I'm about 1/4 through the game. Will give my thoughts on it eventually.

You're acting as if Bioshock 2 was hard to Plat. IIRC even that didn't take very long to do.
Wasting 13 hours in multiplayer….hmmmm....
-
to be honest all I remember from it was watching Futurama on DVD while doing so.

Can someone help me out? How are you suppose to know whether to pick lie, truth, or doubt? I am not very smart and I just don't get it. It can get really frustrating.

If you have proof that they are actually lying, you pick lie. You can doubt them if you believe they aren't telling the truth. This is done by paying attention to their sentences and facial expressions. Many times, if they're lying, their sentences won't be as immediate or clear as if they are telling the truth. The exception is if the person you're questioning is trying to recall specific info, they may just simply not be replying as fast simply because they are trying to remember what happened. Facial expressions, the main one is seeing if their eyes are wavering. You can also pay attention to other movements such as mouth moving and other give aways. If you're unsure of choosing doubt or lie, you can always choose lie and simply take it back to choose doubt if you just want to hear what Cole is going to accuse the person of.

I gave up playing the game normally, because I don't wanna play through every case a sceond time to 5-star them. I have 5 intuition points, so all I do is exploit the automatic save function (kicks in after walking several feet from the outside of a location). I go through the interview/interrogation guessing/using points and after the last of the questions I hit Quit, hit resume at the main menu, and boom, like I've never done the interview but know what to choose.
I only started doing this on the last 3 cases.
Also, the "Ask the community" intuition option has become all but useless now. Everytime I choose it anymore either two options are very close in percentage or the wrong answer has the highest percentage. I suspect this will get better as more people play and sync with Rockstar Social… but at the same time I can see people completely exploiting it to troll new players by repeatedly choosing the wrong answer.
-
Finally got 5* on every case. It's a lot easier once you been through it once before.
Only have to find the last 6 or 7 cars and tail Candy without using cover (I actually did this but the trophy never popped) for that plat.
Finally got the Plat. Wasn't so bad. Pretty much all of it was luck based.
I dunno whether to wait till the PSN Store goes back up and play through the DLC or just sell it now and keep the DLC for when it's cheap.

I just beat this game. Some of my thoughts on it:
-As much as I wanted to run around shooting random people a la GTA, the fact that you can't just pull your gun out when ever you want makes the shoot-outs very satisfying.
-Interrogation can be very satisfying if you get the questions correct, or very frustrating if you get them wrong. I feel like there could definitely be some improvements to this aspect of gameplay if there is a sequel.
-Searching for clues became tedious and repetitive towards the end. I think it could have been cooler if there was more of a variety of investigative methods, such as dusting for fingerprints and whatnot.
-More freedom would have been nice, but then again, the way the game was presented really stream-lined the story.
-The motion capture acting and graphics in general looked great.
-I thought the story was just "okay". Nothing special IMO. If you are a fan of film noire though, you will probably love this. The characters are pretty good. The cases, even though a lot of them are connected to the main plot, break up the story too much IMO. Searching for clues and interrogated and driving to crime scenes take too long and the story is kind of told in between that stuff.
-The music was bad IMO. Well, not bad, but let's just say I never want to hear a jazz trumpet again.
Overall, this game was great and I'm glad I played it. It was so much different than what I am used to. Here's hoping for a sequel. I wouldn't mind a game like this set in modern times.

Loving LA Noire. Like Grand Theft Auto except not like it at all!
I've just completed the Boxing Racket case on the Vice Squad.
-
Beat it. I'm not in the mood to give a whole in-depth review of the game so I'm just gonna say I didn't think it was a great game. I personally give it a 3/5. But I disliked it enough that I don't care to hold on to it even tho I told myself I was done trading games in. Gonna attempt to platinum it (7 cars to go, 5 cases to 5-star, and of course landmarks and film reels) then get rid of it.
-
Why platinum it if you don't like it? That's like forcing yourself to watch the deleted scenes and the commentary to a movie you didn't like.
-
Hell, I loved the game, but even I don't care to platinum it.

