because he went to the unknown and started the whole age of pirate thing.
-

Right?I don;t think that that makes sense, Gold Roger Probaley made One Piece.
-
Alright, I explained this in the stupid questions thread. Gold Roger became the Pirate King by tying the shoelaces of all of the members of the marines together at the hanging of the last pirate king. You know how tempermental the marines are…
-
"One Piece" seems to be the name he assigned to his own hoard; wether it represents a lifetime of accumulation or a single great find, is another concern
-
something else that's been on my mind and I've wondered what others thought.
Did Roger get his title by pirating for many years, earning a great deal of respect. Or did he get the title by doing one big thing, E.G find a one piece like treasure? -

Did Roger get his title by pirating for many years, earning a great deal of respect. Or did he get the title by doing one big thing, E.G find a one piece like treasure?I think it was because of the fact that he sailed to the end of the grand line in such a short time.

As Octogon said, it was probably because he was the first man ever to entirely scale the Grand Line, which was considered an impossible feat. Thus, it also makes him the first and last ''pirate king'' in history. And does Luffy's dream of attaining the same as he has and thus becoming the next ''pirate king''.
And yes, ''One Piece'' is the name given to whatever it is he hid on (supposedly) Raftel.
-
Well I'm not sure that "Pirate King" is an actual title. He was probably just undefeated and undisputed by all the other pirates. Or he just called himself that because he had low self-esteem.
-
Gold Roger earned the title of "Pirate King" because he was a great pirate. Think Luffy but but a lot badder. He was probably not as stupid as Luffy either  . He collected many treasures and became world renowned. I don't know if you watched the Skypia arc yet but Robin discovers something very interesting.

I disagree with you there I thenk Roger was exactly like luffy is today.
I've been thinking was it ever mentioned that Roger himself could Decipher the ancient text? -
It's like how people call Elvis "the king".. he didn't have to defeat anyone for that title, he was simply the best.
-
Gol D. Roger became the Pirate King because he was the first one to dare sail the Grand Line to the end and come back alive in those times when the Grand Line was still unknown to many, also because no one ever defeated him (only WhiteBeard was able to tie a fight with him)
He also probaly found lots of treasure and lived lots of adventures
Gol D. Roger was like Luffy but he seems smarter, but then again Luffy is becoming smarter
And created the One Piece (myth or real deal ?)
I think there's no place that mentioned that Gol D. Roger himself could Decipher the Poneglyphs but the words engraved in the Poneglyphs in Shandora seem to point that he could
-
Yea but when Gold Roger was sailing the Grand Line he was not as young as Luffy is. Maybe when he was younger he was pretty stupid and could not think seriously for 95% of the time, but during his life as a pirate he was already older. I mean Luffy didn't know how to write in the ancient language when he was in Syndora, did he?
-
i think that the world government called him pirate king and told everybody he was the big bad guy because of what was inside one piece. remember that it looks like he was able to read poneglyph, like robin who has been chased by marines for 20 years.
and yeah that's gol D roger's treasure name. he didn't become pirzte king because he found one piece, he MADE one piece.
-
When you're the best, when you're undefeated and when people know that you're an element greater than them, you're often heralded as a king.
-
wow how did you manage to quote the quote-button?..
-
Personally, I belive that One Piece is a chest, when its opened the only contents will be a single mirror, the real treasure was the adventure itself! actually with Oda you can never tell that just might be possible…
-
Yeah, that is quite deep. I bet it is!
-
Well if he was pirate king, it was probably just a nickname, I doubt he was someone who controlled all the pirates in the world.

Maybe it was someone in his crew.
Them why sign Gol D. Roger in the end of the text ?
If other crew member of Gol D. Roger wrote that it would make sense to have signed with his name instead of Gol D. Roger's
Also Gol D. Roger became Pirate King because there was no other Pirate that could defeat him
