That sounds like a great and satisfying single player campaign, therefore I don't believe it out of hand.

This is a leak about the Spirits mode that caught my eye.
if it's true it would be really cool
Sounds really fake to me. Too much information for someone who supposedly is just trying it out. I don't think they would tell a playtester(?) about the existence of a secret ending pre-release. And puzzles in a smash game just sound off to me, how would that even work?

So… so beautiful. It even has rap lyrics and a chorus...

I've been on a huge kick of Mother 3 music for the past few days and it's striking me how excited I am that New Pork City is back. The level itself is pretty unfun and I think the design is a little lazy (the whole floating sky platforms thing is confusingly unfavorful), but the music is awesome and I'm so glad we're getting it back for that. Not only do we have the music, but we also have omega and battlefield forms to jam it to. Plus, now that the music is shared by series, we can bring those tracks to more viable stages, too. I'd be floored if they added a song or two to the city for a chance at more of one of the best soundtracks Nintendo ever put a game to. My dream would be Theme of DCMC or Master Porky's theme.
With the massive soundtrack we're getting, there must be a lot of new music for the old stages, and my head's spinning with the possibilities.
-
Just throw both Mother 3 soundtracks into the game as-is. Fuck it.

We have those too.

you gotta love the variety in arrangers here. You have Sonic guys like Otani and Senoue doing Splatoon and Megaman, and now freaking ACe+ for Donkey Kong.
what's next, Totaka for Bayonetta?

Don’t like it. The trumpets are too loud and make it impossible to hear the lyrics. It also loses the sea shanty vibe from the original DK country (which even the Brawl remix tried to retain), and considering the song is called Gang-Plank Galleon, that’s a big minus. It’s also missing the transition from sea shanty to a beat with more energy from the original that would be needed for a fighting game, but that’s hopefully the result of this being a preview.
Nintendo sometimes does remixes and updates to their music that improve on the original (like the Airship theme for when SMB 3 was put on the GBA), but not this one. Just give me the original.
. -
The original song never striked as a final boss battle imo.
-
I really love the Gang-Plank Galleon remix, as well as almost every other one they've posted so far. These arrangements are really setting themselves apart creatively and are bursting with energy, which was one of my big complaints about the music in Sm4sh. 90% of the time it really felt like the arrangers just kind of went through the motions without any creative flair, resulting in remixes that felt generic and subdued.
-
I think the Smash remixes are best judged in motion. I often get attached to the original songs, too, but most of them weren't exactly made for the sort of game Smash is. That Gang-Plank Galleon has a really nice faster pace to it and some cool features in the arrangement that I think will be a great backdrop to the action.
I do agree that the vocals are kinda far back in the mix, though. They put the vox up front on the new F-Zero medley, but hide them away on Gang-Plank for some reason. It's not too huge of a knock, though, just kind of weird.

https://www.vg247.com/2018/08/15/super-smash-bros-ultimate-echo-fighter-ideas-picks/
Making paper Mario an echo completely misses the point of the character.
I don't know if toon Zelda would look right with the "decline" Zelda's proportions, but it would be cool.
I'm not too keen on more Zelda characters, but getting ninja impa would be OK
Jeane and shadow, yah shure, go ahead. Dixie as well. Medusa I'd be pumped just for the opportunity of better "guidances".
Octolings are the "youngest" character that I think that has a chance to get in, as the squids were already famous (contrast to arms, a franchise that will get in more because it makes sense than it's own star power), that development team is from nintendo propper (contrast with metroid samus return or monolith-soft content), and that in the end, it's just change the hair and eyeshape (and other little features) and set up some new duds for them. The issue that I see with them is to have to account for their own ink collor, or to make sure that if they share colors with the Inklings, they don't overlap even if two people pick the orange inked character.
But ken? With sakura akuma and Dan as better shottoclones, with sakura boosting female presence And Akuma villains, bringing only ken is a missed opportunity.
BTW , has anyone seen a golden sun character concept that actually uses the djinni cycle of set-standby-cooldown to make the character? Like your specials put djinni on stand by, and that reduces your base power, but gives you access to some stronger moves.
-
I think incorporating djinn into a moveset would be pretty complicated, even if you just reduced it to one djinn to use/summon. I always liked the idea of djinn as items better, with Judgement still being Isaac's final smash.
-
My brother has been suggesting instead of Shadow as an Echo of Sonic it should be MetalSonic. I kinda agree. While Shadow is definitely a rival character, Metal is still a villain character, fitting in with the apparent theme we've got going on here. Especially seeing how much Dark Samus' idle animation changed to reflect its personality, I could see stiffer movements on Metal. Hell, he'd have LESS animation! Even easier for dev!
Tho I guess doing this would edge me toward wanting Akuma as Ryu's echo as opposed to Ken as I feel would be more natural.