Because it makes you feel like it was worth paying the money for? Considering how easy this Plat is aside from the cars it's only a couple of extra hours of time. At least then it looks like you finished the game fully.
-
I've got to say that I'm absolutely loving the game so far. I just completed
! A Marriage Made in Heaven, the second traffic case.
I'm surprised by the negative reviews this game has got, a swedish newspaper gave it a 1/5 even. Maybe it's not Rockstar's best, but it's close.

Honestly, it's really a love or hate game. I haven't looked for it, but I'm sure I could find people that hate this game expecting Grand Theft Auto or something.

I didn't say I "didn't like it". I said I didn't think it was a great game and that I disliked it enough to not wanna hold on to it. Besides, platinum is only a couple more hours of work, so why not? Also I'm compelled to rebuy games which I haven't platinumed.

Just found an old trailer while looking for old stuff on the game upon hearing it was originally announced (as a PS3 exclusive no less) back in 2006 and found a CGI trailer from 2007. Wow, they've really come a long way. Pretty funny that the in-game stuff is leaps and bounds ahead of something pre-rendered. Amazing what 3 years of development can hatch.
-
oh lookie. Yahtzee did a review. I'm gonna drop a link cus it's pretty damn funny (And kinda accurate about some of the stuff for once.)
Although I personally thought there were some spoilers so yeah

One of the most common complaints I've been seeing is the fact that the game has no multiplayer or co-op functionality so yea GTA4 and Red Dead Redemption are to blame for that.
-
There needs to be more single player games and fewer games with multiplayer tacked-on.

I'll admit that I've always taken a neutral stance in this debate but after seeing all the butthurt over LA Noire not having mp in it makes me wanna take the above stance. Having multiplayer in a game can be a great way to extend a game's replay value especially if it's designed well and can work within the context of the game itself but nowadays there's way too many crappy multiplayer components in some games and just as bad way too many gamers who are of the mindset that every game has to have multiplayer in it or else it gets sent packing to Gamestop or ebay before or after they're finished with it.
-
Really? That's what most people are bitching about? Guess I'm blind to that criticism due to being pretty much strictly a single-player kinda guy. I just felt the game was flat.
Platinum update: Just gotta 5-star a few cases and collect all the film reels and I'm gold… or rather, platinum. I seemed to have been smart collecting cars as I went through the game, as that seemed to be the hardest part.
-

That's a good thing. Red Dead Redemption's multiplayer was just abysmal. I enjoyed the single player but multiplayer was just a pointless grind after the first hour or so.
-

I didn't start doing that until midway through the game. I only have 75/95 cars and I have no idea what I am missing. I have the guide coming to me in a few days, though. That should help. Plus I redeemed my DLC and that will keep me occupied.

Go to extras: showroom. It shows you numbers of which ones you are missing. Buu said social club tells you names of the ones you are missing too.
Then go onto a PS3/360 Vehicle guide on a forum and look there. I found using one guide isn't very helpful since they only tell you where THEY found it. And a lot of them are kinda random. A forum usually gives you 3 or 4 places to look.
-
I'd probably be fine with just a picture. some of the cars I got towards the end (from taking them from citizens) I thought I had already gotten but I didn't.
I'm definitely going to try out the DLC today.
-
! I'm probably at the last case now, in the stats section it says I've done 20/21 cases.
I've got to say that Vice was the best section of the game. Homocide was fun enough, but after a while it all seemes pointless, and the final confrontation was pretty lacking. Arson has been alright as well, fun with all the intrigue, looking forward to how it all wraps up.
! As for companions I've got to say that Rusty, or should I say Finbarr, was my favourite. Sure, he had a pretty lousy view on women and african americans, but who didn't back then. He grew on me really fast, and I was pretty sad when he didn't get promoted with me. >.< -
I like Biggs the best. I was surprised to see he was Cole's partner in that trailer from 2007.

I like Biggs as well, but as I said, I'm not done with Arson yet, I don't know what'll happen to him. O.o
-
I like Biggs the most. Although I felt that his story was left unfinished.

