My face when the Red Sox are never going to win a god damn game:
This has been the best start to a season ever, and, coincidentally, the best time to ever be a Rangers fan!
We're going undefeated this year baby!
But seriously, if the Rangers can continue to play as well as they have so far for the entire season, I can see them ending up with one of the best win percentages in MLB history.
At the very least, we're able to say the Rangers were the last undefeated team of the season! Thanks to Cincinnati losing today, the Rangers were the only team able to make it to 6-0!
Basically, I'm more excited for this season than I have ever been before when it comes to baseball.
It's also an excellent time to be an Orioles fan. Buck Showalter is either a wizard or he made a deal with the devil; probably both given how bad we usually are (and have been for 13 years!). It'll be a clash of titans when we meet up this weekend, Akumu!

I was pretty surprised when I looked at the rankings.
And Giants suck lol.
Figures we'd start 0-6 and then rock the Yankees.
Hope this keeps up for the whole series.

Kind of sucks the game was postponed tonight…I was so excited for it!
At least I can definitely make an event out of tomorrows double header now.
Ugly first game for the Rangers. Britton is definitely a beast though.
Hopefully the second game will be a little more close.
Alright, got 2 out of 3 from the Evil Empire.
Hoping to get a sweep against the Rays to get to 5-7 and start working to get back on track.
Well, Rangers got the best of my poor O's, but hopefully we can keep holding our own. Britton did a great job though. I really just want to be .500 for once…
Britton is a beast. That will probably be the biggest embarrassment the Rangers have all season. I fear having to go up against him again.
"How do you make Bruce Bochy go pale?"
"Tell one of his San Francisco Giants to 'break a leg'!"
But in all humour, this past month has been a real horror story. Sooner or later, the lack of offense is going to negatively impact the pitching staff, and it'll all cave in. I'm still shocked at how awesome Vogelsong is though, even his worst outing was better than Jonathan Sanchez's.
Anyway folks, your views on Bud Selig's hard-on for another playoff game? In my view, what's going to end up happening is the Houston Astros are going to join NL West, while the Arizona Diamondbacks are going to AL West. It doesn't really impact the NL West in the long run (usually, the D-backs are in last place, as Houston has been as of late in the Central) but I really like the Diamondbacks, NL West is like its own little pitcher's club.
I'm just pissed at the ongoing court battle between the McCourts destroying the team I love so much. Adding to the fact that McCourt barely made payroll and he has to pay off the rest of Manny's contract is fucking ridiculous. That and the Angels are dogshit makes me not really care about baseball right now
I do feel bad seeing the Dodgers torn up like they've been, ideally I'd like to see the Giants and Dodgers duking it out for first place in the NL West, rather than the Giants stumbling into it due to the other NL West teams suffering from various problems.
Frankly, even if the Giants lose, I'd still feel good about it if they played a good game. But…I haven't really seen any good games from them, at least since the last A's game pitched in Pac Bell Park.
Today's game, for example, is more of Lincecum missing Posey and having disagreements with Chris Stuart. He's not doing well with the swapping of catchers and it's really throwing off his routine. Lincecum's not going to admit it until the offseason or until he overcomes his frustrations, but losing Posey, like how he lost Molina, really affect his game-play. It's tough to watch knowing the game is basically lost if the opposing team scores 3 runs, or against Bumgarner any runs at all.
I don't want to watch a game and be reminded of Posey getting knocked out, like I am when I see Lincecum struggling with a different catchers. Likewise, I don't want to see a walky walky Jonathan Sanchez outing and be reminded that Zito exists and very well might drive the Giants to trade Sanchez for an un-productive bat, as many bats become when they join the Giants. For Ryan Vogelsong, it's mostly a fear of when he'll crack and give up a big game. It's no fun.
