So we've finally made it, huh?

516: ''Luffy's Training Begins - See You in Two Years at the Promised Place''

Hopefully this is the last time the Narrator narrates it.
Holy crap I think I just got a fangasm. I am so psyched for next week!
-
Wow, what?
They're not gonna rest up?
come on! 2 years in 1 weak? lolzzzz^^ I mean seriously, for manga oda rested for like a month;;;
hrm, guess anime industry's not like manga industry huh. []
Oh, and I really hope they would knock it off with Onepiece Op1 song, they've spammed the hell out of it and its not even a good opening to begin with -_-

Well, as someone point it out already, We are! is One Piece anthem, sort of. It can be considered the only song made in its entirety for this story. All the other openings, while, they can relate to the saga they appear in, they are not made 100% for One Piece, unlike We Are!, so its the only fitting song for the end of part 1.
And, it could wery well be the last time, in a long while we hear it, since its safe to assume, We Go! will be One Piece flagship song for the New World… -
its not even a good opening to begin with -_-

Why would you dislike We Are. It's the main theme of the series! I might like other ops better, but We Are is THE song for One Piece.
-
I really really hope the "We Go" would be THE NEW One Piece flagship song for the New World!
It better live up to "We Are's" expectations! -

I dunno, I've got about three different versions of it on my ipod. Only Bink's Sake beats it out in that department. Also, as others have already said, it's THE song for One Piece.
And shush! We don't want to have to wait for the next episode. It's bad enough there'll be no manga this week, let alone taking the anime away - especially such a highly anticipated episode! Don't jinx it!
This episode was pretty good, though Boa nearly fell out of her dress a few times. There's one point where you really should have been able to see her nipple, it was so bad. >.<; The end was just perfect and it was great seeing the colour-spread done anime style! Also, the explanation on haki was pretty good too. I especially like the nose grab scene! ^.^ GO TO NEW WORLD!
-

Hell no.
It's the show's theme song. That's like saying the Simpsons shouldn't use their theme song in their openings anymore, or that the Jurassic Park theme song shouldn't be played in any of their movies.
-
Really? YMMV then, I've been enjoying the fishman arc, but I have to say it reads a LOT better all in one shot than week by week.
oh and the ending We Are! montage made me grin stupidly for its entire duration.
THANK YOU
People who dislike FI as of now probably havn't read it in one go. Ignorant fans don't realize OP isn't meant to be read week by week

I have never read an arch in one go, but am always satisfied with oda's week by week chapters, he put's so much detail into his chaps weekly, so i guess if i was to read them in one go it would be even better.
on topic
A nice sending off, man words can't describe what part 1 has been like, if part 2 can be on the same level or even higher then boi, does anyone feel the second part is like oda is starting a new manga.
preview looks beastly i wonder if someone could have leaked the episode early before next week.
-
Loved the episode, Rayleigh explaining Haki was as awesome as I expected it to be and the "We Are" montage was a really great way to finish part 1. Can't wait to see the reunion of the crew and Fishman Island.
-
The animation in next weeks preview looks FANTASTIC! Hopefully that type of quality will remain constant throughout the New World arc.
Also, I posted this in the other threads, but since there wasn't a recap of the full series at the end, and that everyone is wanting one, it's possible we'll get one at the beginning of next week's episode, like what Dragon Ball Z Kai's first few minutes were like:
-
Love Nakatani's artwork. The montage was really good. I'm excited for next week's episode.
-
next week episode looks awesome.
GO TO NEW WORLD!
-
Epic episode. A new adventure starts.
I loved they animated my favourite color spread.
-
This episode was fantastic and the montage was an excellent way to end the first half. I loved Luffy at the very end, THAT was the attitude I love for him to have!
Beautiful close-up of Robin at the end of the montage, she would have looked more better with the tan, but I understand why that's gone.
Now ON TO THE NEW WORLD!
-
THANK YOU

All I know is that if I find out some day that people bitched during excellent arcs such as Sabaody, Impel Down, Marineford, etc. then I'm going to be reading the forum's "verdict" much less.
And One Piece really is meant to be read all in one go, but it can certainly maintain its weekly readability just fine. Fishman Island has just been odd that way. It's either almost over or is just getting started, but it's certainly pretty weird weekly when it doesn't feel like much is happening lately. -
I loved this episode, espeically the montage at the end. Next episode looks great. I'm off work this week so it's going to be a long one for me.
We should have seen Hancock nipples in this one.
-

