Spring 2011 Anime Schedule

Well, I dunno. Deadman, Kaiji, Gintama, and C, and everything else is sort of a crapshoot as far as I'm concerned. Like, this season I was surprised, because there were actually a good number of bitchin' shows and I'm watching more at once than I have in years (Madoka, Level E, Hourou Musuko, Kore wa Zombie, Star Driver and Rage ni Todoke). But I wasn't expecting that going in. But I'm really hesitant about the shounen adaptations. In generally, I'm extremely hard on inconsistently good shounen shows. Rather than viewing filler as a necessary evil, I get bored and go somewhere else.

I'll check out Tigerbunny because lolSunrise, but everything else must first prove itself to me, as I'm much harsher on what I watch than what I read.

Well I suppose we can chock it up to different taste then. I am more partial to the shonen after all (but that doesn't mean I can't appreciate a good slice-of-life when I see it). Still though the Madhouse animation + ZAWA ZAWA directing is worth the watch for Kaiji at least for me if I wasn't already crazy for Fukumoto.

I hate it when writers INCESSANTLY drag out romance relationships till much later like the end of the series. So unsatisfying. It's super frustrating and it denies us from seeing the new relationship at work. Inuyasha is the worst, worst, worst offender in this.

I'm enjoying season 2. If you're not then that's you. However, it doesn't make me rage at all. It's a good show. If you want to watch a show where the romance happens really fast watch NANA or school days.

Hey, I'm not saying the romance relationships need to be moved super fast. Just that they shouldn't be pointlessly dragged out for no other reason than to leave it for the end. Case in point, Love Hina. The two main leads hooked up by the last third of the series but at least there was progress in their relationship till then. It wasn't circular but moved with a direction. And then when they DID hook up, you even saw their relationship mature. Not like Inuyasha where the main leads never even fucking kissed in the 800 chapters of mucky love quadrangle shit.

I didn't say that they we're good examples however, the people who are complaining do not like the pace of the Kimi ni Todoke. So I suggested series which have a faster relationship pace.

Good entry josei and shojo respectively with strong romance themes are Honey& Clover and Lovely Complex.

Both handle it very well in different ways

I recommend them instead of my favorite because you will actually be able to find these

There are so few series that are straight up good for the romance and that alone and H&C makes up for its flaw by being awesome in general and everyone being well characterized

I recommend it more for knowing it is easily available to any reader also. I am on my phone and can't check on a series availability easily

I didn't realize you didn't see KnT check it out it's good. Yeah fushigi yuugi is a romance. There's like a love triangle that exist through out the series and fuels the characters at least one of them. Ummm I also like Nodame Contabele but I've found a lot of the romance shows to be below Knt. That includes Fruits basket chobits and w/e else people can name. But that's just my opinion.

My sister read Kimi ni Todoke on my recommendation (I haven't seen it myself) and LOVES it, and she's a compulsive shoujou consumer without strong taste, with like 500+ titles to her name. So yeah, it really stands out as a romance, so I'd have to run with the rec. too.

H+C is really a love or hate anime. I've heard people laud it and decry it, and both camps have people who have opinions I respect, so the only solution would be for me to see it myself. I'm currently held up with a lot of stuff on my plate though…Sharin no Kuni, Yuukyuu no Shounenshoujou, Tegami Bachi and 999 are all eating my time up. Especially the latter, since I'm still new to the DS.

Romantic comedy, it's pretty far below the serious drama stories we're describing. About the same level as Negima!, but below Love Hina.

TWGOK is really a parody of visual novels, ren'ai and eroge, centred around Keima's transition from a close-minded, 2D idealist to a fully functional, normal guy. Shipping is fun but romance isn't the real focus.

Well, watched the first episode of Battle Girls - Time Paradox, but it gives me a uncomfortable feeling. The story's fine, but the VA of the lead red-head is also the VA of Revy from Black Lagoon, so whenever she speaks I imagine Revy…..in that outfit.......and it just downright gives me an weird image. It's unnatural to image Revy wearing something like that.

I try not to because I'm afraid she'll murder me for thinking about it. :ninja:

The first episode of Tiger and Bunny was ridiculously amusing, so good that it felt too short…definitely the best surprise so far. Let's see if they can keep this up.

Tiger and Bunny was great. I had no idea what I was getting into when I decided to watch it, but I really enjoyed it. Premise is a really good idea and I really do feel for the main character

Stuff I've watched so far:

Stein's;Gate
Well, like any good mind screw sci-fi story, the first episode began by throwing you right into the thick of things without much explanation, leaving the viewer to largely fend for himself. It has the potential to be rather intriguing, or turn out to be merely incomprehensible. Cast so far could be ironed out a bit, but Kyoma (or should I call him Rintaro?) unashamed looniness is moderately fun to watch. We'll see where this goes. I don't like how incredibly desaturated and drab the palette is, though, since the promotional poster was much more colorful (for instance, one character on the poster had cherry red hair - think Fairy Tail's Erza - yet in the actual show it looks closer to brown).

Hanasaku Iroha
Sort of expected a slice-of-life/light comedy, and what I got was what appears to be a slice-of-life/light comedy with some drama undertones which will certainly be addressed as things go on. It's one of those shows that will live and die by the character dynamics, so we'll see how things progress as we learn more about the cast. The visuals are absolutely beautiful, so that's a reason to keep watching regardless for how the show ultimately turns out.

Now all that's left to see is how C's premiere is, and I've heard that Sket Dance's first episode turned out all right.

That reminds -Crossword, did you ever see C;H? I'm curious because thus far you're the only person on AP whose expressed a strong interest in S;G, if you're receptive to that, I've got an ace in my pocket that might blow you away…

The episode was 23 minutes, but I felt like I spent an hour on S;G's 1st ep. No, I didn't even stop and do something else in the mean-time, it was legitimately dragging.

I understand I'm coming in with extreme prejudice (and that's for the best, from what I've found) but this is still pretty incomprehensible. One of the great things about the original KID novels was one could slowly work out the story. 5pb really fudged that up with C;H, but the anime's really scattered so it's kind of hard to be "surprised" if I don't follow what's going on. I like Okarin's personality but it's hard to tell if he's a genius or a moron. Quiet/weak girl and fat hacker are kind of ordinary.

Also, I've been drinking a DP every day this week. I'm intellectual!

Rogues' Gallery

The First Episode of 30-sai no Hoken Taiiku was surprisingly enjoyable. A nice, entertaining comedy filled with Adult Humor and Childish Gags. It has a Arakawa Under The Bridge & Level E Mix to it, and it works well. At any rate, it looks promising.

Chaos;Head is a big part of the reason i'm cautious towards Steins. It was so terrible and yet i can't force me to drop such short series, so i tortured myself till the very laughable end.

Saggy grandma titties, a giant demon boner, and an OP by Masaaki Endoh. That's basically how I remembered the first episode. If you're ignorant like me, then you probably don't know that this is a remake of the original anime that was based off the manga created by Go Nagai. It's fairly entertaining and the characters are fun, and the overall production quality is good. At the very least, I'd say it's worth checking out.