Last night's game against the Diamondbacks as well...because Brian Wilson caused all that 9th inning drama on Tuesday and Wednesday, he needed to be rested and Bochy risked putting Castilla in for a second inning. A big mistake. The Giants punching out the Diamondbacks twice in a row was pretty impressive given how well they're playing, but I don't see leading the division as a lasting prospect given how the team could very easily get weaker toward the All Star Break.
Something I've been wondering for all you American League East fans...I saw a Red Sox game earlier this week, and the pitcher was throwing balls that didn't top 84 mph. More often, they were in the 67-78 mph range. Why so slow?

You must be talking about Tim Wakefield, who's the king of the slowball like change-ups and the dreaded knuckleball. You don't have to be throwing heaters to strike people out, especially when you are spot on with slow pitches like Wakefield
Both Dodgers and Giants had some tough hitting tonight but, pardon the cliche, it was a bit tortuous to watch. I can understand the heavy atmosphere for the Dodgers, they're a well balanced team and I'm a bit surprised they're having such a tough time winning games. Especially after that 15-0 stomp a few days ago. The Padres of course aren't going to do much until they start crushing the Giants, but I'm genuinely surprised that the Dodgers aren't keeping with the Rockies at least.
No offense to Cubs fans, but the Giants should have won tonight's game. As soon as Sergio Romo took the mound, I knew it was over, because he's a guy who cracks under pressure. We should have had a 2-1 situation with Wilson on the mound, if the Cubs scored then it would have been gg. Emmanuel Burriss is dumb as rocks, I've said for most of the season, it's a dice roll whenever he's at bat. Now it's a dice roll whenever he's on base. I was seriously pissed at how stupid he was.
Sigh this happens every year.
I watch the first month or so of the season, and then I lose interest until after the all star break. Then I start to get into it again.
I think this is made worse because I follow the Rangers. They started off the season so well, now they're a measly 43-38. They have fallen far from being the last undefeated team, and there are a ton of reasons why, none I really want to get into though.
I see them making it to the ALCS, only to lose.
You're in luck Akumu, the All-Star Game is like next week. Or not too long after that. Then you can jump in again!
I think Texas will do well, they're going to get into the ALDS at the very least, though the chance is high they'll face either the Bronx or Boston. But Boston's mortal…one would think that with their crazy offense, they'd be way out in front of the Yankees. They got out of far last, but it's been pretty neck and neck for a while.
As much as I'd love to believe, I don't think the Giants can repeat last year's success without offense. It's great that Zito has apparently found something, and we've got Ryan Vogelsong as a consolation story, but without hitting...clutch hitting at least, we're dead in the water.
My expectation is a Brewers v. Phillies NLCS with the Brewers getting owned by the Phillies pitching, but half a season is half a season. I could be surprised.
But i will be PISSED if Sabean trades away one of our pitchers, though I wouldn't mind Zito going to NY in a swap for Jorge Posada.
The way the Rangers are playing you would be lucky if they get past the Red Sox in the ALDS
Also my Dodgers are going to shit. How in fuck do they owe Andruw Jones and Marquis Grissom money.
This is just a musing, but I've got to share it.
I've been seeing ads all day about the Giants rewarding a baby born closest to 1 August 2011 at some specific time a plague for being the "World Series Baby". The idea is the baby was conceived right when the World Series was won, and would be born exactly 9 months after that victory. It's a hilariously stupid, almost raunchy promotion. Who thought this up?!
I mean, they're basically rewarding a mentality along the lines of, "Congratulations, meat! Your parents were so excited that the Giants won the World Series, they had had sex!"
WHAT A DISTINCTION.
Congratulations to Derek Jeter, who hit a home run for his 3000th hit (Only Wade Boggs has ever done that) at Yankees Stadium today. Truly a great moment for Yankees fans and baseball fans in general.
That 5-5 was pretty crazy too. And people are lamenting he's only batting .270?
Also, ALL-STAR GAME IN LIKE 9 MINUTES.
It's like a preview for the World Series, what with the HF advantage rule.
