@maggie:
I mean that some sculptors make faces too similar, but there are inconsistencies with other parts of the sculpt. Some things are the same, some are different. ATTM I think drags Megahouse down immensely, and I just looked through a lot of the Megahouse staff and it's mostly him that's out of left field. On the other hand I like Ishiyama Yuuki (with one or two exceptions, I do like the new Mihawk), and wish that they did everything for Megahouse. Hmm, I don't really think Megahouse is at the top of their game when their GEMs hit the bargain bin, POPs aren't selling out like they used to, and the resale value of their figures plummets.
Ah okay, so well thats where I agree, ATTM is not my favourite either. Now while I said MH being on top of the game I was refering to their One Piece figure line. Same line I was refering to as Banpresto. While GEMs do hit the bargain bin, I don't think its because of the figures but simply because of the fanbase for such figures. Spiderweb almost exclusively makes Crows x Worst and Baki the Grappler figures. They never sell out, simply because the fanbase isn't that huge. The Naruto and Sasuke from the GEM series will sell. Kakashi didn't because he isn't one of the main characters. Would be the same as trying to sell Yamcha from the DBZ line. Had a great story in DB but didn't do a thing in DBZ. Relase value plummeting?! There are some sales from time to time, again it's the non mayor characters who hit the bin. Nothing other compagnies don't suffer from.
@maggie:
I'm sorry you keep saying that I'm disrespectful, I'm simply sharing my opinion. Since there's nothing else better out there, and there's no company that is allowed the license, we have to 'make do' with Megahouse and that is my major gripe. It's simply not fair. They are hoarding every Jump license. Also the same argument with Banpresto over and over with everyone (moreso with Figuarts though in terms of OP) that the final product isn't up to snuff (but the sculpt is, and that's not the sculptor's fault). I guess no place is satisfactory when you really look at it. Megahouse, recently with their Naruto Chara Lands took a tremendous nosedive in quality, I was appalled. There was that set of MBHs that had terrible QC as well, so many flubs. It's not just Megahouse that I'm complaining about here, but it's the one I'm most familiar with since I've been collecting so long.
I don't really know why you don't think this is "not fair"? This is always the case and always will be. Same goes for Marvel/DC action figures, that's just the way it is. However being on top of the game does mean compagnies make wise choices in the licenses they buy. Again I think MegaHouse makes great choices here.
@maggie:
When I got my first POP (Ace) I was so pleased and impressed. As the years went by I got more used to figures and saw that what was once new and impressive was not as good as it ought to have been. Then I wondered why I had been buying all that I was, and the only answer was that I loved the series. I realized I can love the series without owning something from it, and I just stopped. I am very pleased when people are over the moon about a figure, I like that joy. Good for them, they found something that makes them happy. If they are proud of their collection and love it every bit, that is fantastic.
You know that's really good for you! I am happy you can enjoy the series as much as I can, without the figures! But that's no reason to downtalk on MegaHouse and their figures imho.
The only problem I have with the downtalk is that some say the quality lacks, the sculpts are bad and they are going down in resale value etc. etc.
Meanwhile the better figures still sell out on pre-order. Meanwhile they make figures who loads of people like (Mihawk/Shanks etc). Meanwhile the same people saying that still order MegaHouse figures… It's the inconsistant way of discussing I dont like. You either like the series or not.
MegaHouse is going up in quality. The figures they now look like they look now in the anime. The figures they used to make looked like they looked in the anime then. This is something I like about the brand. They grow with the series and do this in a good and unique way.
@maggie:
I do feel that people are becoming more jaded though, with QC, promos, and final products, similar sculpts, bad sculpts. Being 'forced' to buy something to complete a set. It's just not right that some places hoard a license as well. What we get is what we get, and we either need to deal with it or just not buy it I suppose. For my part I'm not buyin.'
Everything is getting more expensive, and nothing seems to be getting better quality really. For so much money, the new figures coming out need to be twice as good as my old ones, and many aren't. Though I'm admittedly (and obviously) not collecting as much anymore so I'm not seeing as much firsthand as I used to. I mean, for everyone, where is your cutoff? How much do you pay for a figure, and what do you pay for one that's 'good enough' but you're not crazy about? Does it aggravate you to see it sitting on your shelf?
Well again I don't know what you like and don't like. I would love it that you would be more specific about the whole thing and MegaHouse's One piece releases. I would love to see some figure names and then we can also talk about the reason some hit the bargin bin.
The releases of the POP line in 2013, and the ones you like/hate. I have to say Im disgusted by the SA Luffy and not a fan of the SA Franky but so far the other figures theyve released are really decend figures and look like they should with some minor aded details.
The SA series
- Chopper, looking like he should, reason it will not sell like crazy: It's a small unimpresive figure. Most choppers don't sell like crazy anway.
