Anyone remember this show? Ran for 97 episodes a few years back and is coming back with a fifth season in 2012 titled "Code Lyoko Evolution". Apparently all of the non-virtual scenes will be live action with the regular CGI during the virtual parts of episodes.

So anyone else here watch this? This was surprisingly a very good show despite apparently having a bad budget, reusing scenes, and various issues going through voice actors early on and inconsistencies. Was able to get a bit of crap past the radar too for being a TV-Y7 show on Cartoon Network.

Didn't finish the series after William turned bad, but I know the ending. Was a fan of the show. It's on my "need to reread/read/watch/rewatch over summer" list.

When you say live action, do you mean real actors? If so UGH. If not…where will they go from here?

! The big bad is defeated. What now? Some things should end when they do.

I watched it back when Toonami was alive. I simultanously hated it while not being able to stop watching it. I'll watch the new one as that happens to me a lot for some things I go on to love.

And the necks. The art style was a bit weird and it was a bit of a hard show to get in to, with the contrast between weird 2d animation and the CGI scenes. However it was the story that sucked me in. While it had a largely episodic run, it kept me interested with the spread out episodes that revealed more about the Supercomputer and Lyoko. This is where I think the show failed to bring in a major audience, as the fanbase wanted more episodes that continued the overall plot, but the show had them spread throughout the season with filler episodes in between.

The show itself was kind of weird to begin with. The art style is very weird looking, and not really appealing. While I'm not saying Nicktoons are unappealing the design work felt like a combination of 90's Nicktoons and Anime. Visually it was an unappealing show. The 2D parts have the weird proportions with the faces and the 3D parts were suffered greatly due to low budget.

The plot was mildly interesting, the problem was the fact that 90% of the episodes were "filler". Hell you were just kind of thrown into the plot from episode one with very little explanation. I think the first development episode was at the end of Season 1.

With that being said, I think it did get a small cult following, and I watched even though I kind of hated it.

While only one and a half of the Italian, Unofficial books were translated, they show how with the correct writing it can be amazing. Obviously it didn't suffer from budged problems and weird animation, but they were damn entertaining for recapping the show, and featuring earth only scenes with one awesome action moment.

I'm wondering if the new series/season will follow the books. There were a few retcons in the book but it was really starting to get good. I'm also hoping they do go for the older audience. The books had XANA murdering or at least severely injuring someone with the girl he possessed when he got back. They are definitely darker so I'm hoping they go in that direction.

I found the show interesting, but never watched much of it. With it taking a Live Action approach I won't be watching the new series (I'm not calling it a season).

Live Action isn't confirmed yet, but seems likely as they we're talking about wanting to do a live action project since the show ended.

I can see them making the scenes that were CGI (the computer world) into live action. They can take a cue from the Tron movies with that.

Like many shows, half the reason I watched it was for the theme song.

The theme song was so gay, but it was so fun to sing. Kind of reminded me of the classic Disney themes, especially the 'Disney Afternoon' theme.

"Make evil go away!" Yeah, I could sing this song all over again.

I always thought the tame romantic interest between Yumi and Ulrich was cute.

How much would that cost though? For a show that's been off air for a while, little to none merchandise, 3 video games and a couple of DVD releases, I don't think they have the budget to incorporate that kind of stuff in. I'm hoping it's not like the last series though when scenes were reused constantly.

That would be sweet, but no way that'd be in the budget.

The series finale felt pretty definite. I'll definitely tune in to see what they plan to do with it, though it doesn't guarantee that I'll like what I see ._____. It was so not a series I expected to make a comeback, though I'd be lying if I said I wasn't happy to see it XD

I dunno what it is with this show, I was hooked for no reason I could explain. I fell in and out but I think I most enjoyed when they got into the mystery behind the origin of Lyoko (and Aelita's true past). Though I never saw the last few episodes because they got deleted off the DVR before I got to them. I need to look it up online. It's freaky and bizarre looking with those squinty eyes and big foreheads, but it had a lot of depth and development (though slow being drowned out in all that filler) then most cartoons on at the time had. The fandom while it was still big online was also fun while it lasted XD

Here's hoping someone subs the new series, it's unlikely, considering it'll be in French, that it comes over to the US and they dub over the voices. Unless it turns out to be really awesome.

