You know, we make fun of Kubo's ink spill powers a lot, but I think Shunsui's bankai ink spill actually looks pretty alright.
It's like one of those oriental ink paintings depicting an Asian pine tree full of blackness. One of the handful of times I actually decided to linger on a Bleach page to look at details.

The problem is that kubo doesn't bother to establish power levels of characters. So readers have to guess these things. It doesn't help that he keeps giving characters super hax bullshit powers.
Personally, I think it's better that it's more ambiguous, like Oda and the Seven Warlords.
It's when you have a strict order that makes it all the more egregious when things go haywire.. Kubo's Espada got shuffled around and whatnot, making the numbers eventually pointless:
Ulquiorra's #4, but he had a second form that made him like number #1
Yammy was #10, yet shot up to #0.
Hitsugaya struggles under a limiter against Luppi, who got promoted to #6, yet without a limiter he's able to go toe to toe with Harribel, #3? Either the limiter was really restrictive or Hitsugaya is that strong. Certainly not the latter.I'm not sure if Kubo ranked them based on reiatsu or something, but in the end, I think hard numbers kinda screwed him over in the end.
-
If I remember well, the limiter reduced their power by like 80%.
And there was some training between Luppi encounter and war, I think.
Not that I disagree with the original thought.

Fair enough I suppose.
I've always viewed Hitsugaya as the weakest captain. Not out of virtrol mind you, just that he's the youngest, we've seen him get defeated quite a few times, and Aizen one-shotted his Bankai. It kinda puts it into perspective, like I know it was Aizen, and he pwns everyone, but a Bankai isn't something that should get wrecked so easily.
But to be fair, Soi Fon and Komamura have had bad days with their own Bankais so…...who knows, really.
-
At least Soi Fon and Komamura got wins against the skeleton king and bug man Tousen. Poor Hitsugaya didn't even get a real win against Halle Berry

Hiyori and Lisa kinda had to jump in, and even then, Aizen was like "lol no more fighting, me time, slash"
-
Hitsugaya had to job to Halle Berry so that it would be more epic when Halle Berry had to job for Aizen. Cause that's whats cool these days.
-
Patiently waits for the return of the RG, Tessai, Isshin, Ryuken and the rest of the Vizards
Also why aren't the Vizards donning their masks?
Watch Shinji get jobbed once again…. -
:ninja: Won't it be hilarious if Shinji and the others including Miracle Muscle actually are still within the area of Shunsui's bankai? I'd appreciate that kind of twist.
-
So, any ideas what Miracles can do? Something like Mask only more… cartoonish? Did you catch that cape of his expanding?
Then again, they should be able to manipulate spirit particles at least that much. Cheese created a new rifle just like that.

I hope its not a dumb fate change power based on luck.

I saw his cape bloating, but that's just it. Couldn't care less whether it had anything to do with his letter power or not. You know.. ass-pulling can be said doing miracle in-universe, so maybe it's something in that vein?
Kidding aside, maybe his power is simply using all miracles told in legends / mythologies / folktales (imagine that in Bleachverse). The only other character with similar power that I know of, is Kochiya Sanae from Touhou series.

You mean like that one full bringer?

More likely Abraham from Kekkai Sensen, but opposite.

Komamura didn't even defeat Tousen though. It was a joint effort. His only win was against one of Barragan's servants.
Sui-Feng and Barragan too. Hachi actually did most of the job in defeating the skeleton king.
And let's not forget that Komamura is weaker than a chair.

If we go by official data from an old databook, then:
Yamamoto = Aizen > Unohana > Shunsui > Byakuya > Hitsugaya > Ukitake > Gin > Komamura > Tousen = Sui-Feng > Mayuri > Kenpachi
This was back during the Soul Society arc, and made sense at the time as Ichigo and Ishida were actually able to defeat the Kenpachi and Mayuri respectively. There's also the fact that Kenpachi and Mayuri rely on haxcap and lolscience as well.

He can turn water into wine.
Thus, he will turn the water in Shinji and Co.'s bodies into alcohol and kill them with intoxication.

I sure hope that wasn't a spoiler.

Haha, seems legit.
And when they kill him, he returns back alive in 3 days.

Ukitake is sickly, yet that puts Byakuya and Hitsugaya above him? He's still above Gin and Tousen!
-
Komamura is sure as hell so weak he's the worst captin and he looks stupid with no brain , gin is strong but the way he died made him look like nothing

Calm down Jotaro we all know that so with ease.

That old databook was clearly wrong from the start as in that same arc Kenpachi was soloing both Tousan and Komamura at the same time and winning.

Well power levels quickly became bullshit when ichigo was able to take down Byakuya, with an incomplete bankai no less. Kenny I can understand because he had no harmony with his zan, but a professionally trained centuries old shinigami? No fucking way.

