Chapter 657: A severed Head

That got me thinking too. If Legs and Head are the same person, we know for sure that the one who did him that is not the Shichibukai, since Head doesn't know the name of the guy who cut him (Meaning that he doesnt know who he is, so he can't possibly know he is a Shichibukai).
If you read last week's chapter, you will see that Legs ask the SHs if they are ALSO allies of the Shichibukai, so what I am assuming is that Trafalgar Law is the guy behind the Samurai's status but have nothing to do with the PH guys, M and the kids.Probably the Samurai started to attack Law's men when they met in the island mistaking them with some allies of the Shichibukai, they called for help (The call that the SHs intercepted) and Law came and defeated the Samurai, leaving him in that state The Shichibukai the Samurai is talking about should be M, who kiddnapped his son.

Did it occur to you or anybody that legs might be his son?

Cause I mean Franky how ALSO shoots beams and he got his blue prints for that from Vegapunks Lab back when he was on his home land and not part of the Government yet. Before he would have been working on the pacifistas and so on. Before he had access to Kizaru.

So I don't see how Vegapunk would be able to use say Law's fruit. He isn't using Kizaru's fruit, he just replicated it. If he had learnt to somehow use it. then why aren't the Pacifistas logia's too, or moving around as fast as light, or ect. Why is there only the laser beams. And again something that FRANKY was able to copy from old blue prints

They specifically said that he did work with kizaru's lasers to add them to pasifistas, x. drake said it I believe

and in this case what's the difference between harnessing and replicating, I mean they said they know what makes a df give someone powers I guess controlling that and making it is harassing it, but there ned product would just be to replicate anyways unless there's some nuclear DF plantation

Don't know if it was already mentioned, but the part of law telling his folk to wait until enter the new-world (http://www.mangareader.net/103-56333-12/one-piece/chapter-595.html) somehow indicates an idea law follows… doesn't seem as if he's the guy for acting like the normal pirates, so a collaboration with the wg or just vegapunk would be possible.

But... as how i imagine oda's manner of work it should be someone completly new after an arc, which existed only because and for the purpose of enlightenment of yet known characters/beings/weapons.

Ok, great chapter over all: Cool cover page, XD the centaur, "Luffy that's vulgar", haha Robin. And Punk Hazard has GOT to be where Aokiji and Akainu fought 'cause I mean, it's so clear. As for the harpie girl, I have NO idea, well there was a dragon on the island so maybe all of these mythical beasts on the island where mishaps of Vegapunk. And lol, the samurai head, and Nami!XD Oh and I know Franky's really strong, but how come he broke the wall and Sanji couldn't? Sanji is stronger, no offence to Franky 'cause he's sick too! "RADICAL BEAM!" Hahaha. And the samurai must be pretty old considering how he speaks and his unknowing of "fashion", and his olden day topknot hairstyle. And I love the guys who kidnapped them, they look like the guys from Mass Effect.XD And the legs of the guy they found on the dragon are probably the samurai's son's legs, 'cause they just don't fit and the head doesn't speak the same way as the legs. And here is something that is probably totally wrong, but O was just thinking about it: IF Aokiji and Akainu fought at PH, then the Mass Effect guys are using the ice caves as a hideout and harboring baby giants for some kind of plot for when they grow up, and all of this is being conducted by their leader "M" that they were talking about in the earlier chapter, and they all must be pretty stupid, or they just don't read the news because, how the hell did they not know that they were the Straw Hats?!?!? And Brook, lol, they didn't take him and now he's missing XD~

I'm still digging the idea that the straw hats are the ones which decreased in size. Just because Alice in Wonderland has been in Oda's mind for quite some time. At least Big Mom's chapter kind of reminded me.
And how fun would that be? Little big planet on a frozen/blazzing island's research facilities. The possibilities.
That is pretty unlikeable tough. Just that I read that and everyone ignored it.

I don't think so, their wings were hardly 1/3rd the size and were non-working. Their wings were of differnt shapes, but not that different in size to body ratio. We saw that Skypiean/Birkan/Shandian were all connected to each other with that image in the ruins Enel found on the moon, none of tehm had 'full-sized" and functional wings.

None of them have the same size wings as this bird woman. Her wings are in reatio to her body the way Laffitte's transformed arms to wings were in ratio to his body size.

This samurai has integrity like Zoro except that he is rather sexist, conservative in the dressing code and not immune to women.

Cant argue there, esp if they help get him all together and find his son, he would feel obligated to help them, even if he hated them still (just for being priates lol) as a samurai, we expect for him to have an honor code. That would make him want to repay the debt of their helping him. Andits possble that if he helps, Tashigi (who like the samurai, is very judgemental) may declare him 'evil'

Again, Kizaru's laser on the pacifista is like saying that "we replicated Mr 5's powers! This is Gunpodwer!" or "We replicated Mr 1's power! Here's a knife!"

