Super Smash Bros

When I started WoL, I just swapped whenever I got a new character. Then when I got Yoshi (and realized that I hadn't used his Crafted Costume yet), I ended up sticking with him.
It's insane how many/almost all challenges and bosses can be overcome with a down-air barrage, the occasional ground pound and a bunch of well-aimed smash attacks. Even spirits that I've heard people complain about like Rayman or The Boss went down on my first try. (although Pauline was an absolute nightmare)I'm getting pretty close to the end now and I just started wondering, if there is some sort of NewGame+, where you can choose your characters from the start, because I kinda wanna play through this mode again with my other mains, but some of them are way to deep in, so once I get them, there would be almost nothing left to fight.
-
So i don't really play competetive fighting games …. Or fighting games at all for that matter ... but i played the story mode on Brawl back in the day and it was pretty fun.
Is it worth it to buy the game just for the single player? How many hours is it?
I would probably play against friends too occasionally. But that probably won't happen very often. -

I would probably play against friends too occasionally. But that probably won't happen very often.I'd ask how it compares to Melee's single player modes, and use that as a barometer. If it meets or exceeds that game's, I'd say it's worth it (but I'll still wait and get a used copy after the hype dies down…plus by then if there are glitches and whatnot that need to be dealt with, they'll have already gotten them done.)

My Work is driving me nuts.
We now have an official Smash board and people are Smashing during breaks and wins are getting tallied on the board and my breaks are off kilter with everyone else so I basically CAN'T PARTICIPATE!!!
UGH!!!
-
So I'll save more of the WoL experience for my solo file. Most of the joint file has unlocked most of the characters through smash battles between my brother and I. That being said…
....what classic mode theme was the coolest for you guys? Luigi against his nightmares, Chrom always teaming up with Robin or Lucina, etc etc.
-
Snake reenacting most of the games.
-
Luigi, Toon Link and Ryu were definitely my favourites.
on another note I just beat WoL, only to see that I must have missed something, because I only have 99.83% completion.
Time to scour through all the areas again.Edit: It's Geno. Kind of fitting, huh.
-
Had the chance to check, Sukapon, and for that matter, Lyn, come back in their spirit board battle, even if KOed
-
Thanks, guess I'm not crazy. Next time it comes up I won't waste slots or time trying to attack the assists. At least in the case of Sukapon I think the strategy might be to kill the enemy off the side of the stage. But I'm also considering Kirby down-B cheese strats.
-
The path to unlock Ryu in WoL (the airport in the center of the lake) was super fun!
-
!
Yeah. I'm really loving Isabelle.
Outside of her I've only tried Doc Mario and Inkling. Loving Dr. Mario. Feels amazing in Ultimate.
But damn do I love Isabelle.
-
I'm trying hard to unlcok characters through world of light, still got tons to go lol
and still getting an error when I try to do my nintendo rewards system to get Piranah plant >:(
-
I love how The Boss uses her PS2 render.
Everyone else from Snake Eater gets the good modern renders from the abomination (it's really obvious for EVA, who's elec resist is hilarious by the way), but the Mother of Special Forces stays true to the old ways.
-
Thus far I have 41 characters, through a combination of playing Classic Mode, Spirit Board, and WoL.
Also, am I the only one who compulsively tries to level up all my primary spirits?
-
Spirits I don't feel like feeding get to take multiple trips into the ruins, the caves, or on Linebeck's Big Adventure.

-
Third page of the wall of Lamentations down. Do any of you got the "get all field skills" or something from the world of light page, bottom left? With all of the wol spirits, and nearing the 1k mark I think that I should have that one, but nothing. I guess I should check the help for hints.
-
I thought that actually meant fill out the entire skill tree. Though I kind of hope I'm wrong.
-
Ya know? It might be, I'm missing like 4 skills (representing like 600 orbs)
-
Interview translation about Ultimate with some stuff about the newcomers, WoL, and spirits

Joker memes are the best.

So does Geno being a sticker dissprove he'll be a character?
Or can you have stickers of other playable characters.
-
Honestly, it's hard to say. We can't forget that MewTwo and Lucas were trophies in Smash 4 before they were revealed as DLC. So who knows…
-