Er…then why is it released week by week? Pretty sure it technically is intended to be read week by week.
-
Oh, and I really hope they would knock it off with Onepiece Op1 song, they've spammed the hell out of it and its not even a good opening to begin with -_-
I think you're with the minority here. Most fans love the first opening including me.
-
YES! the montage at the end sweetend the tea. The only problem I have is that Rayleigh's haki looks more like a haki blast than a shockwave.Don't they know we arent trying to turn OP into DBZ….or are you Oda? >.>
-

Money, dear boy. Or more specifically, publishing contract requirements.
Unlike the earlier more self-contained arcs of OP which do better weekly, the Fishman Island arc appears to be more complex and larger in scope. It definitely deals with a much more serious underlying message.
But as you know, One Piece is publishes on Shonen Jump weekly so the story has to be split into weekly segments which IMHO it isn't suited for. It's like trying to split a story into 15-20 pages per chapter when it was written with longer chapter sizes in mind.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Just because it needs to be told week by week, doesn't mean it needs to be adjusted to fit. Any smart OP fan would realize thats been the case for the whole series (sans marineford, impel down)
-
Wow, People are already hating the Fishmen Island arc? Do they realize how many plot points that were introduced in the arc that has not been tackled yet?
! -What did Kizaru want from Arlong?
-Joy Boy
-The story behind Noah
-Caribou setting his eyes on Shirahoshi
-Shirely's prediction
! And I think I forgot some more…Moreover, Just like someone said a while ago, the arc until now is actually much better if you read in one go.
-
Honestly, I enjoyed FI more as a weekly product than in one read (I've done both). Some time to relax between issues allowed me to ignore some of the frenetic pacing and constant need for further exposition. So far, it's reminded me of Thriller Bark in that it seems to be too far on the "manic" end of the spectrum thus far, and I'm not a Thriller Bark fan.
Still, TB redeemed itself from the point Kuma showed up, so I'm not willing to declare the arc dead yet. And besides, even if it's not one of my favorite arcs, I'm still having a blast with it, and I think it's an arc that suits the anime very well.

It would be nice, but you'd probably be disappointed if that's what you'd be expecting. The next episode is being directed by the character designer of the series so everyone's gonna look as great as they can be for the first episode of the timeskip. There's no telling how they'll look after that…although I don't think the director doing the episode after the next one is bad.

Theres nothing about this arc dead. I don't see how reading it in one go doesn't take care of need for further exposition. As for pacing, i still have no idea what this means. How its spaced out? Who cares…..Like honestly again don't see how reading it in go doesn't take care of this.
-
I'm going to miss Fight Together. It's easily my favorite opening since Believe.
-
GⓍ TO NEW WORLD
that's the closest symbol i could find, haha. man, i made my gf start watching OP and we just got to shabaody but yesterday there were HUGE posters with the new character designs and big letters saying "SHINSEKAI" in kanji, haha, i was like "DON'T LOOK!!!" tho i guess it's fair, if you follow the manga or anime, you gotta kno by now that it's coming…
-
One thing I want to add s well… I really loved the Jinbei scene where Luffy said to him, show me your face
-
Oh, and I really hope they would knock it off with Onepiece Op1 song, they've spammed the hell out of it and its not even a good opening to begin with -_-
You not liking the song doesn't change the fact that it is One Piece's most famous opening. Even if you hate We Are you should be smart enough to realize why they would play it.
And Yuugi's Black Magician, I read your post before you deleted it. If you feel so strongly against the Fishman Island arc that you think Oda should actually just end the series right after it, then I can't help but wonder why you even bother to continue reading.

Fair enough. I do agree that the pace has been different from other arc. Personally I prefer the new faster pacing, but I can see how someone used to the normal pacing can find that jarring.
For me the appeal in FI has been the strong characterization and background stories of the secondary characters, plus the excellent humour. Plot-wise, some of the other arcs have been better, but that's not to say that FI's plot has been bad, just a little convoluted. I wouldn't say it has been the best arc ever so far, but it certainly does not deserve the flak it's been getting.
-
What a nostalgic episode this week. Minus the Hancock part and Luffy looking younger it was perfect. The "We Are" at the end really set the mood for part 2. I know I'm going to tear up a bit when they are finally all back together.
I now have a better understanding of haki from watching the anime than reading the manga. I suppose that could of been a translation problem or just reading insane forum discussions.
I am looking forward to next week.

Ah damn, I deleted it for a reason. I didn't want to put up with others' opinions. Anyhow, I keep reading the story in the vain hope he improves, but with Oda's usual trick of "introduce something and do nothing with it for five years, bring it back and act like I never forgot about it even though that's not very impressive" I doubt that'll happen anytime soon.

You didn't have to delete your post, we all take opinions under balanced consideration here. Instead of reading it in the vain hope that he improves, I suggest taking a break from it and relieving the stress this story creates for you. Take a break from posting about the current story as well, just take a fresh year, or five, breather. Who knows, he might be up to your standard by then.