Pretty much this for me. I liked Biggs, but it feels I really didn't get to know him enough to really call him my favorite.
-
I like Bekowsky, simply cause he was the only partner who was never a dick to you. Biggs was just only a dick for a little bit.
-

I guess there's Dunn as well, but yeah… Bekowsky was alright too, but I never really connected with him. Rusty and Biggs both had proper character arcs to them, even though they were both quite similar.
-
My feelings:
! Bekowsky- He was a decent guy, kind of a pushover and sort of a chump. But him and Biggs seemed to be the only partners that took their job seriously. He was nice though, got along with him well. He was more of Cole's sidekick if anything.. but that's ok. I liked it when he told off Guy Mcaffe's goons. It came from no where, but made sense. Bekowsky was sort of a nobody looking to prove himself, get noticed. I enjoyed it when he made homicide. Looking to see how he is during the consul's car case.
Rusty- Characters like this make me wonder how the LAPD got anything done before Cole joined. He did have some good points, but for the most part, he was wrong with almost all his predictions the entirety of the homicide desk. He was rough around the edges and Cole eventually grew on him. I'm glad at the end of the desk he was just as disappointed as Cole was about the bittersweet outcome.
Earle- Even though I thought he deserved much more retribution in the end. I can't really fault Earle too much. He was corrupt, but that's how it goes. He didn't really make much of an attempt to justify his actions. For being such a snake, he was direct and honest. Him speaking at Cole's funeral was Rockstar's idea of a sick joke. But that's Earle.
Biggs- I liked Biggs the most. It's really unfortunate that he was the most underdeveloped partner, character-wise. The basket case of the force teamed up with the fallen star was a really interesting dynamic. At the start of the arson desk, I really needed a friend… and even though he had a rough exterior, Biggs was a good guy. He stood up for Cole when it was raining shit on him. He also helped him on his final quest, even with his job at stake.... he trusted Cole.
! And is it just me? I really felt the adultery side plot was severely underdeveloped. In fact... the game almost didn't need it at all. Cole still could have been demoted for any number of reasons. His wife was almost non existent, I felt nothing for her. Now on the other hand, I did like the directness of it and how it lended itself to Cole's character. He had no excuse.... it was what it was... and he made no attempts to justify it and that's what I like about Cole. He's an honest guy. He's made plenty of mistakes, but doesn't try to hide anything. I think it's obvious he became a cop to redeem himself for what happened during the war. Just a normal guy trying to do the right thing.
! I also wish we got to spend more time with Jack Kelso -

! I also wish we got to spend more time with Jack Kelso! I kind of feel like each partner also mirrored their position in the force.
! Bekowsky was still young and in traffic. He really hasn't had to deal with any types of corruption, and other types of crap at this level which probably has a big reason as to why he's still friendly.
! Rusty's an old cop working in homicide. Chances are after having to deal with homicide cases all the time, it's basically gotten him to the point that he just doesn't get nearly as enthusiastic for a case as he used to. He'll still do his job, but he doesn't really care to do anything he doesn't have to. As far as the homicides in the game went, he made sense early on as far as who the usual suspects would be until their started to be a similar pattern in the homicides
! Earle's in Vice which is the easiest position to go corrupt in. I didn't like Earle, but I can see why he became like how he is. He most likely tried to do a good job at the beginning, but probably got tired of having to deal with constant drugs, idiots, and the entire underground. Once they started offering him money, he probably figured that it wouldn't matter too much since people would still do drugs no matter what, so it seemed harmless at first. This probably started the line in which he went down to become more corrupt.
! Biggs is an Arson cop who was traumatized by his experience with flamethrowers in the war he fought. I wouldn't doubt if it wasn't his own choice to be purely an Arson cop. He has a cold demeanor probably due to seeing so many people die in flames, and houses being in ruin, but he still wants to help out and is still a good guy despite how he comes off as. -
Got my Platinum, time to sell this bad boy. Alas, the only offer I've got was $30. Wanted to sell it for $40, especially cause I gotta pay shipping but… hey, it's better than what GameStop will give.

wow. $30 feels like nothing for it (considering in the UK you can sell it for £30 at least) but I guess that's the way things are. Are games still $60 new there too?
-
Yes it is, but due to a bonus trade-in special GameStop started yesterday I'm actually getting $44.80 for it now. It's store credit instead of cash, but that'll do. As long as I preorder I'll get a sealed copy from them.
