This isn't directed at you guys, just making a general comment on how the community as a whole reacts to the EG/EA thing.
Why do people still make a big deal about it and flip out?
It has no bearing on the show I'm actually bothered about (MLP), so I don't see why I should care if they want to make a show.
Equestria Girls and Equestria Academy are their own things.
Whether they're awful or not… isn't all that relevant to me if I can still watch MLP.
It's like hating strawberry ice cream, and flailing your arms around screaming when you see some strawberry ice cream in a shop window.
It's like dude... no one is forcing you to buy it, just leave it alone and enjoy your chocolate ice cream.
Why don't you let the ice cream vendor sell what he wants and mind your own god damn business?
And yet every time an announcement like this comes out, a lot of people start whining and thrashing around. Like it somehow makes a difference on their life.
It's just... why??? I honestly think it's quite silly.

I think the only way I could ever be mad at the "Equestria" stuff is if it ever threatened the continued existence of "Friendship Is Magic".
And with season 5 confirmed, I don't think that will be a concern any time soon. :)

Meh it's Hasbro, people gotta remember they're a toy company first and foremost. If it's popular, they're gonna keep the train rolling one way or another. Heck we wouldn't even have the current incarnation of MLP if they hadn't kept trying. The fact that it appeals outside it demographic was just a pleasent surprise and nothing more beyond that. But at the end of the day, this is still a series aimed at kids.

2)It splits the creative staff's energy and time. The first movies at least used up writers and animators assigned to the main show and its largely assumed to be a factor in season 3 being only half length. (Given that the run time was the equivalent of 4 episodes plus development time, it was certainly a factor and ate into the schedule of one of the better show writers.)
With it going full time there might be a full blown staff split… or it might get only newbie talent.
3)It IS fightng with the main show. Same title, character names and colors are being promoted across the board... it does eat into the main product in terms of advertising and merchandising, and pushes the more generic girly tropes (teenage crush crap in high school!) that everyone is already convinced the main show has. Damaging the genuine all ages quality the main show has.
All that said, I think most of the hate would vanish if the character designs had simply been better.

About the only legitimate thing I hear about the crazy ass designs they ended up with is having the crazy neon skin tones because they wouldn't want to assign race to any of the main 6. (Asian twilight, black rarity, tanned applejack, etc) and having them be all white is… iffy.[/hide]

Could you see something like that happening, where they truly milk the show
and its fans for years and years, just like what happened to The Simpsons & Spongebob?
Or do you think they'll end it soon, like after season 5 (or possibly even 6)?
The profits that certain corporations have been making off MLP and its fandom have been amazing.
As such, it makes me wonder when they'd actually consider stopping the show, as their figures will certainly drop significantly when it's gone.
I personally think that this show could run for a good while yet, as most of the episodes in a single season are slice-of-life format.
The world building, races/species, huge cast, lots of legends and lore, etc… all contributes to a huge pool they could dip into for story lines.
What do you think? When do you reckon they'll call it quits (if they do)?

Lol, who said anything about worrying? I have a feeling my post was mis-read somewhat, as i didn't expect this kind of reply.
I'm not worried, I'm just posing a general question of how long you guys think MLP will continue before it stops, whether through creator decision or otherwise.
That's it, just that question. It wasn't meant to be in the tone of "when will they axe our beloved show?" or some panicky thing like that, if that's what you're implying.
It was meant to be in the tone of "So… the show is booming right now, and the company is making sweet profit on it. How much further do you think they'll carry it? Simpsons length?"
65, and then 100 episodes is the magic number for syndication, and they're approaching that now. There's diminishing returns the more episodes you make, and the later seasons will probably be 13 episode runs. Even hugely successful shows have a hard time making it past 7 or so years of nonstop production.
As big as it is at the moment, I can imagine it going for about 7 or 8 seasons total, which is how long most successful animated series last. Long runner, plenty of eps for syndication (twice a day even) but no way in hell it goes Simpsons length. Probably around 140-160 episodes. (Transformers ran 3 years and 100 eps. The first Ninja Turtles ran 10 years and for 200 episodes, the second series for 7 seasons and 150 episodes. Garfield and Friends 7 years and 120 episodes. King of the Hill ran for 13 years and 260 episodes… somehow. )
Audience is going to grow up and grow out of it eventually., and at some point they'll want to mix up the toy line again (already seeing that with Equestria Girls.) They'll coast on momentum for a while, but eventually that'll peter out and they'll try a new version of the show down the line.
Of course, if the toys keep selling like crazy then the show is fine, but I have to imagine they'll want to refresh the main cast and toys being sold eventually.
What I don't understand, particularly after the Cadence/Chrysallis season finale, is why in heavens have they not done a proper MLP movie, and instead do movies for the Equestria Girls line.

DVD sales and getting network time and how profits work out among how the profit is distributed and because the show is doing just fine as a show currently.
Cause even though the show has season sets, they're ALSO still releasing packs of 4 or 5 themed episodes that they're basically treating like movies.
Equestria Girls gets standalone movies because till now, it wasn't a product they wanted to put into full blown production and its easier to finance a 60 minute movie than a 13-26 episode show.

! That was a very satisfying finale. Twilight with the power of four Alicorns fighting Tierek was so awesome. I'm glad the Rainbowfied versions of the Mane 6 were only temporary. Though the designs were cool, I just can't see them like that for another Season.
Now to wait for Season 5.

! Holy crap, did I enjoy this season finale. why?
! a) Twilight finally gets to put her princess role to use, something I'm sure most of the fandom has been dying to see. The battle between her and Tirek was just…..so freaking awesome oh my god
! b) Tirek. Who voiced him? The dude was threatening, powerful, and intimidating. Easily one of the best villains of the series, if simply not for the voice performance alone.
! c) The songs. That song in the beginning with the four princesses......put a big grin on my face......it was beautifully sung, bravo to Tara Strong and company. And in the end....ah, simply beautiful.
! d) good ol' Discord. He joins Tirek's crusade, gets betrayed, realizes the error of his ways....all the while being his charming, troll self.
! Then we get to see the chest introduced in the beginning open up, Twilight and co. go Super Saiyan (a form that looked both ridiculous and awesome, imo). Twilight gets a new treehouse and makes this Justice League-esque with the thrones and......realizes her true role.
! To spread the magic of friendship. Does that sound extremely cheesy? Yes. But does it tie very nicely to the theme of the show, and the beginning of Twilight's whole adventure? Yeah. What wonders await us in season 5?

Really enjoyable season finale
! I loved how they went DBZ on the battle between Twilight and Teriak. I was actually hoping all six of the mega mane ponies would then curbstomp him, but I guess the random rainbow doing it was ok too.
