Could KF fansubs get shut down?

Okay let me explain first. Im making a website to inform people of the TRUE One Piece and not the crap that 4kids shovels into kids' mouths. I want to have a link to some fansubs and KF for sure, but … I dunno, could 4kids shut them down with legal stuff? Im pretty sure 4kids knows about KF fansubs because people talk about fansubs on the 4kids board a lot, but... well I guess, do you think it's a good idea to link to KF fansubs. They're linked to on here, but what if 4kids found it?...

just curious about the legalties... <_<
EDIT: same question for hell fansubs and things like that too.

I'm not convinced that K-F is legal. From what I understand, it still is illegal. If I'm wrong, someone correct me with some facts. But I don't care anyway, it's not like anyone is losing money from me downloading fansubs. It's the only source of uncut, English-subtitled One Piece out there.

Most people there dont have a clue about onepiece, even those who watch the real thing.

Meh, KF's about as legal as downloading mp3s. However, Al Khan has released statements that he doesn't need "our kind" of revenue anyway, so he shouldn't care. >.>
At this point, the original's so bizarrely different from the dub that I suspect he would have trouble proving the copyright in court, so there's no real risk of a lawsuit. Just ignore it and keep downloading. :p

Back to the original question, considering that Arlong Park links to K-F, I don't see why that should be a problem. But I guess the best thing to do is email K-F admin and tell them what you plan on doing, and ask their permission.

I agree very much. The american law won't be able to catch K-F since the source come from Japan and not the dub crap versions.

And how exactly does that make it legal? All fansubs are, by right, illegal, because they reproduce a published work they don't own rights to and distribute them.

But since when being illegal ever stopped the internet from downloading stuff?:laugh:

I choose to think K-F is doing a service to the animators and Oda himself. They're exposing OP to the rest of the world. Since manga these days are mostly chinese and japanese and the anime are destroyed by some dumb beep. Its another form of advertising ^_^

But you are forgetting Toei can sue KF for that. But probably Toei doesn't care since 4Kids is doing such a bad job dubbing their anime so they probably will have to depend on K-F to spread One Piece to America (which was the original intentions of fansubs and that was why japanese companies ignored them when there were no companies in America to license them)

Anyway fansubbing is as illegal as getting MP3s (as rb has said) so I think there is a possibility that KF may get shut down (let's hope for the best) but they can always come back and do as another group with another name ;) (we've seen a lot of this)

I don't think K-F should be promoted too much. If Toei does find out about them, they will probably force them to shut down because Toei have always been anal when it comes to overseas distribution. If anything, it's better to inform people of K-F's version through certain forums and word-of-mouth instead of letting people know what it is they do on a website.

Well, that's my opinion anyway.

Well the japanese don't care about fansubbing, so even if it's illegal, they don't press charges anyway. So why not exactly legal, it's "tolerated" anyway. It's the american companies that license anime that provide the problem. If 4KIDS ever decided that KF is a problem, it's bye bye and we'll be stuck with the skypiea HKs forever… so I'd say just download them and keep quiet about it.
