The thing that makes TKS different from other Oscar bait movies is that it wasn't boring and instead was entertaining all the way through. It had everything you'd expect from a good movie and it did it well.
Before I watched TKS I expected a boring period drama too. Brittain does them all the time and they are always incredibly dull with good acting performances, but nothing else of value. But this was different. You were really immersed in the story from the getgo because of not only the great acting performances, but also the writing and directing.
Sure, I'd love to see Inception and TS3 win. It would send a message to Hollywood that blockbusters can actually be intelligently written and that animation can also be enjoyed by adults. But I didn't roll my eyes at the most boring movie of all winning, like I did previous years either. Because The King's Speech was a fantastic movie.
