@Saturnchild:
God this is incredibly annoying. I can handle flashbacks even if they are two or three episodes but this is getting way overboad. Especially considering Ace is already dead. When they introduce Sabo again it better be an awesome storyline or I am going to be really pissed they wastes so much time on this crap. I would have much rather seen a glimpse of how the rest of the Straw Hats are training for these two years
"God this is incredibly annoying. I can handle flashbacks even if they are two or three episodes but this is getting way overboard."–From this tone, I can assume that you don't even like flashbacks to begin with. The fact that you can "handle" them if they are sparse. You are taking the wrong approach in viewing these episodes. Obviously it's up to you on what approach to take on viewing episodes but this approach is circumventing any entertainment value you could receive from these episodes.
"Especially considering Ace is already dead."--This either tells me you only care for action, exciting scenes and/or you don't see the point in developing Ace further as a character, since that he is already dead. That is untrue if you chose the latter because this flashback furthers Ace's role as a martyr.
"When they introduce Sabo again it better be an awesome storyline or I am going to be really pissed they wastes so much time on this crap."--Um...yea.
"I would have much rather seen a glimpse of how the rest of the Straw Hats are training for these two years"--I would definitely like that too, I think they will at least show glimpses because they did in the manga. And it's quite possible[speculation] that they will elaborate on the strawhats training as a filler option.
Another member speculated that your reaction was indicative of a "anime-watcher" which would justify your surprise in the direction of the anime in recent episodes? Uh reading the manga, I wasn't disappointed with the flashback arc. Ace was great and all but this arc solidified his martyr role for me. Before this arc, I didn't care much about the war arc. Yes Ace was his brother and Luffy cares much about Ace and maybe this is enough for some OP fans but where was my connection to Ace? Aside from the superfluous Ace is so cool, [plus his code and honor] there wasn't much to care for Ace. Yes there was the whole Ace found his own father in WB but this arc furthered it by showing his isolation as a child.
I don't know what to say Saturnchild. You are missing out on a lot of great elements of the story just because of your approach. Obviously it is up to you what approach you take and if it really bothers you so much, watch the preview and if it's still about ASL then just don't watch it?
@thewonderer:
I don't get this. It seems most OP readers are like this. I guess this is why One Piece is tons more popular in Japan. Actions good and all but in my opinion, emotion and actual character development>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>action. I don't understand why its not like that for other people. Well whatever, excellent episode
Yes, I am on the same boat.
