@Wagomu:
Chiming in as the self-proclaimed music guy, a soundtrack sticking in your mind does have value in this case. Inception's soundtrack wasn't anything catchy, either, or meant to work outside of the context. It was all atmosphere. The fact that it does stick in people's mind, though, is a symbol of its strength. Music that has truly moved you will leave an impression, regardless of the style. As a person who listens to his fair share of drone, noise and ambient music, I can say that the better albums definitely leave a mark in my mind.
I appreciate what you're saying because it's all correct and I think you're a music pal with enough interest in sound to rival my own, so normally I'd welcome a big discussion like this, but I know all this and it was all almost verbatim things I was going to say to him initially.
As I implied earlier, I was just making a narrow inquiry into Nobodyman's thought process to just confirm if I read his statement the way he meant. We were both seeing it the same way as it turned out a post later, I just sort of instinctively assumed otherwise. Of course assumptions are things I try to avoid, so my apologies.
So. I dunno. Sorry! I'm sure this would be a really cool discussion if we weren't all looking at this the same way. I suppose I can blame the vague way I had worded things.
My apologies also if this sounds course and bluntly dismissive, I'm not really in the best of moods.