Take this with a plateful of salt, but people have been speculating that spirits disprove fighters on the basis that Piranha Plant doesn't have any spirits in the base game (neither does Joker but, well, nobody would have seen him coming). Since they planned out the DLC a while back, they don't have much of a reason to include a spirit in the game of a character that's going to get a fighter spirit, anyways. People thinking like this have looked for prominent missing characters, which is why there's been speculation that Sylux and Porky are going to be DLC (Porky in particular is a weird omission considering that, beyond him having been a boss and a half in Brawl, the game brought back that whole stage that's named after him, which features his own theme song that is also named after him and a statue in his likeness).
Of course there doesn't have to be any rules to this, since the team could just be protecting the surprise with some characters, or omitted others for weird reasons (maybe Itoi didn't want to include main antagonists? Giygas and - to a lesser extent - Giegue are also blatantly missing), but that's the closest thing we have to a pattern.
-
Porky is in the absolutely safe machine.
But yeah, weird omissions, specially how there are like 20 different Mario spirits, at least 4 spirits of Pikachu, many Links, Zelda's and ganondorfs. Being a useful spirit (meaning primary or support) doesn't seem to block being a figthing spirit, meaning a player character or costume of.
The weirdest part is the plant that they put that evolved into Petey, the little white jumping plant from super Mario Bros 3, either the giant world, the cloud world or the pipes world.
There is also the possibility of using spirits as promotion beyond Pikachu and Eevee next week, to keep adding new spirits and board battles.
For promo content, there is supposedly an event that ups the frequency of glasses wearing spirits, I haven't seen any difference as I think I was only missing Cereza and Fawful (and Egad seems to be fusion only) but the promo image is of James McCloud showing up in the board, but I'm not seeing him, but the board does its best to prioritize spirits wich you don't have, and so far it has only shown me repeats of 1* and maybe some 2*.
I'm not sure if wol 4*spirits would show up on the board normally, but after taking down Articuno and friends and Ninten, only sukapon baby Bowser and the queen Metroid show up there. Taunting me.
Speaking of collections, it seems I bought all the music, as the store didn't show me any new one, and I'm pretty close to 900 tracks, the rest must be locked behind archivments.
And on archivments watch: Games and More joins Spirits, Spirit board and Others at the DONE category.
I started to chew away at Smash, starting with the "I have two controllers" chesseable ones, as the vs cpus one seem to have a ton of conditions to set up, and it would be better to do the similars ones in one go. Online remains ignored until I decide to tackle that beast. Probably after I get all spirits.
Classic and WoL remain with around 3 left.
Some hints on the "harder" challenges, but there hasn't been anything obtuse like going at smash tour to tackle the metroid that stole your shit, or insane like "clear classic with EVERYONE":
! The hardest: using Ken complete century smash with only B moves. Shoryuken and the spinning kick are your friends, make sure you KO the true figthers asap with one Shoryuken, the miis if hit with the kick from like the outher thirds of the platfors will not manage to recover ever, so if you need time to breathe, send some to a slow death. Remember to never ever ever touch the A button, do not pick up the items, and do not stand up or go up the platform attacking, it will count as an attack and you'll have to try for this again.
! The weird: Searching for Fire Emblem opponents in classic fled me to find the 5 giants. Marth faces every reptilian fighter, most of them giant. -
"and do not stand up or go up the platform attacking"
What? So that's what ruined it for me, I suppose. Didn't used any item nor touched the regular attack button and still… Was too pissed after the endless special spamming to try it again, though.Btw, yesterday Smash took its first bite at my pocket as I decided to buy Shovel Knight (on PC, though). I will eventually buy the Bayonettas, too...

I haven't played Metroid Prime, so I'm confused why Sylux always comes up in these things. Aren't the characters not named Samus or Ridley almost inconsequential to the Metroid saga as a whole?
adam can fuck off forever -
Adam is a nice ship. And nothing more
Sylus survived a Metroid game, that is more than Ridley does.
-

Sylux is from Metroid Prime: Hunters, which is already represented by Trace and Kanden. Out of all the non-Samus characters in that game, though, Sylux is the only one who survived, and the one with the most shown importance. He is seen following Samus in the special ending of Metroid Prime 3, and made a brief appearance in the special ending of Federation Force, hatching a Metroid egg. It's been hinted at - by those endings and the series producer expressing some desire to make a game around him and Samus - that he might be a major character in Metroid Prime 4, which happens to be on the horizon.
-
I saw that Ken challenge and beat it on my first try, as my first attempt ever at century smash… I think I completed like 3 challenges at once with it because it took me like 3 minutes and I did it on the stage it wanted for another one. It was so brain-dead; I even had more "trouble" with Wolf's just because it took longer to kill things. Also did the cruel smash challenge but have yet to touch "all-star." In quotes because way to ruin a mode.
In other news, last night I finally completed a couple of 4* bounties on the spirit board. Wario Man and a Belmont; I THINK it was Trevor but I'm not sure. It helps so much that I finally got a support spirit for unflinching charged smash attacks; that's probably the most broken ability in the game. It's how I beat Geno in WoL on my second attempt with ease, but I only had the skill tree version of it. Sadly it doesn't help much for stamina battles (especially ridiculous ones like "also they're metal with permanent spicy curry"), or the insanely annoying assist trophy ones.