Wow, watching the Pirates and Braves going 19 innings in an AWESOME game and the home plate umpire completely fucked up an obvious out call at home plate allowing the Braves to get the W, and I wouldn't be surprised the reason he did it was because he probably wanted to go home. Just blows my fucking mind
EDIT:
Seriously, unfucking believable
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Torre's "human element" = "human fudge up".
I agree with him in principle, and frankly I'm against using instant replay in MLB, but ump calls can be a real pain when they're THAT OBVIOUS. I mean even Joyce's blown call wasn't as clearly in err as that one.
The Giants had a blown call in yesterday's 13-inning sudden death, too. Aaron Rowand was caught stealing (?) second and he eventually scored on a run. The game should have been over by the 9th inning if that call had been made properly, but it was a close play, at least.
So, update on trade stuff -
Giants get Carlos Beltran
Phillies get mad and sign Hunter Pence
I'm actually a bit happy for this one since it weakens the Phillies in the upcoming years. Charlie Manuel might have dissed Lincecum, but Lincecum, Cain and Bumgarner are all young guys, and will be resigned for upcoming seasons. With how paranoid the Giants are for the health of their players, I doubt we'll see them get injured. Meanwhile, there's no guarantee that Cliff Lee, Roy Oswalt and Roy Halladay will be able to maintain their pace and stay healthy simply because they're approaching their mid thirties, leaving the Phillies with Hamels and the young arms to hold down the fort. I much prefer the Braves' farm system in this regard, so getting Pence really means "World Series or bust". And if they bust, they'll bust big.
However, at the same time, I'm a bit annoyed that the Phillies seemingly over-reacted to the Giants taking 2/3. They blow up Barry Zito…and are surprised when Lincecum (#1) and Cain (#2) give quality outings against Cole Hamels (#4) and a replacement player? And the Phillies didn't even have Placido Polanco at 3B, their offense wasn't at its most potent when going against the Giants.
The Phillies have a great offense, in spite of what people say. It's not weak at all, and was their main selling point in 2008. That Cole Hamels could give such consistent quality starts is what earned him his two MVP's. The Phillies only weakness is their BULLPEN, which is what they should have been focused on, not their offense. Heath Bell should have been their prize, but I think it's possible he'd go to an AL East club by tomorrow evening, and not the Rangers.
I'm itching to see what happens to Ubaldo.
The Beltran trade won't hurt the Giants quite so badly...I never thought too highly of Zach Wheeler, he struck me as a Brian Wilson type with a high WHIP, but lacking the wicked off speed and curve of Jonathan Sanchez. Surkamp could be the real deal, and might even be ML ready by next year. If only we didn't have a holes at SS, CF and Catcher, we might be able to go somewhere. The aforementioned 13-inning game was pretty disgusting to watch.
Congratulations to the Arizona Diamondbacks for clinching the NL West! You guys have played good ball and I know I'll be cheering for you in the playoffs (and for the Texas Rangers in the AL West). Please don't do a 2010 Reds and get no hit in the first game, I want to see the NL West strike a blow the deep spenders of the East.
Tonight's game was tragic because Cain got saddled with 3 runs and the loss despite a magnificent pitching performance. Not to demean Saunders, but he was pitching against the worst hitting team in the major leagues.
So many story-lines converged on this night -
1. The Giants failing to hit with runners in scoring position.
2. The Giants getting hits/runs they shouldn't (Cabrera HR) but not getting the ones they should.
3. Pablo Sandoval's right shoulder forcing Gibson to play all left-handed batters.
4. The Diamondbacks and Giants playing another 1 run game.
5. The law of averages catching up to Sergio Romo.
6. Goldschmidt energizing the Diamondbacks (as he's done since he came up).
7. Matt Cain getting no run support in a hard-luck loss.
8. The fallen Aubrey Huff getting the last out.
9. The cancer of no offense finally killing the Giants.
It felt like a play-off game and was a "thrill" to watch. Again, congrats D-backs! No hard feelings snakes, go all the way!
What the fuck just happened?
