What the holy hell is this?
Plot Synopsis:
"Long ago, a far-off planet known as Kumaria exploded, turning into a meteor shower that fell upon earth. This lead to the bears becoming violent and attacking the humans, who created a wall between them and the bears. Several years later, two bears, Ginko Yurishiro and Lulu Yurigasaki, disguise themselves as humans and enroll in Arashigaoka Academy, where Ginko takes interest in a human girl named Kureha Tsubaki"
So it's Attack on Titan meets Bears meets Yuri

That's the stigma? It looks more like the stamen to me.

Time to turn this thread into an educational thread

Man I still don't get what the message behind all of this is so far.^^ What is this invisible storm, why are the trial bears always voting in favor for the bears? Probably because they are bears as well. Who are they?
Nice twist though that the one who actually killed the girl was the class representative and not the other two. This was something that bothered me, cause in the intro and outro they were kinda portrayed as cute and loveable, but then they would just eat the girlfriend of the main heroine? Didn't like that, but thankfully they so far are not killers. Maybe it will change, but I think they just want to ''eat'' this one girl, instead of eat girls, lol.
-
Must suck be the prosecutor, then.

For what I got:
Bear -> Any Open Lesbian that is after at least one girl. They are seen as impure beings that indiscriminately look for prey and that destroy the purity of their victims. Basically they are how our society sees homosexuals.
Invisible -> Merging with the believes of society, be the same as all the others. Basically present yourself as heterosexual even if you're not.
Invisible Storm -> It can be one of two things. The gay movement or a big attack of heterosexuals against homosexuals, even revealing the "invisible bears"(hidden lesbians) and attacking them. It seems like is the later, but it could be the former as well. The trial is super amazing, because is so stupid and at the same time enlightening. Basically you have: One that accepts any kind of love that is open, other that accepts love but within an acceptable level, and the last believes that love is different from people to people. In the end the thing that is important is the last question that the Boss judge always does: "will you be invisible? Or will you eat humans?" and the verdict "Yuri Approved". Meaning this is a movement in favor of Yuri!
About the message of the story. You have one hidden "bear" that blames the open ones for what they are doing, trying to do and for the consequences of their acts. She sees her love as pure and sees the acts of the bears as impure! So it seems a "battle" between the purity and impurity of Yuri.
About this episode: The Student Council President is a bitch! She killed her own lover Bear, and just to get more in the graces of her new target. So basically she also killed Kureha lover to get rid of competition. She also trying to get rid of the new competition as well. If she ever goes to trial I believe she will be the first one to loose.
I thought that it was her killing Kureha lover(The other 2 bears, the main ones, indeed ate Kureha lover as well! Now the question is who was the first to eat her and "kill" her), but I totally thought that she was on the side of the anti-lesbian movement. It seems I was wrong. -
I thought bears were supposed to be heavy-set gay men
-
The message is that bears are sexy
-
Shabadu. ;) Grr. Grr.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
I thought that it was her killing Kureha lover(The other 2 bears, the main ones, indeed ate Kureha lover as well! Now the question is who was the first to eat her and "kill" her), but I totally thought that she was on the side of the anti-lesbian movement. It seems I was wrong.
Are we sure they also ate her, cause it was shown from the evil bears prospective and it could have been a lie she made up and just there to trick the viewers in the first episode. Although the scene is probably there so that evil lesbear can figure out the other two are lesbears as well, so I guess they stumbled upon her dead body then and decided to eat her?
It's my first show from this director that I watch and now I really wanna watch Utena and Penguindrum, cause it is super fun to try piece together what all the scenes mean and I like the style of the show.
And I gotta say, while it can be pretty sad and dark, it is super cute and funny as well.^^ Lol at bear ass sniffing. xD
-
My first time seeing a show from this director too! The thing that I like about it, other than the craziness and how it is shown, is the fact that it has a lot of symbolism in it, but even a person not knowing majority of them is still easy to understand and following what is happening and greatly enjoying it. A lot of titles add a lot of symbolism and mysteries and it ends being super confuse and even presumptuous.
I'm talking all that, but we are still only in the 2nd episode. This still can get lost in the symbolism and end up with all the problems I said above.Did anybody noticed that Kureha house is a representation of a Feminine Genitalia? You have the streets forming a V and in the edge you have her PINK house.
!
-
Yep I thought the same about her house.^^
-
I read the manga adaptation of this (because screw anime) and it's…...interesting I guess. I might watch the actual anime if I'm bothered enough.

But this is a multimedia project. The manga and the anime were developed at the same time and it was decided that the manga would be different from the anime. You can look at both of them as parallels worlds. So if you like the manga you should check the anime as well, and also the other way around.

Invisible Storm -> It can be one of two things. The gay movement or a big attack of heterosexuals against homosexuals, even revealing the "invisible bears"(hidden lesbians) and attacking them. It seems like is the later, but it could be the former as well.So it seems I was right and Invisible Storm is really the heterosexual movement against homosexuals. Or we could even generalize it even more and say that is the movement of the masses against the minority that stands up as different from the rest.
So know that Student Council President is dead and the main Bears(Ginko and Lulu) are going to eat the leader of the Invisible Storm(Eriko) is gonna be interesting to see what that will affect the story. Ah, also now we know that the girl Ginko and Lulu were eating wasn't Sumika, so the only eating her was the Council President, but the Girl from the first episode putting Bear warnings(Akae). Well it makes a lot of sense, that girl was the main girl warning when danger was coming, so eating her first will at least disturb the defenses of the school.
-
Okay I watched Episode 1.
…I don't get it.
Everything is going to be daijoubu
You're not helping, terribly translated fansubs!

I thought that was a pretty solid analysis.
-
So… everyone on a side of the wall is woman and lesbian and everyone on the other side is a predatory lesbian, but we don't even have a little peck on the lips? :getlost:
-
Does it feel like a right assumption that the prince represented male homosexuality? Since the show's all about how lesbians are treated in media and I think their male counterparts have overall better treatment, thus the envy.
-
^that was the best moment of the show so far for me
Did the bee represent yuri fans trying to protect the yuri? It feels like there's a dozen different meanings for everything.
-
I believe the bee represents her true love. The bee all along let her brother pass, but never let anybody else. Though the last time it attacked him. Probably "Desire"(hers) won over love that time, but now she regrets its and will regret for all her life.
