Not really, only the extremelly arrogant secondary villains
! Steely Dan, Rubber Soul or ones that sort of need to explain it
! the D´Arbys, Ringo Roadagain [/spoilers].
! I´m pretty sure that that doesn´t happen in around 80% of the Jojo fights.
! –- Update From New Post Merge ---
! The characters explaining it might actually be reasonable in some situations.
I´ve already said that I think Shunsui needs to explain his because of it´s powers, and I also agree that Lille seem to be a "gentleman" about Shunsui sharing some info and giving his own.
! My problem is how frequent it is, and how it backfires a lot of the times.
It´s like no matter what character we are talking about, the rash one, the calm one, the reasonable one, the tricky one, the smarty one, the cocky one, every single one of these different personalities have one thing in common: The unexplanable need to always explain their fucking power out loud in deadly situations.
! This gets even worse if you consider that one chapter ago the character was moaning about how it didn´t want to use his power because insert reason.
! Also, maybe in Lille´s case, we can´t figure out how to beat him just from that, but in other cases we did: Rose, Shinji (HE ACTUALLY TOLD HIM HOW TO DO IT), Kira (despite the opponent not actually defetaing him and so on and on).
In more simple abilities, like Kira´s for example, saying his power instead of trying to get opponent off guard is just pure suicide.
! Fair and valid points. I don't deny some of the more fail worthy moments. Lol. Thanks for the refresher though. Rose…. damn.
Throughout this month, we will be testing new features (like search) so you may experience some hiccups from time to time. We'll try to not be too disruptive...
Bleach Discussion 0: Hello Darkness my old friend

Chad gets no love, it's always Ichigo/insert other male character yaoi or Orihime/Ulquiorra on teh fanfiction.net.
Actions speak louder than words. Sure Chad wasn't flashy or oozing with personality, but he was part Mexican (in the sea of Japanese-named characters), fights by punching things (90% of the cast uses swordplay), and lest we forget, he beat a Hollow with a telephone pole even though he couldn't see it. And the backstory with his grandfather…...
Chad is badass af.
You forgot how he had the greatest introduction. Before even having powers, the dude saved his friends by tanking the fall of a bunch of steel supports falling from a huge height in a construction zone. It didn't break any of his bones and the dude just walked it off. That scene oozed of "this guy is going places", then the only place he can find is the floor :(.
Seriously, between him and Tatsuki, there was a lot of missing potential with the human friends doing something. There was even a chance of them setting Ichigo straight but Rukia would always take that role instead. I guess that's why it's called Bleach, wipes out all the stains of potential and leaves nothing but empty characters.
-
Uh, no. That's a big exaggeration. Shinigami as a whole were never portrayed as villains because it was made clear very early on that they fought against and protected people from Hollows.
I guess I worded it wrongly. Maybe antagonists fit better? Either way, Shinigami may be force of good (to the extreme) but they were also portrayed negatively through some events (Ishida's view of them, for example). It was necessary to justify Ichigo's rescue plan, which involved beating the crap of any other shinigamis in his way.
So there are a couple of clearly sinister Shinigami, like Mayuri, but most are portrayed as merely loyal to a system that has led them astray.
I think it's just him rofl. If anything, Gotei 13 did seem like they're not doing their job properly. If they did, arrancars wouldn't have come to existence. Not sure if there's even a handwave for this, but they didn't even bother doing "soul burial" to the arrancars they killed during HM arc and beyond. The subplot of "purifying hollow from their sins during their active time as hollow, but not the sins they made as human" was forgotten completely.

I remember a couple other low ranking jerkasses that I assume were from Squad 11, but they might have just been anime filler.
Isn't the soul purifying ritual only prior to turning into a Hollow? I vaguely remember something about how the act of being killed by a zanpaktou purifies you of your sins.

IIRC this is how a zan works:
a) Konso a dead soul before the chain of fate erodes, they go to Soul Society as is, standard stuff.
b) Fail to konso a deal soul in time, they become a Hollow. But if a Hollow is killed with a zanpakutou, then yeah, it cleanses their soul and the "sins" they've done as a Hollow, allowing them to be reborn. -

Konso seemed like a hassle process to do so I guess Shinigamis would prefer fight the dead soul as horde of Hollows and sweep them in one go instead of just one by one, especially when it cleanses their souls all the same. But even then, Ichigo still had to clean up the mess because they only sent mooks one after another to replace Rukia. Despite how important Karakura Town was stressed to be in later arc (Fake Karakura). -

Of the thirteen divisions of the Gotei 13, perhaps only five have a defined purpose. 2nd has the Onmitsukido (stealth force), 4th has the healers, 9th protects the seireitei, 11th has the fighters (though that could be exempt since it's nothing specific), and finally 12th is research and development. The first division oversees everything, so that is at least seven divisions that do nothing but dick around. Of those seven, one of them could have the duty of soul burial specifically.

