Scumslip if I ever saw one….
-
Sorry bout being late. Anime Boston is very intense. Anywho, PM got.
-
Okay guys, is it okay if we just wait a day or two more until Foolio is available? I know the game has been postponed a lot already, but it seems kind of stupid to start the game when we know at least one of seven won't be able to participate on the first day.
So I suggest we start the game in about 48 hours, so we can start with everyone here.If anyone is against this plan, please speak now or forever hold your peace~
-
Sounds good for me too, as I'm at Anime Boston
-
It's super convenient because I am also really busy doing all this important stuff in my life.

The town bell struck noon over a dust-ridden, smouldering little town, somewhere on a summer island in the Grand Line. The signs, hanging outside the local liquor store, barber and blacksmith would have squeaked, swinging in the wind, if everything wasn't so still. The scorching white sun that stood directly above the town beat down mercilessly on everything there, from rattle snakes to leather boots. Inside the only pub, conveniently placed beside the wooden chapel, a group of people was gathered around a whiskey-splashed table. There were seven of them, and they were looking at eachother with bloodlust in their eyes. The landlord stood behind his bar, quietly watching them. On a stool in front of the bar sat the sheriff, who had called them all here.
"This can't go on any longer," she said, casually playing with the revolver in her hands. "In our small town, things have been going badly. Innocent people have died, cattle has disappeared, banks were mysteriously robbed. It's obvious that these acts come from higher up: the town committee. Yes, that's you guys. There are traitors among you.
To save the town, I will put the law in your hands. From today on, you have to try and find out who these traitors are, and get rid of them… definitively."
The committee started murmuring upon this news. The sheriff loudly tapped her revolver on the bar to get their attention again.
"Take as long as you need, and use whichever means you want. But be careful, things might be over for us if you make too many bad decisions." She nodded in the direction of the town square. "The gallows are prepared."
With those words, the sheriff hopped off the bar stool, tapped her hat to the bartender, and walked out without giving the group another look, leaving them on their own to resolve this matter of life and death.[HIDE]MAFIA XVIII: Dust and Bullets

7 players
1-2 possible mafiaQuestion for everyone, do you think the title of the game actually holds any merit to the gameplay?
-
I think the title is just a reference to the story that Mrs. Iceburg has cooking. Though I do think that there might be some hidden mechanics to this game. This will also lead into a question for everyone: Do you think that there are any hidden mechanics to this game, and if so what might they be?
-
7 players
1-2 possible mafiaQuestion for everyone, do you think the title of the game actually holds any merit to the gameplay?
The title does make me think about the possibility of vigilantes but I really wouldn't read too much into that. Especially because there's only 7 of us. What I do think is relevant is this:
@Mrs.:
There are 7 players, of which 2 are Mafia.
So, yeah.
@Holy:
I think the title is just a reference to the story that Mrs. Iceburg has cooking. Though I do think that there might be some hidden mechanics to this game. This will also lead into a question for everyone: Do you think that there are any hidden mechanics to this game, and if so what might they be?
Again, as there are so few players I don't expect there to be any big deviation mechanics-wise. Apparently you do though. Wanna share?
-
It's really just an assumption. The past few games we've been given the bare minimum for a mafia game. Since this is the first one in a while to apparently have some sort of story to it, it makes me think that Iceburg and Kmo are putting some good effort into this one. Therefore, I think that the probability of there being hidden mechanics is fairly good.
-
This chatter over flavor is meaningless speculation, Shuhan and Holy. I don't think a moderator's choice of title nor your feelings about it pertains to Town finding Mafia today, so I suggest you choose some other topic of small talk.
I have two relevant questions. If we only have five Townies, and four people posted so far, how likely do you think it is that we four are all Town? Also:
5 Town, 2 Mafia
-mislynch, mafia kill-
3 Town, 2 Mafia (Lylo)5 Town, 2 Mafia
-no lynch, mafia kill-
4 Town, 2 Mafia (Mylo)We either lynch today or we no lynch twice. What sounds better to you? My answer is above. I'm also not waiting for everyone to post before I vote.
Vote Lynch: Huschel