I suppose a Djinn item could work like some of the other items added in recent Super Smash Bros games where if you collect enough of them in the match they unleash a summon. That'd be pretty awesome! Although I don't know if Sakurai would go through that much effort for Golden Sun. =(

So I'm tots down for a shadow echo, akuma echo, and proto man echo
also just pre ordered my game today

Guessing Boxing K.Rool from DK64 is going to be a skin :ninja:
Don’t like it. The trumpets are too loud and make it impossible to hear the lyrics. It also loses the sea shanty vibe from the original DK country (which even the Brawl remix tried to retain), and considering the song is called Gang-Plank Galleon, that’s a big minus.
The original irony here being that K.Rool despite having gangplank galleon as his theme doesn’t
dress as a pirate in the game which this theme comes from. -
We went over the big content (stage and characters) featured on the direct already. Features don't seem to get posts. Only new Donk left to go, or the non focused music tracks, but we are back to regular schedule.
-
I was doing a little math with regards to music in the game. Numbers pulled from the wiki and using ctrl+F for Brawl/Melee/N64 to simplify counting (being sure not to include places where the name shows up more than once in the song credit or elsewhere on the page), so this may be off by a bit. Plus it includes menus and maybe some minor tracks not actually worth considering.
Smash Wii U had 490 tracks with DLC, with 120 from Brawl, 37 from Melee and 5 from 64, meaning 328 unique tracks.
Smash Bros Brawl had 258 songs, 120 would be in the Wii U version, 33 from Melee and none from 64, meaning 105 additional songs.
Smash Bros Melee had 52 tracks, 37 would be in the other games and 3 from 64, meaning 12 additional songs.
Smash Bros 64 had 20 songs, 5 would be in other games, meaning 15 additional songs.
That gives us 460 songs between all the games, including a lot of less consequential themes like menus, game exclusive modes and other stuff not likely to show up in Ultimate, plus also not checking to see if all the melee tracks used in Brawl were used in Wii U because checking that would be boring. If every single one of these songs was brought to Ultimate (and, again, this number is inflated a little), we would still have 340 new tracks before all the menus and fanfares.
Jesus dick some of those had better be from Mother 3.
-
smash 4 had that many new tracks? Huh, thought brawl had more proportionally….
-
At least one of those 800+ songs needs to be Love Deterrence.
-
Hoping for Fist Bump to show up in that big list.
-
Final Fantasy sitting there with two songs and two songs only.
-
In my dreams a remix of Growing Wings is in there but then I wake up and know it won't be ;_;
-
If we really are getting only two FF songs, I hope this means we get a bunch of music from other Squaresoft/Enix games instead. More Chrono Trigger is always a good thing.
-
The treasure trove of Mario RPG OST is waiting patiently.
-
Just give me an action remix of Mr. Saturn Theme Z, papa Sakurai.
-
Final Fantasy sitting there with two songs and two songs only.
A Nomura-directed game takes like eight years to make. They couldn't possibly handle such a mighty task.
-
Final Fantasy will still have two songs but somehow a Simple and Clean remix gets in.
-
Castlevania gets 34 songs and out of those Order Of Ecclesia gets 2 which means no Emerald Mist,Chapel Hidden In Smoke, Hard Won Nobility,Serenade For The Hearth, remix or a boss medley that features Sorrow's Distortion, Sapphire Elergy, & Order of The Demon.

So the Skull Kid rumor/hint with chairs and pillows. I normally wouldn't think anything of it if not for first Direct that fully revealed Ultimate.
I mean yeah maybe it's just a coincidence ok but look down below.
This was from the first Direct. The earthy natural theme. The wooden rope ladder, the wooden book shelves, the plants, the brown chair. This looks like Donkey Kong's house complete with a red and yellow muthafletchin' barrel!
I dare you to tell me that didn't hint at K Rool! Just like you said the Smash 6 job listing was a mistake!
-
I'm honestly more sold on Skull Kid from the random figure of him on Reggie's desk from the Diablo III trailer than from the chairs behind Sakurai.

