Just got back from Target with the game.
Nintendo Rep was there and asked to take a pic of me holding all the amiibo and the game I bought. Was pretty cool.
Throughout this month, we will be testing new features (like search) so you may experience some hiccups from time to time. We'll try to not be too disruptive...

No jump up can be set in all modes, you have to pick your name in the mode for it to be active. The stick tho, I don't know what to say. Go a little slower for now
THANK YOU! That helped a lot.
As for the other part, as long as I know it is a problem with me and not something everybody has I can hope to attune myself eventually.
Persona eh? I suppose that fills the slot of "obscure japanese character" for the five?
I'd love to see 2B in the series, but I reckon the last 4 will be the following.
1. Some old throwback character from the NES era.
2. A fire emblem character from the upcoming three houses game.
3. Either another pokemon or third party character from Square Enix or a western company.
4. Waluigi.
Who said Joker/Rem is an obscure character? Have you ever seen the Persona fandom?
Can you play online via handheld mode?
Joker.
"Obscure Japanese Character".
LMAO
Not even close.
20 characters atm. Didn't start with classic - NESS was the first one I unlocked.
As an impulse I bought the fighter pass (I know, I know…) but I also started a separate Switch profile for the "meat" of the Smash experience with me and my brother to share. I'm fairly certain the code (or rather, the DLC) can be shared. It's not a huge deal if I can't....anyways, the third account was created so we won't have to constantly log into our separate accounts and reconfigure everything
But I realize if I ever get the Switch online, the two of us have friends tied to our individual profiles so it'd be individual logging in anyways.
tl;dr I might have overcomplicated this, but the game is pretty rad.

Nintendo's Reggie Fils-Aime says that's the plan. All of the characters coming to Smash's DLC will be characters from games new to the series he said, and all of them will be unexpected. Sadly, Nintendo didn't have anything else to reveal about the new character – no in game footage, no screenshots and no hints.

Obsucre probably wasn't the right word, but like Shulk from the last game, he fits that role of "Japanese character that a sizable chunk of video game players in the west don't know about"
I know Persona has a huge fanbase, but even I was like…"huh..oh right that game!"

The game was on the list for game of the year last year within the same game awards. It's very much not even in the category of obscurity of Shulk.
Took a nap before work and come to find out my 4 year old unlocked Young Link, Inkling, Ice Climbers, and Ike while he was supposed to be asleep too.

Guess it was just me then! I haven't paid any attention to the Persona games, so it flew under my radar.
Got my copy!!!! Can't wait, gonna stream my first time playing tonight in about 3 hours.
Played the entire night after work yesterday and didn't even manage to unlock half of the roster yet. This game is gonna occupy a tremendous amount of my time.
I'm doing it through classic mode cause that feels the most "correct" to me. I'm not gonna cheese this baby.
In doing so, I've discovered I'm terrible with Jigglypuff shrug.

Lol, only kids can be worse than siblings. I know why I sit on my copy like a dragon on a treasure.
One real negative this game has so far is the unlocking. The AIs are unnecessarily difficult and losing to them makes it a real pain in the ass especially if its a character you want.
EDIT: Ok. Found the way to instantly re-challenge the fighters you lose to. In the "Games and More" option on the homescreen there is a door on the bottom right of the screen. That's where you go.
Yeah, this game is really kicking my butt. I know I've never been particularly great at the series, but I lost to two characters in a row (Bowser and Captain Falcon). I'm also really, really bad at the Spirits challenges.
It doesn't help that I'm yet to unlock any of the characters I'm better with.
Favorite spirit battle so far:
! Buzz Buzz: Vs a miniature Mr. G&W, goes down in one attack.
! Every pikmin (the creatures) battle: so weird that Red are mini-incineroars, purple are mini purple DKs, and so forth
! M. Bison: intimidating and strong, besides the wtf moment of "oh, I'm in earth", and the Street figther homage.
! The Boss: I got lucky, or she let me win.
! Geno just next to galeem, Still haven't fought him, as he's 4* of a color I don't have strongs against.
! Andy: He's a Dr. Mario, and there are like 3 Snakes, and he can heal them.
Go fuck yourself Andy. You and your Les Enfants Terribles rejects.
Holy shit the Mega Man Star Force theme is here. MORE BATTLE NETWORK/STAR FORCE MUSIC.

You have now inherited the title of "Boss", and a life of endless battle.
Got the game but haven’t gotten around to playing it yet. Quick question, how necessary is it to have good spirits in order to progress though World of Light?
The rules of smash, and a well placed footstomp jump led me to that undeserved victory. So I fight on. Next morning because I should rest.

Very, but the game goes out of the way to give you some.
Don't get attached with everyone of them, once you get them one time, they are marked in the spirit list, and you can do whatever with them.
I think that spirits is the slow way to unlock characters. Classic seems to be the most targeted one.
Not only do they give ypu the necessary spirits to usually tackle the next spirit, sometimes tou just need the spirit that makes the fight easier, case in point, the Kap'n spirit. You fight Iggy in the Wii resort level with three water areas. You cannot swim for more than a second, otherwise you sink like a stone. On top of that, there is a strong wind that blows you to the left of the stage where there is a friggin ocean. O recoment the Snorlax spirit since it cuts down how much the wind effects you, but it doesn't help that Iggy's AI is like cranked up to 7-8.
There was a Spirit battle where Alph was possesed by another Pikmin lady that took an ungodly amount of time for me to bypass. The Rayman Spirit can just die in a fire! (I took the left path at the start)
Also, the re-challenge opponent door goes away if you lose again. I assume it'll just pop back up.