Question for everyone, do you think the title of the game actually holds any merit to the gameplay?
Seems story related, unless you think dust can be used a lethal weapon. Or are you Crocodile?
It's really just an assumption. The past few games we've been given the bare minimum for a mafia game. Previous games really have no bearing on current ones as far as setup is concerned. The gun mentioned in the opening, however, may be something that comes into play. Also willing to bet someone here is a gunsmith.
5 Town, 2 Mafia
-mislynch, mafia kill-
3 Town, 2 Mafia (Lylo)5 Town, 2 Mafia

4 Town, 2 Mafia (Mylo)We either lynch today or we no lynch twice. What sounds better to you? My answer is above. I'm also not waiting for everyone to post before I vote.
Vote Lynch: Huschel
I choose option 1, a mislynch and a mafia kill are far better than two mafia kills.
Vote Lynch: Bogart
-
Still need an answer for the first question, Wooden. I won't assume.
-
1)I'm sure one of the mafia has posted by now.
2)I'd rather mislynch than do nothing at all.
As much as I'd love to tango with either of you, I'm gonna go after larger prey
**vote lynch: Harvady Alumnus [/ b]
Also, I like that you are the be all end all Bogart…I ask no stupid questions.**

Still need an answer for the first question, Wooden. I won't assume.
Very unlikely, but certainly possible.

There are no stupid questions, Shuhan. I'm offering my opinion to you as a response.
How about this, then. Of the three people with votes on them, who do you think is mafia? Of the three people voting, who is mafia?
-
It ain't mine, but I'm gonna use it anyhow.
! 1. Shuhan's pace-setting speculation to title addresses all players.
2. Holy answers question posed in 1. Asks for all players to guess-the-mod.
3. Huschel answers both posts 1 and 2 with doubt.
4. Holy reinforces his stance that town should concern themselves with things that cannot be proven.
5. Bogart denounces posts 1 and 2. Asks about mafia presence in early game. Reminds town of 5:2 ratio. Votes Huschel.
6. Wooden answers both posts 1 and 2. Suggests existence of Gunsmith. Advocates lynch. Votes Bogart.
7. Bogart reiterates first question in post 5.
8. Shuhan answers Bogart's questions. States moderate stance on mafia activity. Votes Harvady.
9. Wooden responds to post 7. States doubt on activity of mafia.
10. Vote count.
11. Bogart reiterates stance from first part of post 5.I don't see the point of the first question. If the word mafia's in the title that I suppose it's relevant to th' gameplay. The second question is askin' WAY too much of Day One. Even if these hidden mechanics exist, yer expectin' to see 'em at work this early? We can't defend against things we don't see. It's a waste of time to try.
"Maybe the seventh voter will be killed!" In the time it took me to write and think that up, I could'a wrote why yer mafia fer wastin' time. Better than I did, anyhow.
If y'all wanna speculate powers, of all things, then by all means, be more forward in yer communicatin'. D1 claims, why not? I'm callin' dibs on Snake-Oil Salesman.
Yes we'll lynch. 48 hours ain't a lotta time. Seein' as only Foolio's left to post, the Mafia has most certainly posted by now. An' by that, I mean both of 'em.
Vote Lynch: Holygamer999

Alright I'm back, thanks for waiting on me Iceburg!
Really puzzled by Shuhan and Holy's opening posts. They are both immediately jumping on the title in what can only be described as information phishing – Shuhan being the more subtle of the two.
To me, Holy's post reads like this: "Guys there's a hidden mechanic! (Wait, I have to make this seem theoretical and not conclusive...) Guys, do you think there may be any hidden mechanics, and if so, what? (wink wink nudge nudge)"
Either Holy knows something, is wildly speculating for no reason at all, or is Mafia trying to… distract people? Confuse people? I don't know, but that seems like the least likely option. Holy: explain yourself. Your logic about a story meaning hidden mechanics is really weak.
As for Shuhan, I don't know if he saw some resemblance in the title to his own role or if he was just bored and being meta. Or, he could be scum and is afraid of the possibility of guns?
Wooden, you're also convinced of some gunplay-related action? I mean, you discount the possibility that previous games have any deductive bearing but then you go and assume the flavor text is highly significant? What makes your assertion any more logical? You guys need to spill the beans…
To answer Bogart's questions:
-
Well. There are 6 players other than me, of which 2 are scum. So 1/3 of those people are scum, and 4 posted. Odds are a mafia posted.
-
Lynch today, but I want some more talking first. Because stuff has been said that needs to be talked about.
Harvady: Nice avatar and roleplay, but going after Holy like that seems just too easy, especially coming from you. Do you seriously think Holy's scum?

