500 Episodes

This is a momentous occasion for any series: reaching 500 episodes. One Piece now has more episodes than all the Dragonball series combined, more episodes than The Simpsons, and it's still going as strong as ever.

Do you think this strengthens or weakens the appeal of the series abroad? What do you expect to see in the next 500 episodes?

Abroad I'm sure it can intimidate company's that might want to buy, dub, and release the series, as 500 episodes is a LOT and as we know with Toei's involvement with Funimation here, the episodes are expensive.

However I mean 500 episodes is amazing! You know a show is good if it's got 500 episodes.

Actually, all of the Dragon Ball series combined (not counting Kai) is 508 episodes… so One Piece is almost there.

But really, I think this high episode count can actually scare new fans… Some might not want to go through all of it, y'know? As for those of us who are caught up and keeping up with it, it's definitely a treat!

I love that there are so many episodes. Only problem might be, that for newbies it could seem as an unreachable goal to actually go through 500 episodes with still more to come.

I think it does absolutely nothing. Only tv deals where there are none would strengthen it, and only a fall in quality or removal of tv in places where it is aired would weaken it.

^^ pretty sure that was a rumor. Could be wrong though. I think Oda only wanted to do One Piece for 5 years initially and no matter how you slice it 1000 chapters won't fit into five years.

Yea the idea of watching 500 episodes is daunting for anyone who starts watching this anime. But the thought of sitting through 500 episodes of pure anime excellence just makes it to hard to pass up.

I heard Funi wanted to realease movie 10, maybe that's it? It'd be pretty freakin epic if they got a hold of that film, its a fan favorite I think any ways, that and release season four and five on DVD, now you've got me excited

Oh HAHA Silly me, I was getting all caught up hereXD I'll just buy the season for my BirthDay, its coming up pretty soon. Unless, they put season one and three together, those are the ones I do not have, already have season two.

Most of the time I tell people to try One Piece they say "it's HOW LONG? Ughhhhhhh." But I try to convince them it's worth it all the same. Really, for people who haven't seen it it looks like a very daunting and time consuming project. The length really only great for people who are already fans, and for us it's amazingly awesomely spectacular.

I started watching One Piece a couple weeks ago (On 408 right now) – and I love the fact that there's are (er, was) so many episodes, because I could keep going and going and going. :)

Will be a sad day when I catch up and have to wait weekly, lol.

500 episodes of a series is awesome. 500 episodes of a series that has consistently maintained its quality (I'm talking of the manga but still, by extension the anime) – and quite arguably improved over time -- is something else.

But enough of the formal sentences this is fucking awesome! 500 episodes, 500 more. So many things to look forward to... Whatever Oda's got planned with Vegapunk, Revolutionaries being an added element to the OPverse, Doflamingo... just Doflamingo, etc etc.

And it took me about 6 months and that was with around 7-10 episodes a day lol.

When I discovered One Piece, I started with the anime. It started with 2 episodes per night. Soon I was watching like 5-6 episodes per night. I remember one night I stayed up until like 4 or 5am, dunno how many episodes I watched that night. I did that a few times, actually.

It only took me like.. maybe 2 months? And when I was finished, I was hungry for MOAR. I didn't want it to end, of course! I then read the manga up to the latest chapter, and THEN I went back and watched filler episodes I skipped. It never felt like an impossible task, I needed entertainment, and OP certainly delivered.

A friend of mine who doesn't really like anime just started with OP after I told him so much that it's a great show.
The big number of episodes always scared him of but when he was sick one day he said to himself "What the hell" and now he is a fan of this.

It's hard for newbies to catch up but if they give it a shot they'll recognize quick that the anime is worth almost every minute

Great, (almost) 500 episodes of horrendous pacing, horrible art style, and SHITTY filler. But that proves that even though the One Piece Anime has past through A LOT of horrible things for more than a decade, yet it still going as strong as ever!
