Just curious, lately I've been waiting for the scanlation to come out so I don't ruin anything.
How do you read One Piece
-
-
Scanlations only for me..
-
I read scantlations and the Viz version (which is slow, so I read the scans ^^ ).
-
i read both viz and scans. i buy the manga from viz so that i would support oda
-
I read it right to left. :D
Seriously, I get the Viz mangas because I'm not learning Japanese (only to have to spend $10 a copy rather than 6.50 or so from online discounters), and not willing to download fan-translations at 30-50M a volume.
Also, the whole 'Support Oda' line. Part of me figures it would be funnier to send him a fan-note saying "I'm reading scanlations, here's your cut" and tape a 500-yen coin to it. :D
-
I read the scanlations, but I'm hoping to buy the Japanese volumes from Kinokuniya Bookstores when I get some money.
-
i look at the raws and read translations of new chapters and then i get shonen jump so i can see the pictures big and clear later
-
ill read the raw version with a translation page(cant explain) and i buy the viz version (so far i got volume 7 but i cant find volume 4!!) to support and i read translated chapters on a msn group ^ ^
-
I started reading the raws and their translations lately.. and also #null
-
I read the scanlations and the finnish edition too, but if OP wouldn't have been translated to my language I would buy Viz version.
-
I read all of the above. I started out reading scanlations only, but when I finally caught up, I was too impatient to wait for the scanlations, so I've been reading scripts ever since NULL moved to IRC. I'd like to go and download the rest of the scanlations from where I left off, though, I just haven't gotten around to it.
And I buy the Viz manga to support One Piece. That and it's kind of nice to have a hard copy. I could buy the tankos, in fact, I was thinking of getting some next time I go to Mitsuwa. -
At this moment in time just the Viz manga. I like being able to hold a book in my hand rather than reading it off a screen. While I could get the tankos, I have a strong feeling they'd cost alot more than the Viz books (I get off Amazon.co.uk for about £4). Plus I can't read Japanese and don't really feel like looking at a script everytime I turn a page in the book or writing the translations all over my book.
However if Viz starts to take a turn for the worse then I may start to check out alternative versions.
Plus like Bounty1Berry, I want to send some money to Oda and try and increase One Piece's position in the US sales charts (which to the best of my knowledge sadly isn't as good as where it is in the Japanese chart).
-
I read the raws with the online translations, and I read scanlations. I'm a little too poor to buy any manga at the moment.
-
Raw and translated scans so I can keep up with the story (since it'll take years at the rate our SJ going) and english version of the manga just out of curosity and how much Viz will keep most of the original script.
-
Just raws. No script or anything, just raws. :E
-
Scanslations all the way for me. No money to buy anything (not that you could find the OP manga around here anyway).. and I read the raws with translations when they come out just cause I'm too curious and impatient to wait for null (delete em afterwards).
-
I buy the Japanese books and.. read them. Though, I'll admit that, more than once, I've pulled up Stephen's scripts to help me out.
Oh, and Caracal, VIZ's volumes cost about twice as much as a Japanese volume. So uh, yeah.
-
I read my friend's Chinese Shonen jump magazines whenever I get the chance to. I read the scanlations when if my friend's missing a certain book, or if I don't get what they are saying in the Chinese version.
-
Added another choice for my use: None of the above: Specify.
I realized I'm too busy to read it twice and ended up not even opening Tanko when I buy (past two volumes are still wrapped in plastic T_T) or appreciate it as much as I should be, so I started to limit myself from reading Raws. Now I wait until Tanko is published, then finally I can read it!
It applies to everything but Bleach. But I might be doing the same for Bleach soon >.>
-
scanlations up until now. now i read every new chapter raw with a translation cuz the scanlations are kinda slow =(.
-
I read One Piece using my EYES! And…all of the above choices, I guess.
-
from right to left. oh that's not the question.
raw, ooshis's script,stephen's script , scanslation.
-
i answered 2 of the above, but i also buy the brazilian volume so should be all of the above. -_-
-
I get the raw and look at the pretty pictures (I can manage a word here and there and that's about it) until I get a trans in my hands. Then I go back over it with the trans a few times. Eventually I see a scnalation floating around for download and add it to the archive to be re-read at my leisure.
I buy Shonen Jump US (soooo embarassed) but I usually skip One Piece. And I'm usually about 4 months behind on reading them anyway (like all my comics any more).
-
I read the scanlations at first, then when I caught up with the latest chapters, I started reading the RAW with translation.(This actually sort of improves my japanese, along with playing super robot wars games)
I'm also buying and reading the Indonesian version of One Piece to support Oda and read the SBS sections -
I sometimes read scanlations, I would read raw manga when new chapter comes out. I also have 7 Viz version manga volumes and I'm currently waiting for volume 8. Finding a Kinokuniya bookstore in Colorado Springs, I'll like to find one and buy Tankos but if it's in Denver then I have to wait for a rigth time to travel to Denver.
-
I read scanlations only..
-
i read raw+translation;also scanlation. but now i only read scanlation sometimes. because they are slow.
-
i only read raws but i voted for raws + translations…. raws are the best, learn japanese you'll appreciate it hella more
-
The scantalations from a certain MSN online group…(<3 for you guys)
I downloaded from stoptazmo for most of Alabasta, but that simply took too long.
-
i look at the raw then i read the ooshi's translation while looking at the raw several times and then i wait for null's release and i re-read it (several times, too)
-
Many methods….
1.Raw with translation: My first taste of every new chapter
2.Scans: I read the series this way first
3.Shonen Jump: My first exsposure to One Piece, now I just browse it to see how they're doing.
4.Tankobans with steven scripts: My present form of reading. I copy the scripts into the tankos.
ta-da! I can read Vol.12 in english! In book format! -
Always the raw with translation first because the translations no matter who is doing them are more coherent then the scanslations that still mess things up.
Afterwards I check the scanslations when they come out. Mainly because I want to have an idea about which sentenses belong to which bubbles. It is a little bit more eye-friendly when you both the text and the pic at the same time. That´s the only thing why I need my scanslations. Other then that I prefer a good script at any time.
-
I read the raw+translation, then scanlations and, when it comes out, the italian version of the manga :)
-
I read raw+translation and the swedish version
-
Scanlations and Viz for me.
-
I read one piece with a j…t in my mouth....
-

Are you talking about the Null scanlations? I think they're pretty good, plus the image quality is really good.

Are you talking about the Null scanlations? I think they're pretty good, plus the image quality is really good.
Well they are good but I definitely wouldn´t use their text for discussions since it still isn´t coherent. Even in this recent arc what they say about "Existing Ancient Weapons" or "the Ohara Devils" is not correct.
I´m not saying that their work is bad, but in such situations it doesn´t fit a manga as One Piece since it includes lots of foreshadowing elements that make it so great. And unfrotunally as much as I enjoy reading Null´s work, it´s not coherent. Just check what they´ve written in Blueno´s statement about the Buster Call in ch. 374. He refers to the Marine as the Navy. This didn´t happen the first time.
Well maybe this isn´t a biggie to you guys but to me it says that if they can´t even get this thing right that has been evidently proven in romaji that it is Marine then what can I expect about the really important stuff?. I´m not mocking the work. It would be good for manga´s like DragonBall where you don´t care for foreshadowing elements but the scanslations definitely don´t include half of the important stuff that makes One Piece. It may be harsh but it is like that. =(