How about this, then. Of the three people with votes on them, who do you think is mafia? Of the three people voting, who is mafia?
Huschel, Bogart and Harvady
For the first question I have to go with Bogart as the more likely choice. I'm surprised that no one has given any reason for their votes which makes it hard to see their points. And Bogart and Wooden even seemed to agree with their lynch choices as far as I can tell.
Bogart, Wooden and Shuhan
Bogart again for weird voting habits. Wooden did the same thing. Shuhan just voted for a big player without any reasoning at all. Take your pick.
This was weird to answer with the constrictions. I'm just gonna through all the players now:
Shuhan: Can you explain your vote? Bogart's and Wooden's targets had at least posted at the time so I assume there was something there they didn't like.
Bogart/Wooden: see above
Harvady: I don't know what to make of your proposition to claim roles already. I assume it's a joke?
Foolio: So you're pretty much saying that you think that Holy has some information about the setup? I still think that's unlikely.
Holy: I also want you to explain your first post again. If you do know something you might want to consider not taking it to your grave. Until then:Vote Lynch: Holygamer999

For those of you that have played with me a while, you know I'm not very good at generating conversation or asking questions. First post I made was me really just trying to do a good job this time around and generate some sort of conversation. I don't know if there are any hidden mechanics or not, but was just speculating. As for Bogarts questions. 1. Same as Foolio. 2. No lynch. This has always been my stance no matter what side I'm on and it always will be. I don't see a point in killing someone off first day without having a strong enough reason to. Also
Vote Lynch: Harvady Alumnus

Foolio: So you're pretty much saying that you think that Holy has some information about the setup? I still think that's unlikely.
Well, I actually said that's how it sounded, whether or not it's true. The most likely scenario would be that his role gave him some insight.
Right now we are at lynch - 1 so nobody hammer yet.
Shuhan, you got on the Holy wagon real fast for my taste. Tempted to vote you.
Also, I really do think we should all role claim. I woke up this morning thinking I'm going to play an all-or-nothing game. I have some ideas, but they will work the best if everyone claims. Now, here's the part you're not going to like – I want everyone to claim before I do. If you refuse, I'll still claim before the day is up, but it will make you anti-town in my book. The reason I want others to go before me is that based on my role I will be able to call out dirty stinking liars who try to fake claim, but I can't have people know exactly what it is until then.
Like I said I will end up claiming anyway, and we have under 24 hours so it needs to be somewhat expedited -- I will probably only give you guys 6 hours, because I do not want this day to end before we've had a reasonable chance to confer after I claim. I know it's ridiculous to ask you guys to trust me but you're only going to be reducing our chances to win if you don't participate, for reasons that will become more apparent after I claim.
-
It was not fast, I was watching Holy closely when he actually answered the ridiculous question I posed. He tries to interject a hidden mechanic when there is most likely no such thing. My confirmation was how he did a spectacular movement by flip flopping…in the same post…
-
And as for your idea Oiloof?
I'm a little pensive about it, it may be because I'm a little blue today…wish the rain would stop...

Well, I don't think you have anything to fear in particular, unless you're trying to hide something. With a small game like this and a low tolerance for mislynches it seems like a good idea even without my idea.
-
Harvady: Nice avatar and roleplay, but going after Holy like that seems just too easy, especially coming from you. Do you seriously think Holy's scum?
There's a two-in-seven chance that I'm right. I only had th' two posts to make up my mind, so there's more than a fair chance I'm wrong. Despite that, I'ma votin' him. He's in a position tha' mafia favors. Well he was anyhow.
If the ol' "one-active-one-passive" song and dance is playin', then fer sure, one of the first three posters is mafia. I didn't vote Shuhan on accounta' his propensity to votin'. Huschel didn't offer th' town anything worthwhile, but he didn't instigate a time waster neither.

Fer th' record, I like ya just fine. I believe in lynchin' everyday we're allowed. As it were stated, a NL behooves a second one. We take this chance. 2:7 > 0, y'know?
Well, I actually said that's how it sounded, whether or not it's true. The most likely scenario would be that his role gave him some insight.