Normally don't mind Alax, but this video was terrible. The guy he's quoting is basically predicting the same exact shit 95% of the Smash community is predicting because 95% of the Smash community is all following the same sources as potential leaks.
Take Incineroar. Couple months ago it was only like one or two people saying Incineroar while everyone else was fucking certain Decidueye would be playable. Then a relatively credible "leaker" said Decidueye was not the gen 7 pokemon rep, and suddenly everyone is guessing Incineroar.
It feels like one of those people where everyone goes "omg this guy is saying things that are real!" because it aligns with what everyone agrees is most likely.
(also screw these bitches, primarina is the best and most popular AND would be more interesting. Primarina 4 Smash )And lol, because it was so hard to guess that Simon would come with a dracula stage. Same with the smash meter and crew battle modes: it wasn't just one person thinking and dreaming of those, there were multiple people.
Now, show me someone who was right about the stage morph or smashdown before it happened, and then you got my attention. You know, the things no one really thought about wanting until Sakurai showed them.(I would say Richter is another one no one should have guessed, but someone did and that person is also claiming Gardevoir AND Gothitelle soooooo… yea, I don't think I buy that one lmao)
-
If we get a Generation VII Pokemon, it might be nice for it not be a starter. Although I really like Decidueye and was kind of hoping they might make the cut. Incineroar? We don't talk about Incineroar. I hate that it's becoming a popular choice, but that doesn't necessarily mean anything.
-
Whether it happens or not, Buzzwole will always be the best possible Gen 7 rep.
-
There only character who I honestly believe has an insanely good chance of getting into the game at this point is Geno. That's it.
Everything is just grasping at likely characters, and really, all I feel that does is get people's hopes up only to be torn down eventually.
-
I would be very "eh" to Incinroar, but I think Gothitelle is an unusual pick.
-
I warmed up to the idea of the bug lady ultrabeast.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Btw, I know that most people are pro-skull kid, but is there any moveset around? His hyrule warriors stuff was a weird acrobatic, plus kicking around a mini moon stuff, with the fairies as his true weapon, with generic dark balls thrown around for good measure. Oh, and twilight princess puppets.
-
He fires blow dart needles at mature Link in Ocarina of Time.
Sheik's moveset was also pulled entirely from thin air aside from the smokescreen. Although I supposed Skull Kid could get specials based on different ocarina songs he can play. Majora's first phase also summoned the decapitated heads of previous bosses to attack Link, so maybe something can be done with those.
Since the Moon is taken, his Final Smash can be Majora's Incarnation/Wrath.
-
Dunno, Hyrule Warriors used the moon on three different characters. Skull kid is playable in there too, with some pretty awesome laser beam eyes.
-
I just remembered that Capcom is the owner of the Ace Attorney series and now I want a Phoenix Wright assist trophy that shouts Objection! whilst attacking with the world's most powerful index finger.
-
Phoenix Wright FS would have each character to have their own Breakdown.
-
I'm ok with street fighter's AT being Phoenix Wright.
I've kind of gave up with Melee because between the emulator and the xbox controller I wasn't getting what I wanted out of it, so I recovered my Wii U and decided to play a while again, and with the choice to group up the echo characters being in SOME menu around, I believe that we might get other choices to sort characters, maybe to group them by series or age of the character rather than their "smash number", granted the smash number was a very big factor on the E3 presentation, but I just don't see any menu where the group echoes option might be.
Btw, my wall of lamentations on wiiu was on 3 challenges to go, Classic with marth on 9.0, ALL the custom moves, and someone beating classic on 9.0 without customs or losing a life (unbreakable), I used two hammers on the 2 that I could, but turns out I'm just missing like 6 custom moves (Pikachu, Metaknight, Wario and Bowser Jr for my own future reference), so to avoid that nagging feeling that I still have that I was missing 7 stickers from brawl, I'll very likelly try to do this.
Granted, fuck the one for smash tour, but the other ones I'll give a fair shake.
Oh, I also didn't do all star on hard with All characters. I'm ok with that one as well.