For me personally it's Neliel. Here is a supremely interesting character, a hollow who doesn't want to fight and longs for something precious to protect. Yet like Chad, she got Kubo'd. No explanation for why she turned into a child, and none for why she turned back into a child. Then she just disappeared for the longest time, reappeared and disappeared again. The fuck kubo?

Ha! No worries, you pay more attention than Kubo does.

Oh god Karakura would be demolished if Ichigo and pals moved or something. Kuromodani (sp? the afro dude) sucked at his job and NotHanataro and Tsuntsun were not any better. It's so important, so you would think Seireitei would order a third seat or higher to watch it constantly, not unseated members.

Hell we can break it down further.
-soul burial
-maintaining and regulation of Rukongai
-communications (specialize in hell butterfly transport and kido messages)
-regulation of spirtual anomalies (Arrancar, hybrids, reishi-enriched towns like Karakura, other things)
-support and sponsor of the AcademyThrow in something about economics (why the dead have money, I don't know) and you're set.

Don't get me started on Neliel. It was her right to defeat/kill Nnoitra and I wish she became a permanent member of Team Ichigo. As much as the child form can be entertaning here and there, the inconsistency is annoying. She had great dynamic with her fraccion. She was awesome.

The stealth squad handles messaging. So we have that covered. I mean, I can sorta understand Kubo not going into great detail at first, but further down the line? Nope. That's just kubo being lazy.
You don't have to sell me on Nel. I am already there. I know shipping is pointless and stupid, but I actively shipped Nel and Ichigo. They had much more chemistry than him and orihime. Since there's no good reason for Nel's reverting, I'll make one up: Aizen had ordered Saeyel to find a way to suppress shinigami powers, especially captain level. Saeyel tested it out on weaker arrancar and it worked, he just needed a captain level subject to make sure it would work. He saw an opportunity in Noitra and help him out. So they orchestrate an ambush on Nel, and Noirtra defeats her. The suppressor has the unexpected affect of turning Nel into a child, and she remains so long after the effects wear off. The reason for this is because she developed PTSD. A mental block was there, keeping her a child, keeping her "safe". It's not until she meets Ichigo and later Noitra again, that the mental block is permanently removed.
-
Since there's no good reason for Nel's reverting, I'll make one up:.
Wasn't it some unstability problems causing by her mask cracking? Or something like that.
-
What I got is that her power was leaking from the crack, but what truly made her become a child was her own suppresed desire to avoid a life of fights and violence. At least that was how Pesche read everything and I think his points were supposed to be seen as correct.
-
Wasn't it some unstability problems causing by her mask cracking? Or something like that.
If that were true, then why aren't more arranger afflicted with a similar condition?
-
Probably not the mask, because the crab-like arrancar Hisagi fought at FKT actually broke his own hollow mask little by little as form of power up.
I think she simply had brain concussion because she also had memory loss as well. The scar on her head and her cracked mask was simply to inform us that something or someone whacked her really hard there.
-
Well no. That was actually part of his ability. Like Jackie's dirty boots. And he was ripping it off himself, not receiving injuries.
-

Which is why I concluded that Nel shrinking into child had nothing to do with her cracked hollow mask. I thought it had something to do with Szayel and his experiments, but I recall he himself said he didn't understand what was happening to Nel, while Nnoitora only saw it as a chance to remove her from upper position. Unfortunately for him, Halibel took the sweet spot instead. I wonder why his anger wasn't redirected to her?
Urahara's hax tool that's capable of making her switch form at will was the icing on the cake. Bleach flavor at that.