It's a process that is replicable (even though not in that scale).

Give me magma, give me logia bodies, give me something that shouldn't be replicable, not "A laser in a robot"

And regardless how observation you tried to be you are making an assumption again. We saw him cut seemingly without touching, BUT that doesn't mean if he were to cut someone like mihawk/zoro it would not result in a splitting like Buggy being cut if he has his ROOM effect on.

There's just too much that we don't know that making any OBSERVATION is pointless. Observation only tells us what he CAN do, not what he can't.

In defense: I am not making a serious statement or theory about Law's abilities. What I am making a serious statement about is that the possibility that Law is doing this and that he is a Shichibukai is not completely certain, and the other possibilities shouldn't be ignored out of bias.

In agreement: I did make a judgment out of superficial observations. It was silly, and fun :P. Also, samurais are sexist, and this manga is sexist. It's a joke, see the sarcasm?

Giants are gonna play a huge role in the arc,and a bigger role in the story,very cool.

Loving Franky using his beam,Nami being a strong woman and Sanji taking charge and not acting like a prick.

Sheesh,three chapters and that Dragon is already half eaten lol.

I'm still sticking with the idea that Legs' mouth is between his legs or something lolz worthy.Seeing how small the slices can get,and in detailed angles.

this arc is throwing fresh and exciting things at me so i shall instead focus on random previously established things i dislike about the series as a whole, that will show him to make his manga fresh and exciting

But nah I'm not like that, thank God. Definitely a chapter I had to reread, but seriously, this chapter might as well be a representation of the New World as a whole. It seems like Oda's doing exactly what everyone wanted him to and making the New World bizarre in general, not simply with weather and island patterns.

Seriously I don't even know where to begin though lol. One Piece has never been this strange. A+ chapter. And I think Nami's new "style" is what the pervy old men on Weatheria brainwashed her into thinking what style was… butidon'tmindatall

Everyones already made the giant marine connection, it would be nice if the giant squad got an explanation. Assuming that is what this revelation will lead to.

Anyways so many questions raised for the arc, can't wait for it all to unfold.

About Law his fruit. I don't really think that Law has the ability to slice people in slices.. I mean, when he used his attacks he 'traded' something for it. A head for a canon ball etc. Bepo for John Giant..

I like the detail of the toy seagull. Makes me hope the marines are actually involved in shady stuff here, mostly because chances are that Smoker will come hunting for Luffy, and instead he'll just discover a horrible reality being hidden.

Also, I really like the connection someone made before between the jolly roger at the gate, the giant skull, the ice island and Oars having frozen to death. Probably just random ties, but I like it nonetheless.

Hmmmm….now that you mention it, it is plausible. I doubt they're from Elbaf. And since the samurai's head is found in the prison and his lower half is found in the burning half of the island, his upper half most likely be in that frozen half. For some reason, I had a feeling this story arc will have a lot of references to Hayao Miyazaki works. I don't know, the first time I saw that 'angel like human' that Usopp saw in the frozen half, kinda reminds me of that angel girl from Chage and Aska's On Your Mark AMV and Nausicaa.

He was not being sexist he was just stating how things work bak in his home country and it is not like it is wrong to correct someone like that. I also feel bad for Sanji. It seems like he wants to catch up wit Zoro for osme reason and he feels bad for being captured in the first place. Also I was disappointed that he couldn't break down the steal door but atleast he mad a dent, it would be good to know if the bed is as hard as the marine's gates from Enies Lobby. This is the second time so far that Sanji showed something that he could have picked up from his okama land. The use of Spectrum in one of his attacks in Fishman Island and knowing about different hairstyles seems like something you'd learn on an obssessive island filled with trans.

It's interesting that Punk Hazard is forbidden to the Marines. It's faintly reminiscent of the Saobody Arc, when that one guy at Marine HQ spoke of the incident at the Slave Auction House, but instead used the term "employment office". It made it seem, gee, I don't know…like the Marines aren't supposed to KNOW that the Tenryuubito keep slaves. Must have something to do with that pesky World Government directive banning slavery. Oh well. Gotta work around it somehow, I guess.

And no one else cares… That is great! I've been waiting to see his arm cannon again. I expected that to be his first move out the gate. Now after more than a year of chapters this is the first we see of it. Good eye!

If that little winged woman doesn't play a role in this arc I'm going to assume she is some kind of scouter for Big Mom. Just checking to see if the Straw Hat's made it into the new world.

as for Brook not rescuing everyone, remember that Franky didn't wake from the gas-induced sleep until Sanji dented that massive door, so Brook is probably still sleeping.

