Star Trek: Enterprise was finally getting good in season three, then it was great in season four before the plug was pulled. So many loose ends there, and really cool stuff I've read about that was planned for even just season five, much less beyond that (refit for the ship, founding of first starbase, the freakin' Romulan Wars, etc).

the plans for the future of that show didn't impress me, mainly because they all involved ripping off plots of The Original Series. THERE is a show that should've lasted longer.

And don't get me started on Titus. One of the few legitimately funny sitcoms there's ever been. And not just funny by sitcom standards. This show got away with a lot of flat-out dark shit for a sitcom, and made it uproarious. The kind of shit most sitcoms would switch to serious mode for so they could do a "very special episode," Titus would do on a regular basis and never lose its sense of humor about everything. Of course, that would lead to its downfall, but as Christopher Titus himself has stated; it's better to be cancelled because you won't give in to the network execs than go on too long and be cancelled because you're not funny anymore.

I can't believe how many people liked Clerks the animated series. I love the first film and I think the second is watchable but I always hated the animated spin off. w/e

Oh dear god that brings back odd but fond memories. The theme tune was rather cool as well as the random cast that dotted in and out .

You got an animated series and six movies. How was that not enough added to 70 odd episodes? Jesus, most cancelled series mentioned in here are lucky if they get a comic book follow up let alone a single movie but ST had SIX AND A HALF!

TOS did everything it needed to do. It made a huge impact for it's time and quit while it was ahead. It didn't have an overarching story, leave any plot threads or end on a cliffhanger. It all rounded out quite well.

If it kept going it would probably have considerably dropped in quality as these things often do and that would have been what it was remembered for. For that, I'm glad it finished when it did.

Also more stuff shouldn't have been cancelled:
Red Dwarf.

I know it got renewed for a special a while back and theres more coming but still... more than 10 years without anything was too much. Especially considering that the ratings behind the final series' episodes were among the best it ever had. Say what you will about seasons VII and VIII but I honestly thought they were pretty damn good. Maybe not quite as good as the older stuff but still better than the average cack that you get.

Doctor Who in 1989 and 1996

It had some rough years in the mid to late eighties but it certainly wasn't as bad as people can make it out. The final series in 1989 is absolutely brilliant and among the highest quality of the entire lot. With the right money behind it, Doctor Who could have become a heavy hitter on the worldwide circuit throughout the nineties. Also the American pilot Movie in 1996 should have definitely been made into a series. Same kind of production as Buffy The Vampire Slayer and The X-Files for Doctor Who? Count me the fuck in. Still... at least it's back now.

It wasn't technically canceled, but Dave Chapelle sort of had a breakdown, so they had to stop the show. Comedy Central decided to churn out Mind of Mencia to fill the gap.

Duckman. While I am more surprised that it lasted so long more than it was canceled (it was on cable–no hope of getting past season three), I found the show to be very funny and smartly written. Some of the plots were very surprisingly detailed, and often didn't fall into typical sitcom trappings.

Mighty Mouse - The New Adventures. Definitely a show that should have at least lasted three seasons. While starting off rocky with some lame cartoons featuring an orphan named Scrappy, the ones that were good were GOOD, and was definitely a springboard for future "subversive" cartoons. It's pretty telling when the last cartoon features a sight gag of a mother spanking her daughter replaced with her holding a metal coathanger. Budget obviously was a problem, with possibly a record for "most clip episodes."

As for live-action, there was the 2005 series, Invasion. It dealt with a premise similar to Invasion of the Body Snatchers that took place in Florida. It was a promising series that only lasted one episode. Definitely should have lasted longer.

Regarding Invader Zim, as far as I could gather way back in the day when I tried following it on Nickelodeon, the show often went over budget and Vasquez's more independent sensibilities were heavily at odds with the Nickelodeon animation crew and the studio heads. It was not a stable collaboration, from what I could gather. What I found very confusing back in 2002 was that evidently the "x-mas" special was mandated by Nickelodeon to be pretty much made from scratch, while the work-in-progress Season 2 was to be aborted

Nope, that was just the season 2 finale. There were suppose to be a third season but it never got off the ground for some reason. A pity too cause they had models of characters that were suppose to appear. But hey blame Nick for that mess.

The Life and Times of Juniper Lee: Very under-rated toon, love Laura Jill Miller as June and the jokes were quite funny. Just had the misfortune of coming out same time American Dragon did. And no it wasn't a ripoff, the two animators went into production a year within each other. It was just bad timing really. CN also screwed this show over on the advertising.

Class of 3000: I was skeptical of this at first. But the show really handled itself well, the music cues were addicting and the characters were very likeable (well Lil D did grate on my nerves a bit). But something about the production cost and somebody threatening to sue over a similar idea got it canned. Two seasons, tsk tsk

Teen Titans: Granted yes it had a good five year run. But I wanted a Starfire-centered season dammit. Seriously why did Beast Boy get two? And don't tell me season 2 was centered around Terra, she was hardly in the show at all (if anything they should've used her more till her betrayal WTF?). Just..ugh.

Spectacular Spider-Man was a gem which was seriously cut short before its time. Nostalgia be damned, it blew the early-90s Spidey cartoon, which I grew up on, out of the water. I can only hope that the coming-whenever Ultimate Spider-Man show is even HALF as good.

Also helped that SS didn't have the censors on their asses.

And oh yeah how can I forget The Critic. Love that show (save for the webisodes)

Lots of little things but the biggest is the family issue. In danny phantom he gets his powers because his parents are ghost hunters and thus he struggles with the decision to tell them about his powers or not because they can either really embrace that and help him, or kill him.

In el tigre his powers are like passed down or something and his family is all hero's and villians so he's constantly deciding which side of the family he should belong to and the fact that if he accepts one, he makes the other his enemy basically.

Admittedly though most of the other similarities are the generic ones any teenage superhero show would have.

I'm shocked that I forgot to mention Veronica Mars in my original post. The first two seasons are absolutely stellar. The third season is weaker than the first two, which is probably why it was canceled, but it ended on an UNFORGIVABLE cliffhanger. So yeah, that's in my top three: Crime Story, Firefly, Veronica Mars.

Oh yeah I remember that. Saw the premiere and..that was it. Was confused as heck why they pulled it after hyping it so much (though I heard it played in other countries). Something about they didn't want the character exaggerated or the gun violence, I don't know. A shame really, the preview looked really nice.
