Stuff related to OP that made you realy embarassed once you got older/more mature/learned how to use google.

For example , I had the oportunity to start reading OP about a year or two before I started, but because I was an idiot I thought that 18 page chapters on MSN were too short and thusly they must be leaving things out.

Needless to say they did but not on that one particular incident.

Also when the German voice actor for Luffy was talking in an interview about how they have about "half of all the episodes done", I honest to god thought that the series was already finished.

That was of course around 2003, when I didn't know you could find stuff like that on the internet.

Anyone else have something ?

This doesn't really make me embarrassed persay but when I was younger and stupider I had decided to watch One Piece for the first time on 4kids and heard one of background fodder say "That guy knocked out Sanji!"

Immediately I assumed that he must be one of the strong and badass types I've heard about in anime like this and thought in my head: "Sanji's a cool name. So, he must be a strong person."

That's how anime works right?

Either way, was a bit confused when I saw the lollipop too… it looked incredibly fake and foamed in... like some kind of cheap edit... and I was right.

I tried OP for my first time two years before I actually started for real, at first I found Luffy stupid and everything horrible, the drawings, action, jokes, etc. I should mention that was the anime.
Two years later I tried OP again and loved it, became a huge fan of Luffy at "first" sight, laughed my ass off during the entiring show and that's it, pretty much. XD
Nowadays Oda's drawings are my favorite, the manga is my favorite, the characters too, etc.

When I saw the cover of volume 12 (Straw Hats with gigantic treasure) and the title "And the legend began", I seriously thought this would be the last volume as the cover obviously showed that they've found One Piece.

But the most embarrassing one is actually related to using Google. I did a search on "Vivi" as I was a huge 12 years old fanboy of her at that time. I found of few pictures of Nefertari Vivi from One Piece and lots of pictures of Vivi from Final Fantasy. I almost stopped reading One Piece because I thought my beloved Vivi would turn into that freaky thing later on.

Well I'm not german. I only speak it. Had satalite TV back then and I only watched the animes. I couldn't be arsed to watch the other stuff ( like the VAs talking and all, interviews, so no wonder I didn't know what anime was xD )

The only thing that comes to mind is that one certain ring I have (that I'm still wearing all the time because I'm so used to the feeling). It's a plain silver ring with "Monkey D. Luffy" engraved on the inside. … yeah.

Before I got into one piece, I saw one of the colorspreads (the one where Robin is exposing the guys' legs lol) and I thought Franky looked stupid and that he would be boring and I wouldn't like him. Now he's one of my favorite characters xD

Based on One Piece: Grand Adventure and the leaving out of Little Garden by 4Kids, I once believed that Little Garden and Skypiea were one and the same and thought that there was a MASSIVE arc that they cut out. I realized it before I had finished the game, though.

When most of the online One Piece manga was hard to find I only could find translation texts, and I saw one that went only up to vol. 20 or so (since the manga must have just reached Jaya then). And I thought alabasta was the final arc from a cursory glance.

The first OP episode I watched was in Greek and I was about… 12? 13? And I had gotten so excited and thought it was awesome and stuff. 6 years later, I rediscover OP. And see that it was way more awesome than I remembered. So I go and search for the Greek episodes I watched to see again how 'good' it was. :)

That image of Luffy was actually my first look at the series too. It didn't inspire irrational hate but it did weird me out a bit.

For a brief time I thought that Aokiji and some random Marine from Loguetown that resembled him were one in the same (side effect of watching Kokoro no Chizu while still only on early East Blue). And also, that Water 7 was some kind of massive, steampunk fortress and that Kalifa was Iceberg (due to poor captioning on an image from Wikipedia).

there are 2 ocassions where i met potential one piece fans in an online game.
Was playing metal gear online yesterday a character namen Monkey D Dragon came in the room. So i greet him and say one piece fan? i get no response. he completly ignored me.

and a few days ago i met Monkey D Luffy. so i greet and say watched latest episode of one piece? he says no I only like enies lobby. so i say what about the other arcs? he responds enies lobby is the best. and then it hit me i was talking to a spanish 12 year old.

