I have a calculus test tomorrow, and I got this question right expect I still had the 3 at the bottom. Can anyone explain to me exactly why the 3 goes away?

Well I'll give it a go since nobody else has.
I believe that you can combine all that is inside the natural log to get
(x+(x^2 -9)^(1/2))/3After that, you can split it up into two different log functions. Like this -
ln(x/y) = ln(x) - ln(y)and you should get,
ln(x+(x^2 -9)^(1/2))- ln(3)and because ln(3) is a constant and not a variable, it can be absorbed into your C and you are left with that last bit you have there.
That ok? If this is right, then still having the 3 isn't wrong, it just isn't completely simplified.