But there is literally no reason she turned back into a child. That's what I'm getting at. It was just so Kenny could come in and kick Nnoitra's ass. But that is just bad story telling. Nel should have been the one to defeat Nnoitra, perfect closure for her.
-
New chapter is out.
! There was a time when I got excited for a Bankai reveal, or just liked to wonder about a persons Bankai. Unfortunately for Shunsui, it's gotten far into the series where I lost the will to care. With how things have played out, I feel that his Bankai will just be an asspull that only makes him capable of beating the opponent, and it will be useless from now on.
! On the other hand, there is potential with the Thor guy and the other Shinigami. I was very worried when it seemed like Renji was going to solo him, since he's become like most of the other cast. Thankfully the others will be there so there might be some potential. Unfortunately, I see them losing and Hitsugaya coming in to save the day. Then there is the wild card Aizen, and with his mighty chair he might be able to come and save the day. So many possibilities. -
I lost track and I have no interest of catching or understanding what's going on.
It's even worse as Naruto where are forced myself to read it till the end…

Since when were you under the impression that one could understand this series? Kubo doesn't make a logical story, instead fans fill in the gaps through various means.
Seriously though, Nazi Quincies are trying to kill Shinigami for some reason. That's all.

-
Its the most powerful bankai type of all… the INK BLOB bankai! Only its squiggly this time!
Also I guess Sniper quincy can teleport now?
-

How could you forget Mask De Masculine? The rest I can understand but Mask had a memorable design and was hilarious. Unless you quit before that fight, then I can understand. Rest were mostly forgettable.
Also, just watched an honest trailer and would love them to do something on this last Bleach arc, only to see the names they would come up with for all the various characters.
-
Who else except Urahara even stands a chance against miracle thor guy? This is gonna get stupid really quick.
-
Quincy Thor vs Renji's group which i hope will get owned badly, but then they have Urahara on there so we cna probably expect some Mayuri level trolling going on there. Shinji i really dislike now, i just want him to get 1 shotted, andLOL at Renji thinking he could take Quincy Thor on by himself….
Plus points. Shunsui actually used a NEW Kido spell, like OMG, he actually remembered there was such a thing called Kido and of course his bankai should be really interesting. It must be really dangerous if he wanted people far away as possible....
-
there are houses there? who would want to live there?
-
Who else except Urahara even stands a chance against miracle thor guy? This is gonna get stupid really quick.
its Urahara, the guy is 1 of the few bright points, even if it involves trolling and some lolscience, it should at least be entertaining….
A great pity because i suuuuper wanted to see Quincy Thor vs Kenpachi. The two seemed tailor made to fight one another. Oh well, one can hope for a miracle.
--- Update From New Post Merge ---

Quincy obviously, like poor mustache guy that got blasted through the eye by Bazz-B.
-
I feel there are still a load of Bankais we yet need to see.
-
The Theatre Suicide? How doesn't he get tired of these pretentious random titles. At least this one makes a little sense, since Shunsui's Bankai translates into "Lovers' Suicide Beneath the Black Pine" or something. Apparently it's a reference to this play. There was also a woman's hand holding Shunsui's in one of the panels in 645. A woman is also holding him in the last panel in this chapter. Speaking of Shunsui, who could have guessed that the chapter will end with him activating Bankai. :ninja:
But at least we heard the name and had some hints, so it could be worse.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Seems like Kyoraku isn't quite ready to drop the puns.
!
Even after activating Bankai, he should proceed to fight caerphilly.

Mask was actually pretty awesome. Just in the wrong manga.
Also, did you watch the Bleach Honest Trailer? If not, you definitely should. It's hilarious as fuck. -
Shunsui continues his fight, and surprise surprise, X-Axis really does still have his head.
Seems I was kinda right about his bankai…..it really might seem it catches everyone, friend or foe, as he apologies in the off chance Nanao gets involved (which I don't understand, I thought she told Shinji she would back Kyoraku up)
Who else except Urahara even stands a chance against miracle thor guy? This is gonna get stupid really quick.
Seriously, just throw Urahara at him. It's not like this group is adverse to letting their high tier fighters stay behind to fight mooks.
-
Mask was actually pretty awesome. Just in the wrong manga.
True. In another manga he'd have been great. As it is in Bleach his appearance is when I stopped taking the Quincy seriously. Miracle Thor is much the same.
-
It would have to be Pepe for me.
-
@Daz:
Its the most powerful bankai type of all… the INK BLOB bankai! Only its squiggly this time!
Also I guess Sniper quincy can teleport now?
Truly the power of bankai is measured by how much ink kubo spends on it.
Teleporting is nothing since everyone has flash jump or whatever it was called, and free attacks from behind.
But, seriously what is up with the commander general always having a bankai that teamkills?
-
Mask was actually pretty awesome. Just in the wrong manga.
Also, did you watch the Bleach Honest Trailer? If not, you definitely should. It's hilarious as fuck.I wonder what he would be like in One Piece or Toriko. Not sure if he would fit in JoJo, because his design doesn't fit the universe, but the insanity part does.
I watched the video, but not exactly my cup of tea. It might have been I was expecting something like the regular honest trailers and I didn't find it funny compared to that. The One Piece one was terrible, since of the possibilities the rant was that the arcs have a similar style and formula, and that was the main point. I don't even remember the Bleach one. I'll try again and without trying to compare it to the other honest trailer series.
-
Who else except Urahara even stands a chance against miracle thor guy? This is gonna get stupid really quick.
No way are all of him going to face the Thor guy, it would be to lopsided or he is going to receive a MAJOR boost. Two captains and a powered up vice captain to beat him, also Bleach doesn't have a long history of team ups to defeat one guy. I am expecting the powered up Renji to be able to pull the win out, even though it wouldn't make sense.

