Funi may not get Bleach.

I have a good explanation for saying this.

I went to Wizard World Chicago like I do every year and this time I saw a booth held by Funimation and asked them about One Piece (Hear me out about my Bleach theory it gets better). They said they worked for a year trying to get it. But when Shonen Jump came out, Viz had to take all the properties to Shonen anime and use them thierselves or give them to 4Kids since Viz and 4Kids are family. So Funi conceded both OP and Naruto (the guy I talked to didn't know how to prounounce Naruto) and all other Shonen anime to Viz.

So in theory, once Bleach gets a lot of episodes in Japan. Viz might either dub it themselves or do the unthinkable . . . give it to 4Kids.

In other words, all Shonen anime is screwed.

If you're wondering how DBZ and Yu Yu Hakusho aren't part of this, it's because Funi bought them before Jump came to America.

On a lighter note, Funi is relasing Jay and Silent Bob do Degrassi in a few months.

Viz will most likely get it if they dub it, they do a pretty good job at dubbing.

Well, that sucks. Though with 4Kids losing money (as shown through their quartly reports), Viz probably won't give ALL of the series under the Shonen Jump title to 4Kids and espically not any real gems like Bleach.

That's too bad. I didn't figure they would get it after hearing they had gotten all those other shows, but I didn't even consider the Viz/Jump connection.

Well that sucks but still an theory, however Viz did show the Bleach anime in Jump like 2 or 3 months ago so your theory still could work out. But If Viz does get Bleach I won't care since they'll will treat it good but it would be better if FUNi get it.

I will admit I haven't seen much of Viz's dubbing work so I can't really comment on whether or not it would be a good thing if they did get or not (though judging by everyone else's opinions it shouldn't be anything to worry about). However I do agree it would be a terrible shame if 4Kids got it.

As for the fact all Shonen related anime titles must be given to 4Kids or Viz, I think it's a shame, especally if 4Kids' has a chance to work on it. I personaly feel anyone should have the right to dub the series but I guess there's nothing I can do about it. Again, going by other people's opinions, it sounds like if Viz gets the lion's share of dubbing it shouldn't be to bad.

Though I'm morbidly curious as to how they'd handle "Shinigami." "Soul Reaper" sounds too violent for their standards, so what would they use? Fluffy Bunny Sword Guys or something? The crew'd probably go to the Shadow Realm, too. If nothing else, it'd be a hoot.

4Kids should give something like Legendz a try, if it has an anime. That would be up their alley.

Is it a "them or nobody" thing, or a "if we don't want it, it can go to someone else" thing?

A "them or nobody" contract screws the licensor over; if Viz doesn't want to dub it (too expensive, too difficult, doesn't fit their image, etc.), then they've got a product they can't licence elsewhere.

Anything's better than 4Kids getting it. Even though they did a crappy Gash Bell dub, I wouldn't mind Viz doing it.

Gash Bell has a perfectly fine dub, aside from the music changes.

As for the Shinigami thing, they'd probably go with "soul reapers" since they're the ones who came up with that alternate in the first place.

Doesn't Funi release a large amount of 4Kids shows, though? Maybe since 4Kids is close with Viz, then also close with Funi, it could leave a loophole that could let Funi get some of those shows.

If Bleach is only Viz or 4Kids, definately Viz though.

I'm relieved somewhat that Funi won't be dubbing HxH. Funi may be getting better, but I'm tired of hearing those voices. 4kids won't touch it since it has a lot of violence and mature themes. Couple that with the OVA format and it is practically safe guarded from being bastardized for television audiences in the US.