One little perk about this episode was that we got to see Luffy using Gear 2 in his signature clothes -- the ones he had at the beginning of the series. I don't think we've ever seen him use the gears in those, unless it was in a filler. It was introduced in Enies Lobby, and he's been wearing a whole spectrum of colors since then. This was Toei's last chance to do it, and they delivered. Props to them for that little easter egg.
-
Oh, I also gotta say I love the selection of music in this episode. Not just the We Are in the end. A lot of the music is from the East Blue arc, all really nice.
and WOW, I didn't think anyone would hate the Fishman Island arc so much as to actually want the series to end right there with no closure to all the numerous plot threads. It's not like the arc is a complete departure from the story and themes of the series. I just feel like many readers are still reeling from the War and have forgotten than One Piece isn't really completely about action, though there are certainly legitimate complaints and all.
-
Except for some pacing problems, Fishman Island isn't that bad of an arc.
Hell, I'd even say it became very good in the past couple of months. But let's not forget that this is the anime section.
There's already a thread in the manga section for you guys who want to discuss Fishman Island. -
I think you're with the minority here. Most fans love the first opening including me.
Indeed, the irony is stunning. lol
anywho.. We Go eh? I'm looking forward to it, so sick and tired of F'ing 'We Are' -_-
Jesus, FINALLY! a new theme song!
-
I've been stalking this thread for awhile, excuse me for doing so. But I want to come out of the dark and say that this episode was a nice little send off indeed. It wasn't SUPAH' or anything of that caliber, but it was indeed a good episode. :) The ending was filled with nostalgia! I loved it! But I think they should of made it longer. The feeling would of lasted longer. Man, so there really is people who don't like 'We Are'? -sad face- It's such a light hearted theme. Not too many series have that.
Hey, Fishman Island isn't the best Arc I've read, but I still enjoy it. OP is actually beginning to feel more like an adventure story again! The War arc was all about fighting and action. Not really much for traveling, adventure, and new experiences. And the straw-hats are back together! Isn't their interaction enough?!
I don't like to be negative on things so I guess that's why I'm saying all that, but I do feel that Fishman Island is like a breather arc where we can all relax and enjoy seeing such a nice bubbly story unfold. See if you get that, heh heh~ (Oh! But yes, shit is starting to go down In FI! wooo!)
-
I love how it says "Go to the New World", yet the story isn't actually reaching the New World next week (or for a while to come). Does that make FI a special brand of filler then? XD

I figured. I wouldn't be the type of poster to tell you that you're wrong for disliking the arc or anything like that, but you should really consider at least taking a break from OP. Especially since that wasn't the first post I read form you where you took this kind of stance against the series. I understand if you're just not crazy about the arc, but your posts seem to hint at more of a problem with OP in general. Only way to help that would be by stepping back, but that's up to you. I got annoyed waiting for news on the dub a couple of weeks ago and just stopped going to the FUNi board. It's really the best thing to do since these things don't matter that much.
Can't speak for Oda obviously, but he has said that he's made hints to certain things that he intended following up on a lot sooner than he actually did. Combine that with the fact that he's been saying OP was at it's half point since Alabasta and it's quite clear he's not waiting long to introduce certain things on purpose to try and "impress" anyone. I think he gets sucked into the story and sorta loses track of time.

Quote for truth, took the words right out of my mouth. The man who admitted that he can not direct movies after attempting to do Strong World while writing Marineford is not the type who would brag about that type of thing. He admits his own faults all the time. He had Blackbeard's design in his mind since before the series began; he doesn't introduce and leave it hanging because "omg that takez so much talant", but he introduces it and then gets caught up in other things and puts it on a 'waiting list'. One Piece is his life's work, he wants to do everything he can with it, so certain things are bound to get delayed.

Anime and Manga Differences
- In the manga, Rayleigh is the only one who fights the elephant. In the anime, Luffy does a quick attempt withGear Second, but fails.
- In the anime, Luffy runs with Rayleigh and promises to his crew, Ace, and Sabo that he will get stronger.
- The beginning all the Straw Hats' training is shown in the anime with We Are! playing as background music.
Trivia
- The ending which usually says "To Be Continued", this time says "Go To New World".
- The way each Straw hat looked in the recap at the end of the episode, was similar to how they looked in the cover of chapter 516.
- This is the last episode in the first half of the series.
-
Did you copy and paste that from the One Piece Wikia?
-
More Anime and Manga Differences
- There's no break between the last ep of part 1 and the first of part 2; the manga had a month-long one that was well worth the wait.
- Um, some of the color and animation of key sequences?
- Oh! The music!
- Ha, I'll stop.
