      So this may be ridiculous, but I haven't found a topic relating to this on the forum.

      I've seen lots of people mistakingly going about with "Sabaody" or "Shabondy" island as a means to translate the Island's name into romaji.

      The real meaning of シャボン is soap. It comes from the French "savon" which was invented in that country and makes bubbles.
      Therefore shabon dama means savon balls -> soap bubbles.
      And shabondy means savon-ish -> soapy.

        We KNOW that, duh.
        Any toddler with rudimentary knowledge of Japanese know what a shabondama is.

        It was ODA HIMSELF who chose to use the spelling "Sabaody", so it sticks. K? End of discussion.