I'm calling the cover story next arc is the puzzle villain becoming vice president of Wapol's toy company.

To me it means they are not giant kids, but that it's the crew that was reduced in size. The head was like a puzzle, and the SH were meant to be transformed into toys/dolls for the kids.

Of course Jinbe joinin the shichis had more reasons than just recruiting a strong guy.
If the WG found out bout the real intentions of Kuma they'll freak out all the more.
But Law joinin the shichis isn't that far fetched. He saw the PXs @ SA, at the war on the screen b4 he departed and he saw them on marineford himself. He maybe got interested in Vegapunk's work.
And all he did at the war was catching Luffy and Jinbe who got thrown by Buggy. He didn't help them any more than Buggy with their escape.
I said that once already, but if Law AND Vegapunk are involved in this, we'll hav a hell of an arc to start in the NW.
And for all those who think its too early 4 Law to appear:
It maybe isn't the last time we'll c him. Same goes 4 Smoker.
As for the villain that has to be beaten up, I'd go with one of the "experiments" or Smoker.
IMO those giant kids aren't held because the master needs them grown up.
A giant life is 3 times longer than a human's, so it could be that those giants are bout 20 yrs old.
Normal humans don't live long enuff to research long term effects on giants, no matter what they r testing.
I still wonder if the warning shield on PH's entrance is related to giants (elbaf or the oars family).

Also I make a first slight speculation:
-The guy who called maybe also got kidnapped just like Sanji + co. He managed to escape but then he ran into that samurai.
-The samurai (lower half) sliced those guy (like we heard it from the dendenmushi).
-The lower half got sliced apart by a shichibukai (Law or another dude with a puzzle fruit)
-That shichi also sliced apart another samurai (the head - from what it looks like now, the head is lower half's dad).
-Giant kids are also in PH for unknown reasons.
-A bird woman is there too 4 unknown reasons (she could belong to BigMom like sumone said b4).
-IDK what the samurais are doin there to begin with. They maybe hav a grudge against PH or they wanna take revenge for whatever happened at that incident 4 yrs ago or maybe sum samurais got kidnapped b4 although Brook and Ryuuma stated their strength.
-Also we can assume that people from Wano are very old-fashioned and they may hold on to their traditions. Just look how he talked to Nami (girls hav 2 walk behind men and stuff). Reminds me of Japan between 18th and 20th century (very traditional and old skool stuff).
So maybe the guys from Wano just don't like high tech stuff islands like PH and attack it for that reason.
A very pathetic theory, I know. But rite now I hav no clue why there is a Samurai on an ex-wg-island randomly slicing up people.

BTW its kinda pity we c Franky's arm gun so randomly in a tiny panel. Yet I liked how the focus was on his radical beam (Chopper's reaction also was hilarious).

But lets not forget that Oda said that its not the only home of giants. He said it indireactly when showing Robin's flashback meeting Saul, who said that he is not one of "those savages from Elbaf". Oda said it directly in a SBS when people asked if Oars was from Elbaf, He said that there several types and several homes of giants.

By Saul's calling the giants of Elbaf as savages, I believe he's refering to thier Viking-like (war and battles are part of their honor codes) culture, which makes me think that kidnapping kids from such a culture would be difficult. Nah, if they are giant kids, they came for some more peaceful giant society. At least most of them, there's no reason they all had to come form same place.

Exactly. It's hard enough to kidnap kids that are ten times the size as normal humans and whose parents are bigger than an entire house.

i like the idea of a puzzle puzzle fruit. i guess one samurai became a pirate and kidnapped his son. samurai turned pirate for shichi (though the father said he didn't know who the enemy is/or who cut him)! Law (if ever) being here is too early i think for them (SH) to meet and fight.

Nah,I don't think that the crew reduced in size.And the samurai is huge.See the legs.Also those masked guys were not that larger from the crew.

OK, so another great chapter of piling up the mysteries - I guess Oda knows he had to start off the NW with a bang and he did.

The Law theory seems less likely to me now as a result of the other elements shown in this chapter - the birdwoman and the giant kids. The severed Samurai head and the talking legs can still be only explained by Law's DF ability, because the Samurai head did say he was cut up by someone he doesnt know but survived somehow. But since his kid was kidnapped too, I guess theres a crazy experimenter who needs kids for his experiments (hence the giant kids we saw, unless the theory of the 'shrunken pirates' is correct). Someone could be trying to mimic Law's ability through experiment or have developed it for some other reason.

The comedic elements of the chapter were great as usual - Luffy's Centaur performance, Robin's "Luffy thats gross" comment, Luffy 'getting Dragon powers', the whole severed head bit… pretty damn funny. Also, the birdwoman was having a sinister expression as if she just saw her prey - so its gonna lead to nice things