First when I saw One Piece (an AMV I guess, I can't remember) I thought it was pretty good, and looked into it. When I found out it was really popular, I thought I wouldn't like it anyway, so I stopped searching.

Later I dreamt about Aokiji. Don't ask me how, but I did (maybe the amv or I don't know), and that's when I started to like One Piece. It was a really pleasant dream by the way: my brother invited his friends to our flat (I hate when we have unwanted guests) and one of them was Kuzan (I can imagine my brother chilling with him:ninja:). I couldn't find one calm spot so I decided to go to my room. And there was Aokiji. He sat on the floor near the wardrobe. "Don't tell me they're gonna come in here!" he said. "No, it's just me" I answered. "You hate it too? Too many people..." "Yes, my stupid brother..." "Then why don't you join me? Want to hear something great?" "Yeah, why not." So I sat down next to him and we listened to some great music. Then, when the party was over (or I don't know), I was so sad that he had to go. He said he would come back for me.

Now that I think about, this dream is kind of strange. Well, it made me love One Piece...

Actually I am not sure about that. 0.o I tried to search to find where they translated it from but couldn't find it. I am sure it was from a different dub tho because they had a lot of foreign names in it like Sunny for Sanji and… BlackJack for Zoro <<; Gus for Usopp XD Good Lord the Greek dub was terrible no matter where they translated it from!

When I saw a picture of Luffy for the first time I thought he was some kind of puppet who would speak in the third person all the time.

I also thought the entire series would consist of one shot comedy chapters, because no way such a funky artstyle would have an actual storyline!

As far as I remember reading up on it, it was in the greek version.

And those names are english, and as they definitely didn't come from the english dub, chances are the greek dubbing company simply changed them like the Italian dubing company had Luffy refered to as "Rubber" in english in the anime.

The story made much more sense after that XD

Oh when Franky showed up in the serie I really hated him and my sister was like: what if he joins the crew? and anoyed has i was with that thought answerd: they dont need some weirdo walking around in a spedo joining the crew!!! ><
but somehow Franky turned into one of my favorit characters ^^

I thought the Grand Line was a body of land shaped like a line xD I thought there were zombies on the whole this, because when someone was talking about it in the early episodes of the anime it showed pirates who were slouched and looked kind of dead xD That'S also partly why i thought the Grand Line was land. I also thought the Grand Line would only be shown and the end of the show in the last arc.

But the most embarrasing was me think it was stupid when I looked at volume 1 in late 2002. I thought Nami looked weird, but it was mostly because I couldn't speak any German and I was just looking at the pictures without understanding anything. Then I thought "Pfft.. DBZ is better". I never read mangas before that. Luckily I loved it right away when it started airing on RTL 2.

the franky family was the main villain of the water 7 arc with paulie as the boss.
From Kokoro no chizu I concluded that Aokiji was Usopp’s relative and there was a tribe of them which led to an Usopp/Luffy fight on leaving the crew.

From the picture of the strawhats on EL’s tower I assumed Robin had left the crew forever and this was some place in the new world.I thought Hancock was bonney. Then, that guard Ivan-chan transformed into a woman. I thought that Hancock and Luffy really had something going..

When I first started to watch One Piece, I had never seen subbed anime, only the dubbed kind, so I was kind of in love with Sanji's 4Kids voice actor.

And if that's not embarrassing, I don't know what is.

When I was about 13, I played a One Piece game on a demo console at Wal-Mart. The game was fun and everything, and I thought the characters were neat. However, despite that, I didn't look it up or anything until about 7 years later.

When it came out in my country, I thought the 4KIDS dub was the greatest thing and didn't even bother to watch the Funimation dub.
Then I grew a brain and read the manga. Oh how stupid I was watching the 4KIDS dub…

I started reading One Piece when I was already about halfway through Naruto, and told myself 'This One Piece fad will be short lived. Naruto is way better.'