THE BEST DAY EVER!
Yes yes yes, this evening was very HOLY SHIT.
As an Orioles fan, this was one of the greatest nights of baseball I have ever experienced.
Indeed, we certainly haven't had many of those.
Oh that was so damn fun.
The Dude was posting pics on Facebook from Camden Yards during the Orioles/Red Sox game. He was going nuts.
Kind of weird there's more baseball after that grand finale to the regular season, but we did have games, and I saw/listened to most of them.
1. Sorry D-backs, I think you're going to get steam-rolled.
2. Apparently, nature itself wants Detroit to lose in the NLDS.
3. Shields, you suck.
4. Come on Cards, you can pitch better than that.
Great game. Glad Detroit came out on top.
Hopefully the Cards pull it out tomorrow.
Don't really care about D-Backs v Brewers.
Detroit v Texas is definitely going to be a good series. I'm really hoping the Rangers win it convincingly though. I would really love to see them win it all this year.
I'm hoping for a Cardinal win, but for Bud Selig, that would be worse than learning he has Alzheimer's. No disrespect to Detroit, Texas, Arizona, St. Louis or Milwaukee, but a World Series with any of those teams will be guaranteed to have lower ratings than last year's. And that would mean the expanded playoff planned for 2013.
What a game and what a way to win! Way to go Rangers!
watches Rangers v. Tigers
OK, given these circumstances, I predict the World Series will be-
Milwaukee Brewers v. Texas Rangers
Rangers in 4.
I say Cards/Rangers with Rangers in 5
Way to go Rangers!
I got so happy watching them celebrate!
Rangers in 5!
Fuck the Brewers, Nelson Cruz is the real definition of Beast Mode
Fuck the Brewers, Nelson Cruz is the real definition of Beast Mode
And he's the #7 hitter!
Yeah, if Cards win, I'm going with Rangers in 5 too. Pretty cool WS IMV.
HERE WE GO CHUMS!
Can't believe this 4th inning. The Cards owe everything to Kulpa, the first base ump.
I honestly do not believe that they would have scored anything if that out had been called properly.
That fourth inning blown call was painful, but I'm more shocked at how terrible the Texas bullpen and defense have been.
Even C.J. Wilson, as weak as he's been in the post-season, gave an almost quality start yesterday.
But certain bullpen guys - I'M LOOKING AT YOU, ALEXI OGANDO - haven't just been terrible, but a liability.
It's hard for me to believe Texas can score 7 runs now when they don't have faith in their bullpen to stop the bleeding. Sure, I can imagine it possible, but they were playing amazing ball just to catch up.
EDIT: Pujols is 4-4-4. Texas pitching, so bad!!
Pujols is ridiculous. We are watching one of the top 5 best players to ever play the game.
Problem with Texas' bullpen is that the starter and early relievers are giving up so many runs that they can't use their best relievers because they have no lead to protect.
Puuuuuuuuuuuuuujols!
So, I have no idea if I'm going to pin this on the Cardinals burning red and just mangling Texas pitching, or Texas pitching choking. It didn't feel like the cowering in fear we saw in Game 2 last year, where pitchers couldn't throw strikes, or were afraid to throw strikes.
Good relievers, bad relievers, the only guys who didn't pitch were:
Mike Adams
Neftali Feliz (closer)
Colby Lewis (Game 2 starter)
Derek Holland (Game 4 starter)
C.J. Wilson (Game 1 starter)
Texas' offense was awesome. It's not everyday that we see teams coming back from huge deficits, even with the 28th fresh in our minds. But seeing the pitching crumble like that must have been the most demoralizing wreck ever.
Sooo…did anyone see what just happened in the 9th?
...THE FUCKING 10th INNING!
This isn't real life.
Not only was this one of the best baseball games that I have ever seen, it's one of the best games of any sport that I have seen.
I can't even be mad that the Rangers lost.
I'm looking forward to a great game 7 to top off this amazing World Series.