It comes and goes at random from what I have seen…considering I was basically doing clean up duty on unlockables my son didn't win. Still waiting for Ryu to come back.
I'm disappointed that Ocelot can't go the full Baby Ocelot (Snake Eater) -> Troy Baker Ocelot (Phantom Pain) -> Classic Ocelot (MGS1) -> Liquid Ocelot (MGS4).
I haven't even touched spirits lol, been primarily playing smash after smash after smash.
From what I can tell, the CPU learns from what you do, because multiple times I kick their ass in the first stock then suddenly they're goddamn slippery and I can't land a hit in the second and third stocks. On the other end, I conditioned a Pit to use his reflect move every time I used a projectile, even when it wasn't aimed at him. (Testing done with CPU 7-9)
So yeaa… great at showing you your habits and forcing you to try different tactics, but over time I will need actual people to get better.
Also, I love how I look at my friend's list to add my brother and fucking everyone was playing smash. First time I've seen that happen with any Switch release.
Finished my first play session. First impressions:
-Smashes seem a lot more satisfying in this game
-I have no idea what these tickets and coins and SP do!
-So…which Smash modes allow you to unlock characters? Cause it seems I did a Tourney for nothing.
-Pretty cool how each character has their own unique Classic Mode
-No Trophies this time? Instead we get Spirits? Hmm...alright.
-I unlocked K. Rool. I am a happy chap

Gotta love Metal Gear.
I've finally unlocked every fighter through classic mode. Took me a good 15 hours.
Now I can check out world of light at my own pace.
I have also just finished unlocking all characters, though I did it through Smash battles and the cheese of switching language every battle.
OF COURSE, it figures that the character I wanted to use most, Palutena, was the fucking last one I got. Jesus shitfucks batman. But now I got her and she feels great and it's all good.
Most spirit fights are pretty easy unless there are multiple targets or a short time limit, but I didn't think I was getting past Dr. Wily with his 8 metal Mega Mans (+a Dr. Mario) in a very uphill stamina challenge.
I think it was the first fight that made me actually have to adapt spirits to win, since their health wouldn't drop very fast and mine would plummet because of their constant projectile spam.
But I discovered Captain Falcon has a good way of dealing with that challenge…
The Geno one was hard but cool.

Finally beat friggin Kapp'n, just used Plessy and Snorlax. After that Iggy was cakewalk
There is a mallow spirit as well!!
Finally finished everyone's Classic-Mode, as one of my old mains I left Toon Link for last.
Highest Intensity: 7.3
Bonus Game: 142,780
Credits: 1,728,600
Now to finally start the World of Light!
So, everyone else is also trying to unlock every character before going to Spirits mode, right? It is obviously harder for me, though, because while people are already making the transition, I just got to 46 characters (despite +13 hours)…
Also, maybe this chances on higher difficulties, but on the level I am currently playing Ike is absurdly overpowered. He became my cheat route whenever I tire of having my ass kicked by a character I am trying to unlock.
Unrelated: I wonder if I will ever get to a point when I will see "Shulk" and not mentally pronounce it as "She-Hulk"
My brother and I started with some 1v1 battles with the original roster to see how they play and unlocked some fighers. Then we jumped right to spirit mode because we are both good with Kirby and can rotate after each fight. We discovered that every fighter we unlocked in the Spirit Mode was unlocked for all other modes, so we continued.
This method to unlock new fighters seemed rather slow though, even with occasionally dropping back into the main menu to force another challenger. 15 new fighters within 12 hours…
The varied matches and leveling your spirits really make that mode. We had a lot of fun. My brother hates Funky Kong now tho. His level in spirit mode was insane, even on easy (Is there a Spirit against Bullet Bills?). I think we did nearly 20 retrys
Got most of the characters now thanks to the reset trick. Has been a fun game, looks real damn pretty.
so it seems there are three avenues.
Wow, Pauline's spirit is a bit of an ass.
I got lucky when she used her recovery and somehow missed the platforms while I was trying to keep myself alive.
I used to like 75m.
Hmmmmm.
Yeah, I have to go back for her, I think she's the one that I'm missing on that zone.
I've been alternating between random battles to unlock faster and also Classic with as many characters as possible. So far my performance in Classic feels near-random. I've started at 5.0 with almost everyone and I've beaten it without dying with some of the most unlikely characters, but what surprised me the most was clearing it on 9.9 with DK. I never use DK; I just wanted to get all the original fighters out of the way first haha.
Haven't touched anything related to Spirits yet, and have yet to unlock a lot of the characters I want to use.

Wrong special, probably wouldn't work since they wrecked every other character with their constant pellet barrages.
They ate aerial Falcon Kicks without much chance for chipping my stamina.

Even with a jumping spirit, this one had me running the timer since she was so slippery or getting slowed and dunked on.
And then Mario ends up killing Peach during her Up+B with Fludd.
Just so hard to finish her even when either Mario or DK ended up killing themselves…
Hmmm, First wall of lamentations down the "others". Not too traumatic.
Only 6 characters to go. Greninja, Palutena, Dark Samus, Mewtwo, Wolf, Rosalina. Tomorrow.