- Luffy, looking like crap, reason it will sell is indeed getting the collection complete.
- Copper with crazy eyes, looking like he should, reason it will not sell like crazy: It's Chopper.
- Brook, looking like he should, box is insane big. True half good/half bad. The joints are not fantastic but shouldn't bother you all that much.
- Usopp, looking like he should, great extra stuff, allround fantastic figure.
- Fat Chopper, reason it will not sell like crazy: It's Chopper.
- Sanji, looking like he should, some extra stuff, allround good figure. Cheaper than before now, as expected.
- Bikini Nami with Book, great! A fantastic piece for collectors and skipable for the starting collectors.
- Perona, looking like she should, box is insane big. True half good/half bad.
- Shirahoshi, sold like crazy is expected to be worth more than before.
- Law, sold like crazy is expected to be well worth the money. Personally not the biggest fan, cool to have either way. The lack of heart doesn't bother me to much. So imho good enough!
- Nami, Robin, Zoro, looking fantastic, will be worth the money, sold like crazy.
- Franky, looking mweh, must get because of the line.
Hit: 10
Almost there: 2
Miss: 2
End result SA POP: 10/14 are good to great figures to have and worth the money. Perhaps the glory days of the old days are not there, granted those where insane anyway.
The EX/DX/Maximum POP series (2013)
- Mihawk, great figure, will sell like crazy etc.
- Gol D, great figure, will sell good, nice to finally have him.
- Benn Beckman, okay figure, will not sell like crazy, will have a small resale value with Shanks. Almost there.
- Shanks, great figure, will sell like crazy etc.
- Shiliew, okay figure, will not sell like crazy, will have a small reslae value with new Marshall. Almost there.
- Killer, really nice figure, will not sell like crazy, will have a small resale value with Kid. Almost there.
- Kid, excellent figure, insane box, making shipping far to much. Miss.
- Whitebeard 1.5, excellent figure, will sell with Gol. Nice!
Hit: 4
Almost there: 3
Miss: 1
End result, barely there. I have to say you guys have a great point for the box. Then again, Kid couldn't really have a much smaller box with that hand of him.
However still more good to excellent figures than bad ones.
@TräshCät:
I have to disagree. And I really dunno why you find someone elses habts of collecting 'disrespectful'.
Read again my dear TC, It's not the habit, it's saying a sculpt should look a 100% like the art it's based of I find disrespectful. If you respect a sculpters work you will know it cannot be a 100% the same, however if one can do that even more props to him.
@TräshCät:
My first non-Megahouse and non-One Piece figure opened my eyes. Bow down to art works ver. Aegis by Alter.
Yes, that's a great piece, also will cost you much more than your regular Megahouse One Piece character… Wouldn't compare it to what MH does. Different class.
Again Im not saying MegaHouse is making the BEST OF THE BEST, Im saying there are on top of the game for the One Piece line figures and only the One Piece line.
@TräshCät:
That's the thing with Megahouse, they could do better … they just don't want to because they are satisfied with the quality and sculpts they give. They bring money after all. So yeah, wonder why I sold nearly all of my POPs? Because I didn't know any better as I started collecting. I'd never buy Neo Zoro again coz I think he looks off .. but couldn't help it in the past coz he was the only Zoro available. Now when I buy POPs, I only buy those I really like. Other than that Megahouse doesn't interest me much. Might sound a bit bitter. Maybe I am, seeing how they have one of the worst customer services ever. Wait they don't have one at all, I think.
Nahh, since the first day I came on AP forums I was collecting loads of other stuff to. The older figures look worse because the whole game has changed for figures. Looking back at what you could get in 2008 and now it's a whole world of difference. This mainly has something to do with MegaHouse to. So instead of being bitter they also caused you to look at better quality. They bring a product that is meant for the bigger market so starting collectors can easily pick it up. Sure every pre-painted E2024 figure looks better than your POP and also will cost you 3x that much.
@TräshCät:
Regarding Banpresto … what are you talking about? Sure their figures aren't perfect but that's expected for their price. However, they don't have shitty quality. That shichibukai Croc is amazing. No shitty quality. Mine does look like the prototype so if yours doesn't I wonder what it was that you bought. If Banpresto had the same budget Megahouse does ... and if they would start a battle with producing high quality One Piece figures ... Banpresto would win.
So the price excuse works for Banpresto but doesn't go up for MegaHouse in your opinion? Interesting.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Oh yeah, my non- OP haul for this month so far XD:
Arshes Nei, white black version.
I love this figure, the curves and sculpt are insanely well done. Truly one of my favourites.
I prefer the original one but this one was bought for €50 including shipping :D.
!
Cheers, :D

Hmmm this:
I still love the sculpt but the colours are not my favourite. The black just makes the details hard to see.
Love it!