That is how much they scored by measuring Physical Strenght, Offense, Defense, Kido/Reiatsu, Intelligence and Mobility, all of they ranging from 0 to 100. Considering Kenpachi only knows how to swing a sword…

Well, Ichigo didn't really take down Byakuya. His Bankai overpowered Byakuya's and Byakuya acknowledged it, declared Ichigo as a winner and then just Shunpo'd away whereas Ichigo couldn't even move any more. The fight could have went on and Ichigo wouldn't have been able to do shit.

Really? I need to reread that fight, it's been years. But basically ichigo wins his fights because of main character bullshit.

It came down to Ichigo's sword melting Byakuya's and then Byakuya being reminded of Kaien and saying stuff and then leaving.
Anyway, here's the chapter.
-
Ichigo vs. Byakuya is honestly one of my favorite fights of the series. Probably my favorite Ichigo fight too.

Yeah I'm rereading the whole fight now. God it's fucking amazing. Looking back, what the hell happened to bleach?

After linking it to you, I just kept reading further through those Aizenanigans. The sheer amount of things that happened in only 10 following chapters is amazing (especially compared to nowadays).

Hmm, idea for an article - 10 overlooked/shafted/underrated Bleach characters?

The usual sharp decline in quality that few series aren't able to overcome.

Got one right off the bat. Iba. The guy Ikaku fought during the soul society arc. Kubo started to build him, then he just vanished.

Yeah he had a memorable design. Some cool moments, especially scolding Ikkaku during Fake Karakura. But we don't know his Shikai…..
Here's another - Tessai. Has a wicked 'stache/glasses combo, is a Kido beast, yet he's done pretty much nothing in present day. Urahara should bring him along for more things. Hell Hachi still calls him "captain" , shows how great he is.

I couldn't remember who you were talking about at first, and when I looked up Ikkaku on the wiki the way the wiki is organized didn't mention his fight with Iba in the normal text (I had to scroll through the Soul Society arc section). I also skipped over the name Iba when reading your post. Basically, I thought you were making a joke about Ichigo and his lack of personality.
-

Kubo went through a divorce for starters. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of others things of that caliber went down that sapped his will to keep that level of effort going.

Ichigo HAD personality. Then kubo got rich and lazy and simply stopped caring
-

He did? Around when exactly did that happen?
-
Nobody knows who his wife was if I'm not mistaken.

Ooohhh, don't get me started. He's like a champion of shunned characters.
It baffles me that in all these fights with high level enemies in these last two arc there was no place for Tessai to intervene. Oh, sure, we saw a little of what he could do in TBTP but that's not nearly enough for someone of his goddamn caliber.
Here we have such noobs as Hitsugaya and Soifon taking up panel space with their shitty abilities while a motherfuckin' Dumbledore of Bleach is wiping dust in Urahara's shop.
I guess it's a problem when you make a shitload of strong good guys and get bored with bad guys in the middle of their arc.
Btw, had no idea he had a divorce. That's sucks. Or not if she was a pain in the ass.
-

Speaking of Urahara Shop, did we get an explanation about the kids who works there? As in, what are they? Where did they come from? What are their history?
-

Eh really? When? Because I remember the news he got married at some point in the Fullbring arc or something (either way, long after the SS arc). He was married twice or this was a recent divorce for that marriage?
a motherfuckin' Dumbledore of Bleach
Such a great way to describe him. I just want to totally wreck some character that boasts he's super powerful, then Tessai busts out some insane Kido on him/her without breaking a sweat.

No, but I swear Ururu could be a Nemu prototype or something, given Urahara's scientific background. She punched the crap out of one of Grimmjow's fraccion. As for Jinta….he seems like a normal human with a bat. I dunno.
-
Remember Komamura and Iba? I don't think Kubo does.

Komamura had turned into a helpless fox and Iba was beside him at his last moments. Not sure if Komamura's dead or not, but both Iba and him are pretty much out of the picture (quite literally).

Iba has been useless in this arc. Not as bad as Hisagi though.
-
new chapter is out.
Bankai finally revealed.Quincy is gonna get fked up bad, but then its only just begun so….maybe Quincy has a few more tricks left, that';ll make this interesting.....either way he's gonna get owned badly...
-
siggggggggggggggggggggggggggggh. i mean his bankai is cool, just wish it was explained now rather then later.
-
THIS BANKAIIIIIIII is amazing though…......
-
Can I Askin what are you doing it?
-
What the bloody hell is going on
And why does Sniper Quincies weird cocoon clothing now appearantly constitute his actual flesh
Also, where is his mouth
-
The best I can conjecture is that his Bankai allows him to turn a very large area (maybe all of SS) into his own personal tragedy, complete with prologues and several acts.
