So I've decided to start this thread because I've thought it would be fun to talk about which characters in manga are the most badass. And because I've only read a bit more than a dozen manga series. I haven't read Fist of the North Star, Jo Jo's Bizarre Adventures, History's Strongest Disciple Kenichi and quite a few other series that are considered made of badass. Now of course being a badass isn't just about how strong you are it's also how cool the character is, they're attitude during the face of danger and what they do in battle.
I was thinking we could try and make a universal top ten list of the most badass manga characters. Obviously no list can be completely universal but we could try our best to make a list that the most people could agree with. I've also thought about making a seperate list for heroes and one for villains because being an evil badass is very different from being a heroic one (anti-heroes are eligible for the heroic list too though). I also think it's best to make a one character per series rule, which may be a bit unfair to series that have more than one legitimate candidate but I think it's best to have as much variety in the list as possible. It also would be nice to give reasons why each character is so badass. Also, I personally think that the character should be an actual character beyond just being UBER-BADASS! I really wouldn't care about Zoro, Guts, Scar etc. if I didn't also really like their characters. Hiei was pretty damn badass but I've recently realized that he had a pretty shallow personality (at least from what I remember some have told me he gets better later on.)
I'll start with characters that I feel very confident to be on the universal list.
1. Roronoa Zoro. Obviously One Piece deserves its representative and who better than the Straw Hat's first mate. Zoro is easily the second strongest member of the Strawhat crew but even though Luffy is stronger, Zoro is definitely cooler. In all of his fights he loses a ton of blood and fights at a disadvantage yet he still always proves victorious. Three of Zoro's most notable "Yeah He's Definitely A Badass" moments are in Alabasta and Enies Lobby. In Alabasta during his fight with Daz Bones where he throws a BUILDING at Daz, and not a small one either. Obviously he was badass before that but that's when you realized he wasn't just good at using a sword, he also had unbelievably high physical strength to go along with it. Then there's him cutting an entire train into pieces which showed that the gap in power between him and Mihawk (the man who cut a galleon in half) was lowering. And finally "Nothing. Nothing At All." I think that's all I really have to say on the matter. Obviously a ton of other One Piece characters deserve their due such as Luffy, Sanji, Crocodile and WHITEBEARD! But all in all I think Zoro is the best choice. He has a ton of other moments besides the ones I listed, those are just the ones I decided to go with as the best examples.
2. Guts. Berserk, being one of the most depressing and violent worlds ever seen in manga had to have someone this cool, otherwise you'd wonder how the hell humans were able to survive. Guts' goal in life is to kill a GOD. Even he probably knows how nigh-on impossible that is, but he doesn't give a damn. Femto/Griffith betrayed him and ruined his entire life, shattering everything he held dear to him, so Guts isn't going to rest until he's finally gotten revenge. And indeed on his journey he doesn't get much rest because he's plagued by hoardes of demons due to the mark placed on him. But none of the demons have had much luck in their battles with him, and none of them have come back alive. Other notably awesome moments from Guts are when he has to fight against an army of demons using nothing more than a dagger and a HORN HE TORE OFF ONE OF THE DEMONS. Or there's the memorable time he fought against a Giant made of lightning that towered over a city by riding on a giant demon. Indeed Guts doesn't seem to care about the danger or the pain in a situation as long as what needs to be done gets done.
And that's one of many reasons why I love him.
Anyway I could list many more but I've become a wall of text as it is. I just want to know who else you think should be on the list, I'd really like to hear your suggestions.