I do agree with yer train-o'-thought. All the same, Holy needs ta claim seein' he's at L-1. If anybody should go first it's him. 'Sides, I already claimed.
-
Well, I think my vote will stay just a little bit longer. Wanting to lo lynch != lynching Harvady. I'm waiting for Holy's claim now but I'd be fine claiming afterwards.
Bogart: Who do you think is my scum buddy if you still believe me to be mafia?
Foolio: Same with Bogart. -
Bogart: Who do you think is my scum buddy if you still believe me to be mafia?
Foolio: Same with Bogart. What? I don't think I've as much as uttered your name so far. What makes you think I ever believed you to be mafia? What an odd thing to say… did I mention your scumbuddy and you got confused and thought I had actually mentioned you?
At any rate I am going to refrain from naming suspects until this claiming business is over with. So stop dilly-dallying and claim. I can understand wanting Holy to go first but if he doesn't show up reasonably soon you'll have to take more initiative. Not that this means you're off the hook, Holy. More than likely it means you'll be lynched without hesitation if you refuse to claim soon.
We have about 18.5 hours left, but I will be spending the last 6 or so of those hours asleep, so as far as I'm concerned we only have 12 hours left in the day, due to the aforementioned significance of my upcoming claim. So time is ticking.
-
…
No, that question was actually for Wooden who had voted for Bogart. Sorry.
Wooden: Who is your second pick for mafia besides Bogart (if he's still up there).
I'll be here for a little while longer but I guess I might as well say now that I'm Bulletproof.
-
I haven't decided yet if there's any relevance to your mistake, but time might tell. If you are Bulletproof, it would make your earlier statement a total bluff, insofar as "not reading into it:"
The title does make me think about the possibility of vigilantes but I really wouldn't read too much into that. Especially because there's only 7 of us.
I mean, being bulletproof is a near-guarantee that someone out there can shoot. Sadly for you, being bulletproof is a very mafia-friendly role.
-
Well, I wanted to put the idea of vigilantes out there but not immediately out my ability. Especially because I was afraid of people associating it with mafia.
-
If you're trying not to squirm, it isn't very convincing, Huschel.
Your question boils down to "why vote me". That you avoided saying it outright only makes it more suspicious. People's votes on Day One are usually for the same reason. The only difference between me and Wooden is that I voted you.
You clearly state that out of four people you think I'm mafia (plus there's already a vote on me) yet you vote the wagon with the easiest target. Looks like you're trying to have your cake and eat it too.
You're awfully worried about this. If this is a waste of time, why continue to draw attention to yourself?Foolio, you're gonna have to put me down for anti-town. As I don't know anything about powers, I can't endorse this mass-claim. Obviously I'm for a claim by the dead man walkin', but everyone else is just going along for the ride.
-
I'm just towns person that asked a fairly simple question. Just wanted to help generate conversation. Sorry it wasn't to your tastes, but there really wasn't any scummy intent behind my asking. And Harvady, reread my post because you misread it.
-
That didn't actually answer my question. Do you have any other suspects? Why would answering this be a waste of time? I agree that there's not much of a difference between yours and Wooden's votes which is why I asked you both.
I voted for Holy because every single one of his posts has made him more suspicious. With you it hadn't been much more than an inkling.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Is there a claim in there, Holy?
-
I thought there was. I'm it townie. No powers.
-
Holy: Why advocate a no lynch when you turn around and vote Harvady?
-
Foolio, you're gonna have to put me down for anti-town. As I don't know anything about powers, I can't endorse this mass-claim. Obviously I'm for a claim by the dead man walkin', but everyone else is just going along for the ride.
Can you perhaps rephrase this? I am confused. I presume the only thing anybody knows about powers is their own, and I presume you have one. Unless you're telling me here that you don't. How does that make claiming bad?
I'm just towns person that asked a fairly simple question. Just wanted to help generate conversation. Sorry it wasn't to your tastes, but there really wasn't any scummy intent behind my asking. And Harvady, reread my post because you misread it.
If you are town there is no reason I can think of for you not to claim. You are on the verge of death and the only thing that could potentially change minds here is your role – and refusing would be more likely to have the opposite effect of making people eager to off you. Is that what you want? Do you not see that I am trying to get information out of people to expose liars?
--- Update From New Post Merge ---
Oh, So posts happened while I was writing. Holy is claiming vanilla. Safest attempt at me not catching him fake-claiming, methinks. Shuhan, have you made up your mind yet?