I really tried giving this show a chance… but I couldn't stand it.

So much "filler" and reversed character development.
"Return to the past now" was something I wish I could do after each episode and watch something else just as repetitive but more entertaining. Like porn.

Yeah I remember it. Initially, I couldn't get with the show on account of it's premise, and just weirdass character designs. When I finally did get into the show it was halfway over but it was damn good. I said to myself why didn't I give this thing a chance sooner?! Great show, I miss it everytime CN comes out with a new show that turns out to be trash. Of course, I don't miss Code Lyoko enough to fork over 80 bucks on Amazon but…

                                      @Md-Martin:

…is coming back with a fifth season in 2012 titled "Code Lyoko Evolution". Apparently all of the non-virtual scenes will be live action with the regular CGI during the virtual parts of episodes.

Now that is fascinating. Here is hoping the cast is French. If I see one American in this thing I'm going to be mad as hell.

                                      @Md-Martin:

I noticed that. [It's no wonder it was a great show, it wasn't made by the Cartoon Network.] 😆 As far as getting crap passed the radar, yeah they made it a science. Look at this: http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Radar/CodeLyoko

Same here. I'm not "that old" but there was something about Code Lyoko that made me remember the shows of the late 80s early 90s. Some of the stuff that was one when I was kid. Whether it's the school setting, characters, or something moving about that catching theme there is just something about it.

I watched this show a few times, but I could not get into the whole 3D Lyoko gimmick. Other than making it to the end and learning something new, the fighting and gauntlet styled dungeon crawl got old really fast. I'm also in the the minority when it comes to the style. It sorta resembled newspaper comic strips in some way, so it didn't really bother me.

I've been watching it lately and so far I'm almost done with season one but the site I was watching it on got shone down 😞 Not surprising though, I should've expected it would happen sooner or later. Its pretty good I'd say. The characters are likable, it may have been mostly episodic but they thought of so many interesting things to do with each episode and I didn't have a problem with the art style. All in all it was pretty good. Although I can understand why people would get tired of all the "filler" episodes.

I also don't think "small cult following" is quite right. It was pretty damn popular with kids and teenagers, I mean it ran for 97 episodes. That's a really long time for a kids show.

My Hero Academia is my favorite manga series right now. At least so long as the high of its greatness remains. United States of Smash.

By the second season the show got a lot better with the filler. Yes it was in there and the majority of the season was it, but it would explore certain possibility's with XANA's attacks, you could see he was growing, and the history of Lyoko unraveled in the end of the season.'

Like I said, I think if the show went for the older audience it would have done much better. I believe the explanation for the entire first season being episodic was because the target audience could pick up the show at any episode and not be confused…..which kind of did the opposite considering there is zero character development beyond trivial facts until the season one finale. And we didn't even get the prequel until Season 3.

Loved Lyoko when it was airing. I was a bit disappointed Aelita wasn't actually an AI who became real, but I really appreciated her develoment with Jeremy. They had good chemistry.

Anyone remember this show? Ran for 97 episodes a few years back and is coming back with a fifth season in 2012 titled "Code Lyoko Evolution". Apparently all of the non-virtual scenes will be live action with the regular CGI during the virtual parts of episodes.

                                                    Dammit .

I would say they're doing it cause it's cheaper that way, but sweat-shop animation is no doubt cheaper than filming live-action. They're probably hoping having LA will make the show seem more "edgy" and attract a stronger audience.

We all know how that ends up.

Thing is will this even get picked up by CN? I assume Moonscoop is still producing this and they were the ones who dubbed their own property. CN never even aired the ending of the series, just stuck it on the site for a few months. Has Moonscoop ever done a LA show anyway? I only know they did the Fantastic Four series and CL.