Hmmm. Points in his favor I'supose.
-
Foolio, check the crafteable, there are two there that might help you, but bewear there are two skills, slow super armor and unflinching smash attacks.
-
I finally found the Megaman.exe spirit and now I'm sad that he's never going to be a fighter on his own.
His Final Smash can be that bonkers Program Advance with Gateman from BN2.
-

I already have spirits with both those skills (my post was about recently finding the smash attack one); is there a reason I need to craft specific stuff? But the slow super armor one does sound useful for the stamina battles. Assuming I can out-damage them. I'll have to try it.
-
Guys, I would like your help please. I am now in charge of organizing an actual Smash tournament at my work.
Not everyone here is a super competitive player, so the rules are gonna be very lax, but I have one major question I need help with.
Since we're mostly gonna be doing these matches on our breaks and lunches at work, it needs to be 3 stock, 5 min limit. We're being allowed to do this as long as it doesn't interfere with productivity, so a whole bunch of people going over their breaks to finish a match will mess that up real quick.
That being said, I'm worried about people getting 1 stock ahead and then running away to run the clock, so the only stage bans I plan to implement are banning the bigger stages to nerf anyone's ability to do that.
So:
75m
Great Cave Offensive
Hyrule Temple
Palutena's Temple
Gaur Plains
New Pork City
Wrecking CrewAny others I should probably ban going along with that goal?
-
My two cents is if it's going to be casual enough to allow the full version of most stages, then it's casual enough not to care/worry about whether people are going to try to abuse it like that. But that said most of those stages are downright terrible, especially for 1v1. Great Cave Offensive should actually be banned from the entire game. I find its existence… offensive... :ninja:
-
i mean, isn't every stage legal now because of battlefield form? :thinkingemoji:
-
Obviously Omega and Battlefields all will be legal, but my work is being really cool and I don't want anybody to get into a petty bickering match over who deserves the win and have that get the whole thing shut down.
-
Maybe add on walk offs like Wii Fit Studio and Boxing Ring?
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Outside of that I think you covered the major "big" stages.
-
The wall of pain is going down, just need to kill between 1 to 10 fire emblem characters more.
-
I'm debating using hammers for the online ones just on principle. You put in-game achievements behind a paywall to incompetent network play? Blow me. Though I'm not sure how many hammers you can even earn. I think I have 6 right now.
-
I was trying to find if it was even worth it, meaning that I think that the songs, mii costumes and spirits that I'm missing are accounted for with finishing the others, so it would be just consumables.
-
Surprised its not King K. Rool.
He looks really good on the videos. I thought people would bitch.
-
Young Link was kind of good at everything so that's not surprising. Toon Link might have gotten buffed since he didn't seem too great to me, but that could just be me comparing the two.
-
They won't say what got changed. For all we know they buffed Young Link's entire moveset except they made his taunts last longer.
-
Obviously Omega and Battlefields all will be legal, but my work is being really cool and I don't want anybody to get into a petty bickering match over who deserves the win and have that get the whole thing shut down.
Based on things my brother did to stall when I was playing him:
- Arena Ferox and Spear Pillar are both terrible since they create damage caves where people with high damage can stall their death. Some transforming stages have this too, like the giant thing in the middle of the BotW stage, or portions of the mario kart 8 stage. There's also the classic Hyrule stage since it's relatively large and also has a damage cave. OH god, let's not forget Mario Bros. There's also Shadow Moses island which requires upper kills or to break the walls first.
- Yoshi's Island 64 has that super distant cloud that can be abused by characters with more jumps/better aerial recovery. Like, a meta knight could get the with easy while an Incineroar can't do fuck about it.
- Like meta mentioned, stages with walk-offs can lead to people just standing by the edge to grab people and kill super fast. Now that we have stuff like Ridley and Incineroar with command grabs, I have seen people spam those on walkoffs for easy kills.
- Some moving stages interrupt a fight considerably. For example: Icicle Mountain (I think that's what it's called?) and Pac-Land
Honestly, there's so many stages to talk about in terms of how fucking terrible they are for actual matches that I could keep going for a while, but since it seems the stages that cause stupid deaths are probably not a concern, that opens up a lot of possibilities. Like, internal shrieking hanenbow.
-
I would have put Kirby as The World or the Star but:
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
The info was in the wiki, who could have seen this comming?
https://www.ssbwiki.com/List_of_challenges_(SSBU)
Tldr; Online challenges only give consumables and currency. (And of relevance, I'm missing one piece of equipment, one support spirit, 2 fighter spirit and 2 songs, 6 out of 11 challenges) They don't list the full page reward tho, but I don't think that one is going to be a surprise song or something worthwhile.