-
I already claimed Oiloof…
-
Wooden, you're also convinced of some gunplay-related action? I mean, you discount the possibility that previous games have any deductive bearing but then you go and assume the flavor text is highly significant? What makes your assertion any more logical? You guys need to spill the beans…
You can get a lot more out of an opening post text than you can a title. There were two methods of killing hinted at in the text, the gun and the gallows. The gallows are clearly a homage to the town lynch. Which leaves the gun.
Bogart/Wooden: see aboveNot much behind it really, it was more or less just bait to see how he and everyone else would react.
…
No, that question was actually for Wooden who had voted for Bogart. Sorry.
Wooden: Who is your second pick for mafia besides Bogart (if he's still up there).
I'll be here for a little while longer but I guess I might as well say now that I'm Bulletproof.
Depends on your answer to the following. When are you bulletproof? Night? Day? Both?
I already claimed Oiloof…
You weren't exactly straightforward with it Shu.
As far as claiming is concerned, I don't really mind it, but only if it is a town consensus.
-
I already claimed Oiloof…
Well then you were too subtle for me (or I am not familiar enough with Mafia as a game) because I can't figure out if you were implying a role or not.
As far as claiming is concerned, I don't really mind it, but only if it is a town consensus.
Well. Harvady, Shuhan, Huschel, and Holy already claimed. I said I will at the end. Bogart is the only one who refused. That sounds like consensus to me. Out with it.
-
And as for your idea Oiloof?
I'm a little pensive about it, it may be because I'm a little bluetoday…wish the rain would stop...
I threw you a softball sized hint…
-
Okay, well to me blue means townie but I didn't get the implication of vanilla.
So far the interesting bits are we have 2 vanilla townie claims (Shuhan and Holy), and one refusal to claim (Bogart), unless it was actually a vanilla claim, but he hasn't clarified.
We also have a Bulletproof claim but no claim whatsoever relating to guns.
-
True enough. Guess I got a little heated in the moment.
unvote -
You're killing me here Woody.
Also the lack of mods to update the vote status.
-
Was kinda hoping Huschel would respond to my question first, but alas. I give out bulletproof vests. Hence why I question the tiger's claim, his answer to my question determines if I vote him or not.
-
Was kinda hoping Huschel would respond to my question first, but alas. I give out bulletproof vests. Hence why I question the tiger's claim, his answer to my question determines if I vote him or not.
I believe you. Your suspicion that there was a gunsmith would have been extremely odd, given that the much more natural assumption is vigilante, had you not extrapolated that from your own role as someone who gives out vests (which correlates to a gunsmith who gives out guns).
So. I doubt there is another townie out there who is bulletproof. Either Huschel is lying, or he's scum, or both.
I will claim. I am the vigilante. I have one bullet that I can use during the day. I was mostly bluffing about being able to sniff out liars, but I was hoping that with all this talk of guns, that the scum would burn themselves by claiming gun-related roles. Because I do not believe anyone else here has a gun; that would be way too risky in a game where two misfires/lynches would end the game for the town.
There are two seemingly logical courses of action right now. One is to shoot Huschel. Either he dies or he doesn't; this would verify his claim but not his alignment. Furthermore it could be a waste of my precious bullet.
The second logical course of action is for me to shoot Holy. If he flips scum we get another chance to lynch before a night kill. If he flips town, we no-lynch. I have a problem with this course of action though, which is that I don't particularly suspect Holy. He's the perfect scapegoat, and he has been acting pretty scummy, but I just don't peg him as scum. Under the assumption that he's town, I would say with relative confidence that at lease one mafia member is not on the Holy wagon. Which means either Bogart or Shuhan. Both seem reasonable to me as scum but I'm leaning heavily toward Bogart right now, who has been rather minimalistic and has been making himself scarce. He also refused to claim, and is the only one to do so.
If I had to pick a scum pair right now it would be Huschel and Bogart. Personally my top choice would be to shoot Either Bogart or Shuhan now, and lynch the other if they flip town. However I realize this is highly dangerous and contingent upon my assumption that Holy is town, which he very well may not be. Shooting Huschel still seems reasonable as it seems low risk, but also low risk for reward.
Honestly I could shoot at random and I'd have a 1/3 chance of getting scum which is better than 2/7 with a lynch.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Sorry, by "low risk for reward" I meant "low chance of reward." More of a waste, really.
