It's now been officially 5 years since the premiere of the Funimation dub!

I remember watching Toonami on that faithful Saturday night and wanting to put the 4kids dub behind me. Once I heard Funimation's dub of "Toward The Light", Eric Vale's uncongested Sanji, and dialogue that didn't insult my intelligence, I knew that One Piece was saved and that the nightmare was over. We were finally going to get an English adaptation of Eiichiro Oda's great masterpiece and storytelling, and not have it hindered by the likes of 4kids' censorship and unnecessary changes. Ah, the good old days…

While we've been through the gutter and back for the past five years, and had our ups and downs, I'm glad that our English dub is still continuing and that there is still a great and growing community of fans out there that enjoy the show as much as I do.

So without further ado, comment here on your own Funimation dubbed One Piece experiences and celebrate this landmark achievement. Here's to another great 5 years and beyond!

I use to like Sanjis old vouce, but im no longer influenced by the devil. Sadly Funimation can never fix the negative impact 4kids gave One Piece in the US. This is why people think One Piece sucks more than DBZ Kai and Naruto is " the greatest anime ever', T_T. Anime is NOT all about nonstop, plotless fighting ( cough naruto)

Man, I still remember that night. When we all were enjoying the first airing of the Funimation dub of One Piece. From the english dub verison from Luffy's breaking the fourth wall about never going back there again a lot of us thought it was joke toward the 4kids dub of the show. And seeing ending 9 dub for the first time ever. Another I still remember was the next episode preview had us all excited for the next episode and the wait for it.

Now five years later, we're just about to be finished with the Davy Back Fights in the dub and we got a redub of the 4kids seasons. I have to say that isn't bad for getting this many episodes done in that time period. I'm still happy that Funimation is doing awesome job on this show, and I hope this continues for another five years.

5 years ago to this day, I could not tell you the name of a single One Piece character. Not even Luffy.
so no, I don't remember this event 5 years ago.
also now I wonder when the dub will catch up with the sub?

The dub episodes probably will never be near the simulcast episodes. We shouldn't be worried about that. We all should be celebrating, the 5th brithday of the Funimation dub with happiness and joy. I mean we all been on a crazy ride for the last 5 years with this thing. I still remember the day I got my copy Season 1, Part 1. Enjoying watching the uncut verison of the early episodes of the series with the dub. I still remembering laughing during the Luffy and Buggy fight episodes.

^ Not to mention we have Enies Lobby and Strong World coming out next year.

Yes, of course we got Enies Lobby coming up pretty quickly and Strong World as well. We got a lot of things coming in the next year or so with the remaining volumes of Season 4, and the entire Season 5 and Strong World. We got ton of more fun on the way with the dub. It kinda wried now that the voices have changed and developed a lot since the first episode of the dub.

It's a little weird, thinking that it's only been five years since FUNimation started dubbing One Piece. I started watching it and reading it in 2003 and I definitely remember 4Kids getting the rights to it. Thing is, I knew after a few episodes that the 4Kids dub wasn't any good and I mostly put it in the back of my mind. The FUNimation dub changed all that. I couldn't tell you if I saw that first episode on Toonami or not, but like a lot of you, as soon as I saw FUNi's dub I thought, "Wow, this is what dubbed One Piece should be like!"

So, yeah, I certainly remember that feeling of amazement and excitement at seeing it. It's become a wonderful dub. Colleen Clinkenbeard, Chris Sabat, Eric Vale, and everyone who has worked on dubbing it has done such a phenomenal job. I'm so excited for all these releases! Season Four now and then Season Five next year and hopefully Strong World then as well!

It's a good time to be an English-speaking One Piece fan.

5 years…wow. I remember I had stopped watching One Piece (I never was able to watch week to week), and just randomly tuned in and heard new voices. My friend was upset, he didn't understand why it happened. I liked the new voices. I still didn't watch week to week. 3 years later, I decide to start over with One Piece, and here I am.

when i saw this on tv five years ago, it was the best day of my life.