I expect Shinji to go back and help Shunsushi, he bankai and Shunsushi is just nasty. However I guess it could get very dangerous if they team up. Playing random children's games and then throw on top inverting them.
@LightningAce:its Urahara, the guy is 1 of the few bright points, even if it involves trolling and some lolscience, it should at least be entertaining….

At least in Urahara's defense, his trolling has a limit. Also that would of been a very good fight however we are left with a lot of What If moments.
-
Actually, with Urahara we have a good chance of seeing more Kido being used, and i'm guessing he has a Kido type zanpakutou and with Aizen he used a few number of them…..
-
I don't know if this fight is as boring as it looks or it coming after Mayuri's makes it look worse than it is, but… man, what a tedious piece of shit.
Hopefully my man Shinji is FINALLY going to do something and fight against this Gerard (Urahara, fuck off, please. You are one of the big dogs, go fight the boss or whatever). And there is also Grimmjow x Nakk (or better yet, Grimmjow + Neliel x Nakk) happening somewhere else, also something I want to see.
I hope those don't disappoint me as much as Shunsui (who I always loved to see in action) x Lille (who was the only elite I was finding interesting prior to this fight)@The:

Shinji is as as useful as a solar powered torch. He got 1 shotted by that psycho bitch Bambietta , he was utterly useless against Bazz-B, and against Gerard aka Quincy Thor, he's gonna get owned badly.

Just read a better translation of the other chapter where Shunsui mentioned something about Arrancar that had everyone confused:
https://mangahelpers.com/t/cnet128/releases/41862It appears as if he was saying he never played that particular game when he fought Stark way back then…..
-
Lots of power retcons, so Shunsui was always stronger than Unohana and Kenpachi?

He'd be perfect in One Piece. The kooky design and personality fit well.
To each their own on the honest trailer thing.
-
So Shunsui finally unleashes his bankai. Seems pretty terrifying and probably affects anybody who gets caught up in it even if they are friendly.
-

I would say the Gotei tier was always Yamamoto -> Aizen -> Unohana-> Ukitake=Shunsui -> Gin -> Byakuya, Kenpachi, Komamura, Mayuri, Soi Fon in some order -> Hitsugaya
Of course, when you throw in Urahara, Yoruichi, Isshin, the Vizards….it gets too complicated.

As if Kubo cared. Remember when Shunsui struggled and lost an eye against the old man Quincy (Robert) that didn't even had his power revealed?
-
Awesome chapter. I'm usually not too fond of the bankai cliffhangers, but I've been waiting for Shunsui's for so long now that I couldn't help but get a little giddy over it!

Shunsui is one of the only reasons I like bleach. Last two pages got me all giddy

The problem is that kubo doesn't bother to establish power levels of characters. So readers have to guess these things. It doesn't help that he keeps giving characters super hax bullshit powers.
-

Who knows?
Unohana was a demon with the sword. Up u til this arc Kenpachi's has not fought to his full potential and only just learnt the name if his sword. It seems Shunsui is destined to fight guys with guns…..
Super excited. This bankai is gonna be deadily...
-
Shunsui resembles bach a lot.
I kinda thought shunsui was bach (defected) a few years back when bach was introduced. Especially, I think, they were both introduced with lines about "peace"?
-
Truly the power of bankai is measured by how much ink kubo spends on it.
All of ink-spill powers would kneel under the power of Bald Monk of Zero Division though. He could control all the blackness in Bleachverse :ninja:

I liked this chapter.
